SA metro racing this Saturday heads to Murray Bridge for a nine race program. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (13:06) Irongate Plate 1000m
The Maher/Eustace camp rarely get it wrong when they bring a juvenile to SA so I’m going with 6 Saasmit (Bet Now: $3.10). Had a jumpout last Tuesday at Caulfield when on speed and edging clear late to win but what I liked was past the line where she really put a gap on them. She’ll run a strong 1000m and stable gets Jess Eaton to steer.
3 Pad Thai (Bet Now: $2.35) is a Team McEvoy trained colt that is on debut. He’s had a couple of jumpouts in Victoria to get ready for start one, the latest seeing him win at Flemington in solid time relative to the morning. Should hold up from the inside gate and the stable have a great record here.
5 Lamoree (Bet Now: $3.10) looks third pick in what does look a three horse race. This Team Jolly filly jumped out at Morphettville last Tuesday and was very impressive in leading throughout. Has the early toe to come across from the wide gate and if she can get to the rail, she’ll take some running down.
Race 2. (13:41) Riverscape Food & Wine (rs1mw) 1200m
2 Outlaws Revenge (Bet Now: $3.00) looks a decent prospect for Ryan Balfour and I think he can make it two on the bounce here. Bumped into a handy one in Zoushine on debut, but was good in defeat. He then went to Gawler when heavily backed and he bolted up, running good time as well. Looks above average and confident he runs well against these.
The query with 3 Baraconi (Bet Now: $3.60) is 1200m but Mick Huxtable has her going very well this time in. Loved the way she knuckled down to win two weeks back at Morphettville. She was there to be run down but on the line was strongest. That was against the older horses too, which is a big tick. The relative weights should help her at 1200m.
4 Struck By (Bet Now: $4.80) has his share of talent. Travis Doudle trained three year old who ran over 1200m at Morphettville last time out and seemed to have every chance, but was far from disgraced in defeat I thought when third to The Big Goodbye. Was a few weeks between runs there, so should have room for improvement.
Race 3. (14:16) Murray & Leader Computers-bm82 1800m
On paper, 58 to an 82 is a big rise in class, but this is a very thin 82, so I think 7 Meadows Young Buck (Bet Now: $4.00) can run well here. Grant Young has him flying at the moment, winning two on the bounce, the latest coming at Morphettville just over three weeks ago when near the speed and fighting on strongly. Depth here isn’t strong and he gets really good weight relief.
6 Magnetic Edge (Bet Now: $3.30) is going well. He comes through the Here Comes Lenni race from a fortnight ago at Morphettville and I think most would agree that with clear air, he wins the race. Just got pushed back into a pocket by Vorster aboard Montaser. Think 1800m will be okay and though he’s been up a while, he is holding his form.
1 Here Comes Lenni (Bet Now: $3.80) is the class runner of the field and he’ll take some beating. Will Clarken trained gelding that found a perfect race two weeks back at Morphettville and under a lovely ride from Pannell, he proved too good. Creeping up in the weights, but has come back in good order.
Race 4. (14:51) Carlton Draught Hcp (68) 1200m
Think 1 Lake’s Folly (Bet Now: $5.00) can win again. There was nothing flash about his first up win two weeks ago at Morphettville but the big tick is that he won because when he was trained by Team Freedman, sometimes he turned it up when looking the winner. Hopefully that win will do his confidence the world of good and can go on with it.
4 Ambidazzle (Bet Now: $5.00) had been teasing to win a race this time in for Phillip Stokes and the win came a few weeks back at Morphettville, getting a suck run behind the speed before getting inside splits and Stubby really drove hard on her late, getting up to beat Picargo near the peg. If she can reproduce that effort here, she’s in the mix.
3 Viduka (Bet Now: $8.00) is racing well…just can’t crack it for a win. Looked like it would come two back but was nutted late by Designer Chef before racing on Boxing Day and again settling for a placing, this time a third at the hands of Symphonette. He’s ready to win one…is it here? Time will tell.
Race 5. (15:31) Ridleys Plumbing (bm82) 1000m
Looks pretty straight forward here with the Phillip Stokes trained mare 4 Sizzlefly (Bet Now: $2.00). Resumed three weeks ago at Gawler and really liked the way she found the line from off the pace, but was clearly no match for stablemate Terbium, running second. Fresh is best for her so the extra week off I do like.
