5/7/2025 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Sunshine Coast, Winx Guineas day

A bumper nine event card has been set down for the Sunny Coast this Saturday, with several Stake races across the program. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

7 Mr Verse (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the straight bat play. Team McEvoy trained three year old that resumes, having not raced since ending last prep on a high with a spank job win at Pakenham. Given a good break and I thought his recent Poly trial win here was sharp. If he overcomes the gate, I think he wins.

8 Pivotal Lad (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can run a much improved race here for Tony Gollan. I thought he’d run really well at Ipswich two weeks ago but given the way the track played and the fact he was last in the run, he was never going to be a factor. Better suited here, he can bounce back for sure on the bigger track.

5 Runwiththetide (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is dangerous for Rob Heathcoate. He did too much work on speed at Ipswich last time and just felt the pinch late in the piece behind Pre Eminence. I think with a more patient steer, a bunny to chase, he’s more effective.

1 Bews (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying this time in and can win without surprising. He ran behind Compelling Truth in the Hinkler three weeks back where he got a fair way out of his ground but really liked the way he finished his race off in defeat. He’ll be spotting them a start but should be strong at the end.

7 Caspernova (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was scratched from an easier race at Eagle Farm on Wednesday in preference for this. He resumed at Doomben when off speed and chased with purpose late, looking the winner, but Simbu got the split and bloused late. Fitter, kind map, rates highly.

13 Sultry Siren (Bet Now:  $SP.00) won a Gold Coast Qualifier two weeks ago. The track was quite testing but really liked the way she knuckled down late to score. The end of 1200m is fine, she’s in form and overall, this isn’t a deep contest.

2 Certified Copy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the straight bat play. Bevan Laming trained juvenile that has won his past two, winning over 1110m at Doomben two back before repeating the dose in more impressive fashion at the Gold Coast. He’ll be strong late, handles wet ground, like him.

8 Prestar (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an improver for Team McEvoy. He resumed with a spank job win here before going to the Oxlade where he was outclassed and ran accordingly. Tricky draw, but back to this level, he’s a definite improver and can take this out.

1 Betterlucknexttime (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here several weeks between runs since contesting the BRC Sires at Eagle Farm where he did make up headway but was beaten a long way by Cool Archie. Firmer deck, maps ideally and I do like him back in trip.

11 Overfull (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will land on the bunny and take running down. Peter Robl trained filly that led at Rosehill three weeks ago and looked the winner when booting clear but had no answers late for Winning Proposal. Back to 1000m, good racing style, she’ll do me.

14 Just Precious (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Stuart Kendrick trained filly that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since March 1 when racing over 1400m at Eagle Farm and failed to fire, looking a tired horse behind Goodlucktome. Fresh at 1000m is ideal, home track, and her recent trial win here on the Poly was sharp.

7 Chaming Nic (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has an engine under the hood. Total forgive at Doomben last time behind Simbu, getting badly held up in behind them and was pretty much there as a barrier trial. If the breaks go his way, he can threaten.

7 Millane (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes through the Hinkler from three weeks ago at Eagle Farm. He got too far out of his ground but I really liked the way he closed his race off behind Compelling Truth. If he can be within range, he has the finale to launch over the top.

1 Steady Ready (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a short course specialist that clearly looks hard to beat. He has been freshened up since the Lightning on June 7 at Eagle Farm when on speed and just felt the pinch late in the piece. He races best on the fresh side and his trial win last week at Beaudesert was quite good.

9 Economics (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has home track advantage and appeals with his best. He has been kept on ice since the Chief De Beers when outclassed, finishing down the track behind Manhood. Better suited here I feel, he can run an improved race.

The stable is flying at present and yes, the pattern may have been flattering, but the finale of 14 Bollinger Miss (Bet Now:  $SP.00) at Ipswich was very, very good. Loved the way she closed off late, clocking good late splits and savaged the line late to run third to Mister Bianco. Eats up 1600m, wet ground is fine, worthy of an each way ticket.

6 Italian Riviera (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has home track advantage and is an interesting runner. He is a few weeks between runs since a win over 1350m at Doomben, giving them a start and a beating, producing a very strong finale to score. Like him up in trip and this isn’t a deep edition of this race.

3 Apuntar (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is racing well and should be around the mark. He ran three weeks back in the Gunsynd at Eagle Farm. The race shape and track pattern was against him but he stayed on and was good in defeat behind Just Feelin Lucky, who would be a clear favourite here, so the form reads well.

4 Warnie (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has to be given another look for Ciaron Maher. Like most, I was keen on him in the Eye Liner and I think just forgive his run given he was on the inside and held up, not really getting a chance to build the revs, which does seem the way to ride him. Give him to wind up and build the revs. If that eventuates, I think he wins.

1 Far Too Easy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is right in this if he runs to his best. He has been hit and miss this time in but he does love getting his toe and he does have the runs on the board vs most of these. Down the track in the Stradbroke, he’s better suited here and can threaten.

12 Redford (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a sleeper at odds. On face value, he was plain at Ipswich two weeks ago, but he was wide no cover for the trip and the hard run just told on him late in the piece behind Castillian. Back on the home track and with a better run in transit, he can run first four.

2 Nikau Spur (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to 2400m after racing over the two miles in the Brisbane Cup three weeks back. He ran an honest race against the pattern, but he was just outclassed. Better suited here at 2400m, he’s a definite improver at odds.

5 Bear On The Loose (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key threat after his Winter Cup effort a few weeks back. He attempted to lead throughout and gave a very strong kick from the front but just couldn’t quite see it through, nabbed late by stablemate Sir Lucan. Good racing style, hard fit, he appeals.

13 Felix The Scat (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a horse that once he finds positive form, he holds it, so with that in mind, he has to be given serious respect here after his Ipswich Cup placing where he made a sustained run, dashed and looked home, but was nabebd near the peg by Flash Aah. 2400m is fine, I say he’s hard to beat against these.

5 National Choice (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a knockout hope. He ran down the track behind Castillian at Ipswich. But, totally forgiving of the run given he was wide throughout from the gate and just couldn’t get involved. If he gets a drag into the race, he can win at a price.

12 Deep Respect (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key threat. He ran a fortnight back at Ipswich where he got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, he did close off quite well late in the piece behind Castillian when fourth. Tricky gate but commands respect.

7 Toesonthenose (Bet Now:  $SP.00) commands respect for Jack Bruce, who comes here first up. His last run came on April 19 over the mile at Eagle Farm when off speed and kept chasing in a pretty good effort in defeat behind Demon Darb. He’ll be strong late, watch betting.
