Melbourne racing this Saturday returns to William Hill Park Hillside for a strong program, where the feature race is the $120,000 Listed City Of Greater Dandenong Stakes (1000m). The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out eight metres for the entire circuit.

Race One (12:25) : Noble Park Plate (70) 1400m:
Back Me: I’ll go with Net Worth (Best Odds: $9.50) here in what looks a really tricky race. He took on the older horses last start at Echuca where he worked home very late in the piece when third to stablemate Lady’s Persuasion. The runner up went enormous at Swan Hill on the weekend, so the form looks pretty good and I think the bigger track will only be beneficial.
Big Danger: King Amongst Many (Best Odds: $13.00) was heavily backed on Pakenham Cup Day last Sunday, but he just pulled his head off in the run and had nothing left in the straight. Interesting to note that the stable also nominated a very impressive last start winner, but elect to run the maiden. Could that be a guide to stable confidence perhaps?
Roughie: I’m not sure how strong the form reference will be, but there was a bit to like about the debut win of Vostok on Kilmore Cup Day where he sat off them, then got the split and showed a nice turn of foot to win. It’s never easy for a debutante to win on that track, and the stable sends him straight to town, so he should be watched closely.

Race Two (13:00) : Yarraman Village Plate 1600m:
Back Me: Jacquinot Bay (Best Odds: $4.00) is a very consistent galloper for the Hayes/Dabernig yard who last ran three weeks back in the Eclipse Stakes (1800m) when fourth to Casino Dancer. Back to the mile looks ideal, and with the claim for Dylan Dunn, he does look so well placed in this grade.
Big Danger: Evangelist (Best Odds: $6.00)was super in winning the Sale Cup (1600m) then had absolutely no luck in the Kilmore Cup (1600m) when appearing to be a serious winning chance. Bigger track will be perfect for him, and third up now, he should be just about at peak fitness.
Roughie: Black Jag (Best Odds: $26.00) was specked in betting when resuming at Rosehill a couple of weeks back but he didn’t seem to appreciate the bog surface when fifth to Zanbagh. Form out of that race held right up last weekend, and with this horse, his racing pattern is to roll along in front and keep going, and the speed map suggests here that he could well be allowed to do that.

Race Three (13:35) : Ashfords Accountants Plate (84) 1800m:
Back Me: Sir Berus (Best Odds: $13.00) has been bursting to win a race since joining the Colin Little yard, and he finally got the job done for his patient connections over the mile at Moonee Valley, aided by an absolute peach from Pat Moloney, who sticks. Draws well again, and given he will do no work, I think he will get see the trip out.
Big Danger: Turbo Street (Best Odds: $5.00) is the up and comer who should be respected enormously here. He was huge in winning first up at Geelong, and then at Bendigo, I don’t think huge would do the horse justice and how he won. Big leap in grade here, but he looks as though he will handle it comfortably, and the big track with the long straight will be perfect for his racing pattern.
Roughie: Now’s The Time (Best Odds: $11.00) had won well three back at Canterbury, but he has been quite disappointing in two subsequent runs. I like the fact that the stable has sent him to Melbourne, and blinkers on first time could spark him into action. Really interested to see if there is market support, because if there is, I’ll be on his back.

Race Four (14:10) : Macpherson Kelley Plate 1400m:
Back Me: Metaphorical (Best Odds: $5.00) produced one of the runs of the day when resuming on Ballarat Cup Day, storming home from the back to run fourth to stablemate Weinholt. She will only be better suited up in trip and with the added fitness, along with the fact she is now back to her own sex.
Big Danger: She’s Clean (Best Odds: $4.00) has been very good since coming back to Melbourne, firstly on Cup Day behind Scarlet Billows before running second to Solicit in the Summoned at this track over 1500m. Easier here and is in great form, so she should take some beating.
Roughie: Anaphora (Best Odds: $6.50) also ran on Ballarat Cup Day and was another that was good against the bias, working home strongly late to run fourth to A Lotta Love. The extra furlong is perfect, as is the big track given she does need time to wind up, and that is what she gets here.

