7/10/2017 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Randwick, Spring Champion Stakes day

Group l racing continues at Randwick this Saturday where it is Spring Champion Stakes Day. The weather is overcast, the track is good (3) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

Taking the chance on the Queenslander 9 Cabeirian (Bet Now: $10.00). He is a flashy type for the Kelly Doughty yard at the Gold Coast who has won his last two starts in impressive fashion. Bolted up two back at Doomben, beating home a subsequent winner, before racing on Lismore Cup Day and bolting up again where he started $1.24. His speed figures read very well for the day and you always have to respect these Queensland runners.

2 Regent (Bet Now: $3.00) is a talented colt for Godolphin who has placed in both runs back from a break. He ran over 1400m at Warwick Farm last time out and chased hard when a narrow second to The Avenger. Possibly looking for the bigger track, so this will help his cause, and being third up, he should be cherry ripe fitness wise.

7 French Tune (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Your Song colt for the Waterhouse/Bott team who had good marker support when resuming in a Rosehill maiden last Wednesday and the punters got it right. Sat on speed throughout under McEvoy and despite being gassed late, he clung on. Maps really well here and we know with these Tulloch Lodge gallopers, they can take the major leap.

4 Up ‘N’ Rolling (Bet Now: $1.65) to get another win on the board. Given every chance by McEvoy last time out at Rosehill over 2000m but he just didn’t get the split at the right time and looked a little unlucky not to beat stablemate Alward. With clear running here, I think he can bounce back and win.

2 Alward (Bet Now: $2.90) is a Chris Waller trained stayer who was given a 12/10 by Bowman to get the win at Rosehill a fortnight back. He kept his main rival in a pocket all the way and that was the winning move as he surged to the front and kept finding. First look at Randwick but I don’t think that will be a negative.

3 Veladero…(Bet Now: $7.00) well dear me, what do we do with him. He finds a great chance to win another race because he does look the leader, but his two runs back since being gelded have been awful. Trialled up okay here recently, he does look the leader…and we know what happens with the bolter in a small field.

3 Interlocuter (Bet Now: $2.50) is a very good horse for Godolphin and James Cummings. He resumed four weeks back over 1400m at Rosehill where he was backed as if unbeatable and was first past the post but lost it in the stewards room. Has since trialled and looked very good there. Only bad luck beats him here.

1 Hogmanay (Bet Now: $5.50) is a tough, tough customer for Chris Waller who has been excellent this time in and does deserve a win. He ran over 1400m at Rosehill a fortnight ago and his effort behind tearaway leader/winner Sir Plush was more than tidy when chasing that horse throughout and not turning it up. Randwick mile looks ideal and he should be hard fit, ready to go.

5 Impavido (Bet Now: $6.50) is a talented gelding for the Bjorn Baker yard who resumed in the Sir Plush race at Randwick a fortnight back and he was just not suited at all by the way that race panned out so for mine it was a total forgive behind. He ran some ripping races during the 3YO classics of the Autumn and last time he was at the Randwick, he closed off with purpose in the Guineas behind Inference.

4 Cascata Rossa (Bet Now: $2.30) is a clear fav but under $3, gee he’s short enough. Had to be impressed with the way he put them away at the Gold Coast last time out under Lloyd. Admittedly, he beat nothing but he gapped them and the times he ran were seven lengths and nine lengths quicker than the other two 1400m races on the day, and keep in mind he has won two races but was disqualified, so really, he’s a four time winner in a Class 3…beautifully in.

3 Schedule (Bet Now: $4.40) is a talented galloper for Mack Griffith who has been excellent in both runs back from a break. Resumed in a Highway over 1400m here and worked home well late behind My Tagoson before going to the Dubbo Cup where he was a heavily backed fav and I think he was just a bit too close to the speed and didn’t attack the line when third to Brazen. I think with a more conservative steer, third up, he’ll be right to go.

7 Bronzed Venom (Bet Now: $9.50) is a five year old trained by Matty Dunn who is racing as if he will appreciate the step up to the mile. He ran over 1400m at Grafton last time out and was very one paced but he stuck on well in defeat behind Cool Prince. Looking for further, which he gets here, and we know the record the stable has in these races.

1 Mighty Lucky (Bet Now: $8.00) is a beauty for the Fred Cowell yard who should take some beating here. Got a definite pass mark first up in the Theo Marks before going to the Shannon where he got the split and burst through but couldn’t match the turn of foot to go with Washington Heights. Third up at the 1400m looks an ideal recipe for success.

