Race One (12:05) : VRC Member Paul Tamburro Handicap (84) 2000m:
Back Me: 2 Yulong Baby (Bet Now: $2.00) ran over 1800m here a fortnight back and had no hope in winning given the tempo was a crawl and she was back in the ruck so to finish fourth was a really good effort I thought (Khutulun ran second). Loses nothing with Ben Allen replacing Mick Dee and she should be getting closer to peak fitness. Gets her chance here.
Big Danger: 4 Savannah Moon (Bet Now: $4.00) won that race mentioned above and gee I thought she was super given she led them away and despite being strongly challenged in the straight, she found plenty and held them at bay. Extra trip is the worry but she’ll get a soft lead again I suspect.
Roughie: 3 Az Given (Bet Now: $4.00) is the knockout runner here. She bolted up at the Valley a tick over three weeks back, beating home Savannah Moon, who of course beat Khutulun who won impressively last weekend so the form does read very well for this mare and she gets the services of Mick Dee, so she ticks plenty of boxes.

Race Two (12:40) : VRC Member John Gubbins Handicap (70) 1400m:
Back Me: 8 Brookwater (Bet Now: $12.00) was perhaps ridden a touch upside down when resuming on the Pakenham Synthetic but the son of Hinchinbrook showed his class and quality and got the job done. His debut run resulted in a five length defeat here at the hands of Sweet Sherry, who wasn’t far off them in a Golden Slipper. Draws well and gets Oliver. Ticks the boxes.
Big Danger: 3 Zunbaqa (Bet Now: $4.00) ran on the Parks track in Adelaide last start and was super in leading all the way and bolting in, and after that, not one leader won for the afternoon, so does that add merit to his win? Not sure, but he draws to get a good run near the speed and rates as a winning chance.
Roughie: 12 Whyouask (Bet Now: $7.00) was a strong debut winner at Echuca before being freshened up and running a closing fourth at Sale behind Perfectly Safe in what was a really good effort. Big track will really help her, as will the extra furlong and looks to be a knockout chance at odds if things fall into place for her.

Race Three (13:15) : VRC Member Wendy Johnson Handicap 2000m:
Back Me: 1 Almandin (Bet Now: $3.60) resumed at the Valley in mid June and was one of the runs of the day when near last in the run and making up ground behind Onpicalo, who has franked the form since. Bigger track will be right up his alley and has upside.
Big Danger: 2 Killarney Kid (Bet Now: $3.50) ran over this track/distance a month back in the Country Cup and was an impressive winner, albeit in a race which had less depth than what he faces here. Despite that, he looked very sharp in a St Arnaud trial and is a leading contender.
Roughie: 5 Golden Mane (Bet Now: $6.00) was unlucky not to win last start over 2000m at Caulfield when he got badly held up behind runners and burst through late to just miss out on picking up Scherzoso. Returns to Flemington where he races well and has upside.

Race Four (13:50) : VRC Member Allen Aylett Handicap 1700m:
Back Me: Sorry guys…I’m going to stick with 7 Lord Durante, (Bet Now: $5.50) but this is his last chance for me. His effort here last time out with the big weight was more than satisfactory I thought behid Royal Rapture. He meets that horse 1kg better off here and I really would like to see him lead, because that is when he is at his best.
Big Danger: 2 Petrology (Bet Now: $5.00) is one of the great menaces of Australian racing and he nearly went to Von Costa De Hero status when he loomed to win the Winter Championship but he couldn’t quite get past Iggimacool. Hard to trust but I’m including him.
Roughie: 5 Falago (Bet Now: $5.50) has been given a seven week break since running a very game second to stablemate Master Of Arts over 2500m here, beaten a half length in a super effort. 1700m is short of his best, and his fresh record isn’t great, but he is in the right stable and is a trier.