2 Li’l Kontra (Bet Now: $5.50) has the class/quality to bounce back. Month between runs since finishing down the track in the Christmas Handicap where she was just run off her legs it seemed and couldn’t get involved, mind you that meeting saw a clear bias towards those on speed or nearer the inside. She can beat these off prior form.
1 Irish Mint (Bet Now: $14.00) can sneak a first four spot. Three weeks between runs since racing at Gawler when near the speed and fighting on okay to run third, but a well beaten third at that, by Terbium, who ran well in defeat last Saturday at Caulfield. Form is mixed but this veteran should command some level of respect in these kind of races.
Race 6. (16:11) Weddings @ Bridges Event-bm60 1000m
Looking for a horse to sit off what looks like it will be a hot tempo and think 9 Storm Voyager (Bet Now: $8.50) will indeed be that. Five weeks between runs since racing Morphettville when near the speed and fighting on strongly when second to Annika, who I like later in the meeting, so the form looks solid enough and can see Pannell stalking the pace and being strong at the end. She’ll do me in a tricky race to sort out with confidence.
12 Fearless Vision (Bet Now: $3.30) is the query runner. Her best is clearly good enough to win but she hasn’t produced it enough to trust her with confidence. Mind you when she did show her best, it came first up last prep and she bolted in. Fresh here, sits off a good speed…just a matter of where her fitness levels are at.
2 Exalted Gold (Bet Now: $13.00) is a beauty for Grant Young. Puts herself on speed and gives her all, which was the case when she won at Gawler three weeks ago, leading throughout and kicking on strongly to get the job done. She’s very honest and is always around the mark at this level. Think she’s a leading contender.
Race 7. (16:51) Magic Millions (bm78) 1400m
10 Hearty Lass (Bet Now: $3.00) looks one of the hardest to beat. John Hyam trained mare that comes here off the back of a rather dominant win at the midweeks at Caulfield, sitting off the speed before angling into clear air and she showed good change up speed to score. Off that, she’s the one to beat here, clearly.
1 Dexter You Devil (Bet Now: $10.00) is the class runner of the field. He hasn’t raced since resuming in the Christmas Handicap four weeks ago and given he was back near last on a day where on speed was the spot to be, just forget he went around. Gets in very well her after the claim and has a good second up record.
1600m back to 1400m is interesting with 4 Naseeb (Bet Now: $20.00), but just can’t ignore what he did first up in defeat. He was enormous, sitting wide no cover near a very genuine tempo and though beaten five lengths by Here Comes Lenni, the run was full of merit. A win wouldn’t shock, but I’d say he is more a first four contender.
Race 8. (17:31) Fibretrack (bm60) 1400m
12 Annika (Bet Now: $4.80) has returned in good order for Mick Huxtable. Impressive first up win at Morphettville over 1200m before racing at the same track/distance and finishing off nicely but was no match for the well performed Symphonette. Has a good third up record and if she holds her current form, think she wins.
10 Siberian Route (Bet Now: $2.45) is a query but looks to have some ability. Debuted over 1200m at Strathalbyn and he gave them a galloping lesson, bolting up to win by over five lengths, albeit didn’t smash the clock. But, you do have to give extra credit to the stable/jock combination at this track.
15 Bubbles McGinity (Bet Now: $23.00) is an interesting runner. Reckon they rode him a bit warm fresh at Gawler before racing there again second up. This time they rode him cold and he finished his race off with real purpose when second to Munster. Repeats that effort here and he’ll go close.
Race 9. (18:10) Butcher's Day Out 16/1 (bm64) 1600m
12 Kyshaka (Bet Now: $9.00) is well suited up to the mile for the Peter Hardacre camp. He was 1500m back to 1400m when racing at Naracoorte last time out and I loved the way she closed off from near last when second to Cuban Toonite. Big tick she gets to 1600m and is a winner at Murray Bridge.
10 Unlaced (Bet Now: $4.40) deserves another chance. Michael Hickmott trained mare that made her Australian debut over the mile at Morphettville just over three weeks ago. She had a suck run behind the speed and loomed to win. Just couldn’t quite finish it off but was still sound in defeat behind Motell. She’ll take good improvement off that and has more upside than most.
Can 15 Motell (Bet Now: $10.00) go on with it? He had been teasing to win a race this time in and it finally came three weeks back at Morphettville, finishing best from off the pace and finding plenty late under pressure. He’s always promised to be a Saturday class horse. Gets a chance here to confirm that.