Race Five (14:45) : Hilton Manufacturing Handicap (78) 1500m:
Back Me: I’ll go with Distant Rock (Best Odds: $4.80). This horse will probably be best known as the last ride for Jim Cassidy, and Pumper rode him well at Flemington, getting out to the best part of the track, taking Zebrinz with him and pretty much giving that horse the win. Bit easier here, and I think she should be at peak fitness now, especially on a firmer track.
Big Danger: Lilly Dazzler (Best Odds: $3.90) is a very good mare who was excellent at this track/distance last start in the Summoned Stakes when charging home from last to run fourth to star mare Solicit. Clever claim with Jordan Childs, gate one…looks very well placed.
Roughie: Bascule (Best Odds: $11.00) is a very talented mare who really hasn’t done a great deal this time in, the latest coming at the Valley when finishing down the track behind Tarangower. She is better than that and on her best form, she’d take a power of beating against this lot. Expect her to go much better here IMO.

Race Six (15:25) : Total Logistic Solutions Handicap (78) 1000m:
Back Me: Race has really fallen away thanks to scratchings. With many runners out, this just looks to be set up for Heatherly (Best Odds: $2.05). She was very good as a two year old, running good races behind Ready For Victory and Fontiton, which is Group l form. Should just ping over from the wide gate, scoot along and prove too good for them here.
Big Danger: My Passport (Best Odds: $7.00) debuted at Bendigo and sat on speed most of the way for a narrow but gritty win, beating home Diamond District, who bolted up next time out to frank the form. Should get every chance from the good gate and is a definite leading contender.
Roughie: Bellomo (Best Odds: $9.00) resumes here for Robbie Griffiths after three runs in the Winter, the latest being at Flemington behind Jalan Jalan, who looks a Stakes class filly of the future. Recent Cranbourne trial was encouraging and the stable always fires during the Summer, so I am tipping this horse to run very well.

Race Seven (16:05) : City Of Greater Dandenong Stakes 1000m:
Back Me: Office Bearer (Best Odds: $9.00) resumed down the straight on Oaks Day at Flemington and tried very hard when a close up third to The Quarterback. The slight rise in trip and getting back on a firmer surface will suit this horse perfectly and second up last time in, he ran fourth to Ball Of Muscle in the QTC Cup (1200m).
Big Danger: Reldas (Best Odds: $5.00) was known as just a Moonee Valley specialist, but he put that theory to bed when he closed off very strongly over 1400m on Stakes Day to run second to Malaguerra. Back to 1000m will suit his racing pattern and he has won twice on this track.
Roughie: Danger Close (Best Odds: $14.00) won this race last year and he appears on target to run well again after an eye catching first up run at Moonee Valley when a close up fifth to Trevinder, who ran a beauty last weekend. He will get back again, but the speed will give him every chance to blouse them late.

Race Eight (16:45) : Sensational Springvale Handicap (84) 1300m:
Back Me: If the real Galaxy Pegasus (Best Odds: $4.80) turns up here, he’ll put a decent margin on them. Clearly the best horse in the race, but his barrier and racing manners are costing him dearly. Shouldn’t be far away from the gate, well weighted…gee it looks his race on his best form.
Big Danger: King Buddy (Best Odds: $9.00) worked home okay from the back to finish fourth to Kirani on Kilmore Cup Day in a race where the winner had an absolute picnic in front. His best is past him, but with a cold ride and cover, he can finish strongly late in a very even race on paper.
Roughie: Del Prado (Best Odds: $10.00) resumes here for the Corstens team off the back of some nice efforts at the Flemington jump outs. Drawn terribly, but leading apprentice on board and he can pull out a run fresh.

Race Nine (17:25) : Vawdrey Semi Trailers Handicap (70) 2400m:
Back Me: Going with Everglades (Best Odds: $31.00) Her first three runs this time in were just so so, but she bounced back to winning form with a strong and determined victory at Bairnsdale. This race doesn’t look overly strong at all, and given her racing pattern, the 2400m should be perfect on this big track.
Big Danger: All I Survey (Best Odds: $8.00) comes through the staying race on Ballarat Cup Day where she worked home alright against the track bias when finishing fourth to Purple Smile. Gives the impression that she will run the trip out, and this race doesn’t look to have a great amount of depth.
Roughie: Maysoor (Best Odds: $16.00) finally broke through for a well deserved maiden win at Benalla last start, though I will say it looked as though it wouldn’t happen 600m out given he was off the bit and struggling big time, but he picked up the leader, who was walking. He ran well in the SA Derby behind Delicacy in the Autumn, so the 2400m here will be no issue, and he will just keep whacking away.
