Night racing continues at The Valley this Friday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (18:15) Msc Signs (Bm70) 2040m
1 Kaluakoi (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks the most obvious. Do I want to dive into the shorts? No. He won on Cranbourne Cup Day, leading throughout and he didn’t give his rivals a look in. Should get front end control once again and if the track is playing up/in, he will take running down.
4 Papal Army (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is lightly raced and heading in the right direction. He ran second at Cranbourne behind Kaluakoi in the race mentioned above, trying very hard but just lacked the turn of foot, which could be the case here again. He’ll need a positive ride.
6 Bancory Bay (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes to town off a maiden win at Bendigo where he got better as the race went on and albeit the margin was narrow, he was quite good. Lacks the class but I think he’ll appreciate the rise in trip.
Race 2. (18:45) Symal Mdn Plate 1200m
9 Princess Que (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks a big price here I feel. This filly was hard in the market when debuting at Bendigo. She was near the speed and presented to win but just couldn’t quite get there. Better for the run and with a kind map in his corner, she only runs well I say.
8 Flattered (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Team Payne trained filly that resumes. She did nice things as a juvenile, establishing herself as a city class type. 1200m fresh signals some form of intent and she should be strong at the end. Definite threat.
6 Phoenix Legend (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1200m after debuting over 1000m at Caulfield Heath. He was raw and new to the caper but he kept finding the line in a good effort. Better for the run, up in trip, he’s one of the leading chances.
Race 3. (19:15) Western General Bodyworks (Bm74) 2500m
4 Interlinked (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should love the rise to 2500m. He ran on Cranbourne Cup Day where he got back to near last in the run and in a barrier trial, he was never a factor but did make up ground and is racing like 2500m will be ideal. Hopefully with a more positive ride, he will only run well at odds.
1 Karburan (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is one of the hardest to beat. He won the race mentioned above on Cranbourne Cup Day, getting complete control in front and he gave nothing else a look in. If he gets that similar set up here, he’ll take running down.
6 Sky Out (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran second to Karburan in the race mentioned above. He sat outside that horse in the run and tried hard but just lacked the change up speed to win but he stayed on, suggesting 2500m is fine and is one of the leading contenders.
Race 4. (19:45) Ranvet (Bm70) 1500m
7 Both Sides Now (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks the most obvious for Ciaron Maher, having placed over the mile here three weeks ago when on speed and tried hard but was no match late for impressive winner Autumn Slide. She does tend to race well with the mini gap between runs and with a good racing style, back to 1500m, she is the one to beat.
1 Harmonious Senora (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a rise in trip after resuming over 1440m at Caulfield Heath where she got back in the run but worked to the line with purpose in a good return behind Russian Meteor. Fitter and up in trip…may need one more and a further rise in trip, but she does have the class factor on her side.
3 Zambezi Khan (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is second up for Team Payne and dangerous with her best. I’d be forgiving of her first up run at Donald. She was back, fresh over an unsuitable trip, and the race was dominated on speed so forgive and forget. Similar to Harmonious Senora, another run and rise in trip would be ideal, but has a touch of quality and maps to settle handy.
Race 5. (20:15) Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge (Bm64) 955m
4 Lascars (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a short course specialist, he goes well fresh and has a good racing style. He resumes, having not raced since June 9 at Swan Hill when on speed and fighting hard but just couldn’t quite see it through when a close up fifth. Maddie Lloyd gets on well with the horse and he has jumped out nicely for the return.
2 Octrain (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes through the Grand Larceny race from two weeks ago at this track/distance. He got into a tricky spot from the wide gate but was good and close up in defeat behind the Team Hawkes galloper. No horse of that quality here and gets a jockey upgrade.
5 Flying Ace (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is on the seven day back up after resuming at this track/distance last Friday night when looking in need of the run, finishing down the track behind impressive winner Bold Print, who would be a clear favourite here. Better for the run, kind map, he rates highly.
Race 6. (20:45) Hygain Tracktorque Hcp (C1) 1200m
6 Proved (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes straight to town off the back of an electric debut win at Moe where he produced sustained speed from the front and gave nothing else a look in, running solid overall time. Tricky draw, but should press forward once again and gets a big jockey upgrade with Craig Williams replacing Carleen Hefel. The one to beat.
5 Checkthemenu (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is another 1200m debut winner that comes straight to town. This one is trained by Team Payne and his debut came at Swan Hill. He sat on speed and was trucking before being clicked up by Tom Prebble and away he went to win well. Maps nicely and gets in well after the claim for Prebble.
1 Tatsu (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Kennewell/Yeoman trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since June 6 when ending the prep on a high with a maiden win at Geelong. I like horses that go out on a high because they usually come back in similar form and his jumpout work has been good.
Race 7. (21:15) Concrete Republic (Bm64) 1600m
3 Presser (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since Nov 2 at Morphettville over the mile when on speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite see it through, run down late by Hasseltoff. Tricky draw but a good racing style and has solid enough form lines around him.
1 King’s Capital (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a rise in trip for Team Hayes. He resumed over 1350m on Donald Cup Day where he looked in need of the run when midfield behind talented mare Flying Fizz, not getting the clearest of paths. Gets in well after the claim, good upside, rates highly.
2 Play On Words (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks the leader and with front end control, he can run a positive race, as seen on Kilmore Cup Day when leading and giving a strong kick but just couldn’t quite see it through when third. If he leads and gets a cheap furlong or two, he takes running down.
Race 8. (21:45) Simpson Construction (Bm70) 2040m
6 Autumn Storm (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is short enough but he does look the one to beat. He ran over this trip three weeks ago when getting the beaut run in transit just off the speed and loomed to win when presented but found one better in Rise To It. Racing well and strikes a race where the depth isn’t overly deep.
10 Placentia Bay (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has done little wrong in a five start career and is one of the key threats, perhaps the only threat. He was on speed throughout two weeks ago at this track/distance and fought hard, hailed as the winner for a few strides but was beaten a lip. Good racing style, he appeals.
4 Son Of Solly (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is racing well at present for Grahame Begg. He ran over 1800m at Caulfield Heath last time out when getting a suck run behind the speed before angling clear and was good in defeat when second to Divine Crown. 2040m should be fine, maps ideally and should be strong late.