4 Duca Valentinois (Bet Now: $10.00) is a talented galloper for Godolphin that is first up here. The Autumn prep was clearly highlighted by his dominant Scone Cup triumph and he proved that was no fluke with an excellent run during the Brisbane Winter Carnival. Looked good in a 1200m trial win a couple of weeks back and looks ready to go.

6 Shillelagh (Bet Now: $9.00) is a quality mare that resumes for the Chris Waller team. This girl had a mixed Autumn, plagued by wet tracks, but once she first found firm ground, in the Darley Crown at Hawkesbury, she won impressively. That is the key to her, and she she has looked great in a couple of trials.

3 Viridine (Bet Now: $2.80) maintained his unbeaten record, making it three from three with a superb win in the Heritage. The margin was a touch flattering given Single Bullet was unlucky, but he did it quite well and looked to have improvement left. Can he maintain a margin over Single Bullet? Not sure, but have to respect a winner.

2 Single Bullet (Bet Now: $3.90) comes through the Heritage where he was first up there with the big weight and I thought his effort was very good. Got badly held up when appearing to have plenty to offer and had no momentum when second to Viridine. Confident he turns the tables here and he does have class/quality.

7 Albumin (Bet Now: $8.50) also comes through the Heritage and I thought his effort in defeat was a beauty. They rode him with cover in the race instead of going forward and to an extent it backfired because the tempo was slow, but he did produce the best late splits behind Viridine. If he can sit closer in the run here, he’ll take some beating.

1 Ace High (Bet Now: $3.30) was ridden more forward last time out in the Gloaming and the change of tactics worked a treat. He led all the way under Tye Angland and was really strong to the line in getting the job done. He will get the 2000m no issue, has the form on the board and is a clear threat.

3 Tangled (Bet Now: $5.00) is on the quick back up for the Chris Waller stable after racing in the Dulcify last Saturday where he was much better and bounced back to something near his best form with a close up fourth to Ataraxia. Crying out for further, which he gets here, he has the upside and I love Waller horses on the seven day turnaround.

7 Sully (Bet Now: $9.00) is the knockout chance. Scored a couple of remarkable wins to kick off his prep before going to the Gloaming where he just lacked the turn of foot to go with them but his effort late was sound and it was the run of a horse who was wanting further, which he gets here, and you always have to respect the Busuttin/Young three year olds.

2 Dixie Blossoms (Bet Now: $3.60) looks one of the best bets of the day for mine. Ron Quinton trained mare who did a good job fresh in the Theo Marks before going to the Golden Pendant a fortnight back where she looked to travel up with purpose and win but her condition just gave way late when second to stablemate Daysee Doom. Confident she turns the tables and is the clear one to beat.

1 Daysee Doom (Bet Now: $4.20) is a ripping mare for Ron Quinton. She doesn’t know how to run a bad race and that trend continued in the Golden Pendant, sitting wide no cover throughout but she kept finding under Andrew Adkins to win. She too has upside, but not as much as Dixie hence why she is on top.

I think the value here clearly lies with 6 Zenalicious (Bet Now: $12.00). Talented mare for Les Bridge who looked big in condition still when second up in the Golden Pendant and I thought her effort was great late in the piece behind Daysee Doom. Randwick mile looks perfect and being third up, she should be near peak fitness.

11 Calabasas (Bet Now: $11.00) is a talented four year old that resumes for the Kim Waugh yard. He ran some really good races in the Autumn, most notably in the Provincial Championship Final when a hard luck story. Looks wound up to run well fresh to my eye off the back of two sharp trials. Big yard/market watch.

I think 12 Redouble (Bet Now: $7.50) is the huge watch here. Former Hawkes galloper having his first run for the Bjorn Baker yard and gee I think he has trialled enormous for his return. Yes, it was only one 735m trial, which isn’t an ideal grounding for a resumption, but his two fresh runs, he’s beaten Raiment in the first one and the second and latest fresh run, he ran second to Raiment. Good form for this.

9 My Country (Bet Now: $15.00) is the knockout chance for mine. Talented amre for Team Snowden that resumes here. The mare didn’t really fire a shot in three runs during the Autumn but she did contest races where things didn’t really go to plan. Trials leading in have been great and she does have a very good first up record.

NEXT BEST: Race Eight Number 2 Dixie Blossoms

VALUE: Race Nine Number 11 Calabasas