Race Five (14:30) : VRC Member Daniel Maher Handicap 1400m:
Back Me: 8 All Cerise (Bet Now: $12.00) is a talented mare that resumes for Chris Waller. Looked to trial well at Rosehill behind stablemate Who Shot Thebarman before being sent here where she looked very sharp in a jump out last Friday. Looks ready to run a cheeky race fresh.
Big Danger: 6 Ulmann (Bet Now: $2.90) was very good first up behind Duke Of Brunswick before turning the tables on that horse three weeks back, aided by a peach from Williams. Has to do it away from Caulfield, but he has upside and is in the right stable.
Roughie: 3 She’s Clean (Bet Now: $16.00) has been given a little freshen up after three runs here where she ran competitively but couldn’t quite win, including last start behind Telopea in the Leilani Series Final (1400m) where the tempo was against her. Little break between runs should do her no harm and is a leading chance.

Race Six (15:10) : Jockey Celebration Day Handicap (90) 1000m:
Back Me: 17 Risen From Doubt (Bet Now: $10.00) is the clear watch horse here. Over 12 months since we last saw him on the track, but there is no denying his talent. Form around him reads so well, with names like Husson Eagle and Galaxy Pegasus mentioned. Looked okay last week in a Flemington jump out, but if he is anywhere near fit, he’ll run a ripping race.
Big Danger: 8 Gun Case (Bet Now: $4.80) has earned a crack at this level after proving too good for them last start at the Valley over this distance. Bit of an unknown down the straight, but he is in winning form and has the Weir polish.
Roughie: 11 Shaf (Bet Now: $13.00) has been given a near two month break since racing on the Parks track in Adelaide when running fourth to Casino Wizard. The break looks to have done him well based on a jump out here last Friday. He is talented and tough and should handle the depth rise.

Race Seven (15:50) : Auries Star Handicap 1200m:
Back Me: 4 Mighty Like (Bet Now: $6.50) is an absolute beauty for Mick Price who was such an impressive winner here first up after receiving good support from punters late. Nothing from that race will turn the tables on him here IMO and he shapes up as a real threat.
Big Danger: 9 Ruettiger (Bet Now: $4.20) has been given a four week let up since winning the Sprint Final here when defeating Voodoo Lad, who has since failed behind Mighty Like so the form is a query, but he loves racing down the straight and will be strong late.
Roughie: 7 Mr Chard (Bet Now: $26.00) is a talented galloper for Tony McEvoy that resumes here after racing during the Carnival in Adelaide where he closed off well in a Stakes race behind Dylanson. He finds a very winnable race here on his best form and should prove hard to beat on that basis, and a trial last week was quite encouraging.

Race Eight (16:30) : VRC Member John Lee Handicap (84) 1400m:
Back Me: 13 Just Stellar (Bet Now: $7.50) ran against her own age/sex here a fortnight back at this track/distance and she tried hard but couldn’t quite reel in the leader and eventual winner, Stylemaker, who did have market support. Draws a wide gate, but I’m hoping she will get three wide cover and ambush late.
Big Danger: 10 Kaniana (Bet Now: $4.50) was second up in that Beirut race and her effort too was encouraging, getting well back and working home strongly late. Probably looking for the mile now, but even here, I think she will be very competitive now she’s third up and getting closer to peak fitness.
Roughie: 1 Miss Softhands (Bet Now: $8.50) was specked at odds to win first up at Caulfield three weeks back and though she didn’t win, I thought her effort from the back was very good behind Beirut. She did win here impressively last prep and looks well in at the weights after the claim for Beau Mertens.

Race Nine (17:05) : VRC Member Keli Sponner Handicapm (78) 1200m:
Back Me: 7 Badajoz (Bet Now: $4.50) ran down the straight a fortnight back and ran well but was no match for the surprise winner Astro Castro, beaten just under two lengths. That was his first look here so he should take good improvement off that and is a leading contender.
Big Danger: 3 Heza Ripper (Bet Now: $8.00) was crunched in betting to win last start at Caulfield and aided by a peach from Dylan Dunn, he proved too good. Jumped out well here last Friday and looks ready to run a beauty.
Roughie: 5 Manhattan Blues (Bet Now: $12.00) was a real eye catcher last time out at the Valley when getting back and held up before eventually getting clear and charging home to run a close up third to Magicus, who was luckless last Saturday, so the form reads pretty well and he is drawn the right part of the track.
