Saturday racing in Sydney makes a rare trip to Warwick Farm this weekend for a nine race card. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (11:30) TAB Rewards Handicap 1200m
5 Awesome Pluck (Bet Now: $3.40) is a beauty for the Jenny Graham yard. Trialled up well prior to debuting at Taree and gee, you won’t see a better debut win this time of year Australia wide. It absolutely trotted up and time was near identical to the other 1000m race, but he really could have smashed the clock. Trialled here last week and again looked outstanding. Just wins.
3 Brook Magic (Bet Now: $3.80) is a smart looking type for the Joe Pride camp who took on the older horses last time out over 1000m at Kembla Grange and despite being tired late, she was very impressive. 1200m is a different pain barrier, but she maps well and is on her home track, which is a big tick.
9 Manicure (Bet Now: $13.00) is the interesting. Heavily backed here on debut but had no luck in the straight when nearly going through the rail. Then went to Canterbury where she was soft in the market but defied that and in the end she was dominant. Really interesting to see how she goes here.
Race 2. (12:05) ATC Handicap (85) 1400m
Looks the perfect race for 7 Noire (Bet Now: $4.00). Smart filly for the Waller camp who was freshened up prior to racing at Canterbury a couple of Wednesdays back where she was crunched in betting and despite a few nervous moments in the straight, she found plenty. Should come on from that, maps well and gets really good weight relief.
4 Philosophy (Bet Now: $3.00) is a really good mare for Godolphin who was a drifter in betting when resuming at Canterbury but despite never looking likely, she just flashed home from the back to win right on the peg. Beat Top Of My List in her lone run here, and she has enormous upside. Key threat.
3 Blendwell (Bet Now: $34.00) is the interesting runner. Jason Coyle trained mare who resumes on her home track and you always give extra credit to Warwick Farm horses on their home track. Her best form will be over further, but her two trials leading in have been encouraging and she can sprint well fresh.
Race 3. (12:40) Pro Rata ATC Membership On Sale Handicap (78) 2400m
1 Collateral (Bet Now: $3.30) does look to pick himself here. He has been outstanding since coming to Bjorn Baker. Former Queenslander who has won four on the bounce now, the last two coming in town over the space of seven days, and the latter win was brilliant given he was seven days between runs and 1800m-2400m. Should take care of this lot.
2 Sayed (Bet Now: $2.50) had confident market support when racing over 2000m at Flemington last time out where Craig Williams gave him a peach of a ride and it deserved the win but he was nailed near the line by Encosta Line. Getting out bobbed by that horse isn’t a great endorsement, but his efforts in NSW prior to heading south were very good.
4 El Novio (Bet Now: $9.00) is a hard horse to trust/follow, but the rise to 2400m looks perfect. He ran over 1900m at Canterbury last start where he didn’t get the greatest amount of room in the straight when appearing to have a bit to offer but was good late when clear behind Estikhraaj. Good record at this distance range and is a knockout chance.
Race 4. (13:15) #theraces Handicap (72) 1400m
4 Kool Vinnie (Bet Now: $15.00) has been outstanding throughout this time in for the Kris Lees camp. It was a hard watch if you backed him last time out at Wyong. Just got back in a leader dominated affair but absolutely savaged the line to run second, This is a step up in trip but the stable knows what they are doing.
Rachel King is a very good rider but she got the tactics on 3 Arbeitsam (Bet Now: $4.60) horribly wrong at Rosehill three weeks ago. Led at a brutal tempo and the horse was gone on the turn, fading out of the finish. Will the horse sook up or will he bounce of it and show a sharp form reversal? Market will be the guide.
8 Aquatic (Bet Now: $13.00)is a bit of a non winner but I thought there was good merit to his performance a fortnight back at Randwick when closing off nicely from the back in a slowly run race to run second to Memes, who ran so well last week to hold that form up. Hard horse to catch, but this is a winnable race.
Race 5. (13:50) TAB Highway Handicap (Class 2) 1200
2 Suncraze (Bet Now: $1.85) just wins. That’s what he should have done in all three outings this time in but has just had no luck. First look, he looked to have every chance last time out at Newcastle but I think he is a horse who can’t be exposed in front too early. He is a chaser, so if he does have last say here, they won’t be beating them.
