8/12/2023 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Canterbury

1 Dazzle Legend (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should appreciate a rise in trip for Chris Waller. He resumed over 1100m here two weeks ago and he didn’t really get a chance to build the revs from behind the speed, only getting warm late in the piece. Fitter and up to 1250m, can settle handy and be strong at the end. One of the hardest to beat.

6 Iced Chocolate (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the key and I dare say only threat. She debuted in the race mentioned above where she was on speed throughout and did give a mini kick when asked but on debut, condition just gave way late and she tired to run fourth. Should take good improvement from that and the depth here is thin.

9 Kickamushu (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one I can entertain for wider multiples. She was a $1.35 favourite at the Sapphire Coast last time but she was tardy away and chasing from the outset, but kept on in a good effort, finishing third. Gets right down in the weights after the claim, and with a clean jump, she’ll jump on the bunny and prove hard to run down.

1 Counter (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the one for me. Chris Waller trained galloper that is knocking on the door to win a maiden and I think you can make a case that he should have won three weeks ago, but he just couldn’t quite get clear air when Schiller was probing, eventually getting clear and driving hard to just miss. Gets Nash, should get clear air from the outset and back to maiden grade, she clearly appeals.

10 Kirikan (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is suited up to 1900m for Chris Waller. This three year old ran over 1550m here a fortnight back where he was badly held up in behind them when wanting to build the revs and should have been right in the finish behind Sensory. He will love the rise in trip, and if the breaks go his way in terms of clear air, he’s dangerous.

11 Mountain Top (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is bred to appreciate 1900m. Stablemate of the first two mentioned that comes through the Sensory race. She was on speed throughout and tried her guts out but just lacked the change up speed to put them away when third. Up in trip should be fine…not sure she wins, but I think for exotics, she is a must.

Leaning the way of 9 Wezza (Bet Now:  $SP.00) for Mick Minervini. This girl is first up, having not raced since June 21 when racing here and running a very credible race in defeat behind subsequent Flight Stakes winner Tropical Squall. Thought she closed off nicely in a recent Newcastle trial and in a truly run 1100m, I can see her stalking the speed and getting last look.

3 Monte Kate (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Team Price filly that is on debut. She has had four trials to get ready for start one, winning her last two and each time she went pretty good to the eye. They could have found a maiden on the Coast or Provincials so the fact they debut in town is a decent lead IMO. Watch the market.

10 Hellaine (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Hellbent filly for John Thompson that is first up. This girl resumes, having not raced since July 4 when debuting at Wyong and I just don’t think she was entirely happy around the tight track behind Shaken. She has had a couple of trials to get ready for her return and has looked solid enough each time. One that can pinch a first four spot.

I’ll take a chance with former Irish stayer 3 Newfoundlan (Bet Now:  $SP.00), who makes his Australian debut for GaiBott. This guy did his racing over 2400m+ in ireland and for the most part, he showed ability, and we know GaiBott can train speed into these stayers. His trial work has been more than encouraging and first up at 1900m looks a decent enough kick off point. He’s worth an each way ticket.

4 Yet He Moves (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will land on speed and prove hard to run down. He got a nice run outside the speed when racing here two weeks ago and that controlling of the race on speed helped him kick hard in the straight to fend off the rivals and win. There is more depth to this line up but hard to knock the way he’s racing.

8 Monarchs Brae (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has the engine under the hood to give this a shake. Just not sure where he is at. He ran at Sandown last Wednesday over 1500m where he tried to make a sustained speed from the back but he was very plain in the straight when finishing down the track behind Free To Move. His best is clearly good enough. Just want to see him do it.

4 Tsarina Sophia (Bet Now:  $SP.00) on top for me. Ryan/Alexiou trained mare that resumed here two weeks ago and while she was a well held second to impressive winner Terra Mater, I think she should have finished closer, getting held up when wanting to build the revs. Maps to get run of the race from gate one and if the breaks go her way in terms of getting clear, she’ll take holding out.

9 Power Ballard (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and prove hard to get past. This filly resumed over this track/distance three weeks ago where she produced sustained speed from the front and although out of petrol tickets late, she had enough in hand to score. The end of 1100m is the test, but dangerous if she finds the front and gets some level of control.

1 For Real Life (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is hit and miss but her best is good enough to be more than competitive. This mare comes back to 1100m after racing over 1250m here three weeks back where she got a fair way out of her ground and was never really a factor behind a talented animal Louisville. Back to this level and trip, she can run a much improved race.

4 Karedada (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to have a bit on these if he’s ready to go. Angela Davies trains this gelding, who resumes. He hasn’t raced since May 27 at Randwick when wide no cover for the trip and tired late when down the track behind Crafty Eagle. He gets Nash, a soft gate and with two strong trials under the belt, I think he’s ready to go.

3 Anythink Goes (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an improver for Matty Smith. This guy resumed two weeks ago at this track/distance where he had a suck run nearer the inside and kept on well enough but just needed the run behind Dynamic Impact. Much better second up record and maps ideally again so I think he can be a big improver.

9 Surfers Royale (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has come back in really good order for Matty Smith and commands respect. Can make a case to say he should have won first up when luckless behind the speed at Gosford before going to Newcastle where they rode with intent and he made a mess of them in a sharp display. Harder here, but he’s come back really well and is a knockout hope.

10 Herb (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a horse I have always had time for and for mine is a great each way gamble here. He ran in the Midway at Kembla on Gong Day where he got back off the speed and was never really a threat but found the line well enough I thought in defeat behind Victory Lane. Has a gate to do no work in the run and be effective late.

4 Money From The Sky (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to be in for a good prep for a very much in form Sara Ryan camp. Market said he had three legs when resuming here three weeks ago at the trip but nobody told the horse that given he gave them a start and a beating in such an impressive return. He’s Saturday class for sure so keen to see how he goes here.

8 Burning Need (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can run an improved race. She ran in the Kembla Midway mentioned above when wide no cover on speed and that hard run just told late in the piece behind Victory Lane so I am very forgiving of the run. Tricky draw again but with a positive ride, she should be fine, and prior efforts were more than sound.

8 Border Control (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will do me in the get out. Adam Duggan trained gelding that resumed with a bang when a first up winner at Gosford before racing there again where he didn’t quite get the rub of the green in somewhat of a forgive run behind Martial Music. He maps to stalk the speed and being third up, should be hard fit.

11 Grand Crusader (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is dangerous with his best. He has had two runs in Melbourne to start the prep, resuming with a placing at The Valley before a down the track effort in what looked a solid race at Sandown. Maps to get a suck run in transit and with his best, he is good enough to be more than competitive.

1 Oxford Vision (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and give cheek. He did that when resuming over 1100m at Hawkesbury and although out of petrol tickets late, he had enough in hand to score. He has the right racing pattern for this track/distance, he’s in well after the claim…definite chance.

BEST BET: Race Six Number 4 Karedada

NEXT BEST: Race Two Number 1 Counter

LONG SHOT: Race Seven Number 10 Herb