7 Sonic Girl (Bet Now: $18.00) is an in form mare for the Danny Parsons camp who deserves a crack at a Highway. She comes through a race at Bathurst last time out where she sat near the speed and tried really hard as she always does when third to proven city performer Queenian. Think she can measure up.
4 Marco Man (Bet Now: $16.00) resumed in a 1400m Highway at Rosehill and stuck on really well behind Zamex before going to the Acton track at Canberra where he sprouted wings late and grabbed them right on the peg to win. Only third up here, so he should have room for improvement and that fresh effort does read well.
Race 6. (14:30) McGrath Estate Agents Handicap (78) 1100m
14 Second Step (Bet Now: $11.00) on top for me in a really good 3YO contest. This filly resumed in a Class One at Bathurst where she started long odds on and didn’t give her supporters an ounce of worry as she darted away and won quite impressively. Two runs at the provincials last time showed some promise and I am keen to see what she does here on her home track.
10 Launch Code (Bet Now: $4.80) had his first run for the Lees camp over 1200m here at the midweeks where he didn’t really look entirely happy but his class got him home late and he ended up drawing clear. Has always shown promise and it was good to see fresh that he is liking his surroundings in the Hunter.
1 Cadogan (Bet Now: $17.00) was a real flop two back behind Memes over 1100m at Randwick before stepping up to 1200m at HQ where he ran a much better race in the worst ground I thought when fifth to Memes. He is a hard horse to trust but you go back to the fresh win at Scone…that was outstanding. Firmer footing is the key.
Race 7. (15:10) Tab.com.au Handicap (93) 1600m
3 Liapari (Bet Now: $3.50) is a consistent and tough gelding for the Chris Waller camp. Superb winner over 1500m at Rosehill three weeks back before backing up a week later at Randwick and working home well late behind dominant winner Sound Proposition. Placed in his lone run here and is hard fit/in form.
The weight drop should really suit 8 Heavenly Anna (Bet Now: $4.00). She has been taking on the mares in recent times and has been performing really well but has been bogged down by the weight impost last time. Tumbles down to 53kg now and provided she hasn’t been busted by the hard runs, she’s right in this.
6 Zayam (Bet Now: $8.00) is a handy stayer for the Matty Smith yard who comes through the Sound Proposition race at Randwick where I thought he did a really good job considering he was short of his best distance and was only second up there. I think he is looking for further, but he strikes a winnable race here.
Race 8. (15:50) Schweppes Handicap (82) 1100m
8 Isorich (Bet Now: $19.00) is a horse I am going to keep the faith with. He ran over 1000m at Randwick a fortnight back and I thought his effort in defeat was tidy. Just did far too much work on speed and felt the pinch late behind surprise winner Salerno. He has run well at Warwick Farm previously and provided he doesn’t get involved in a speed battle, he is a great each way play.
2 Your Way (Bet Now: $3.40) is a really good mare that resumes for the Bjorn Baker camp. Has won seven of nine and resumes here for a possible crack at some early Spring blacktype. Two trials leading in have been outstanding and she is a bomb when produced fresh. Looks one of the hardest to beat.
5 Secret Trail (Bet Now: $8.50) is a handy mare that comes here for Team Snowden after a three week break. Last raced at Rosehill where she didn’t appear all that happy on the wet track behind Sir Plush in a race where the form has been franked. On her best form, she is right up to these, so watch the market.
Race 9. (16:30) TAB Handicap (78) 1300m
14 Nonpariel (Bet Now: $4.80) is a smart filly for the Godolphin camp who has been given a three week break since racing over 1200m at Rosehill where I thought she was very brave in defeat behind Test The World, who franked the form seven days later. Good record here and the claim for Adkins is a big tick.
9 Imanui (Bet Now: $11.00) is a talented four year old that resumes for the Ron Quinton yard. He let the punters down badly on a couple of occasions last time in, but resumes here off the back off one trial where he ran second and looked to go about his business quite nicely. Big market/yard watch.
4 Brazen (Bet Now: $19.00) is the big watch for mine here. Former Vandyke runner that is now with Joe Pride. This four year old hasn’t raced for over 12 months since racing in the Queensland Derby where he ran a sensational fifth to Eagle Way. His two trials leading in have been solid and is trained on the track. Definite market watch.
