Race 1. (12:32) TAB Maiden Plate 1000m
First starter, but I think 9 The Move (Bet Now: $1.65) is the best on the card. Tony Gollan trains this colt, who is on debut off the back of two winning trials this time in, the latest coming at the Sunny Coast and gee I like the way he stretched out when asked. Looks to be a monster of a horse with a big stride, but he put them away very impressively. Runs up to that, he wins.
8 Playthefield (Bet Now: $3.10) looks the only threat, and the tick for him over the top tip is race experience. He got that in June at Doomben in a 2YO maiden when a closing second after getting a fair way back in the run. Trialled well at the Sunny Coast, but his trial time was several lengths slower than The Move, and was extended, so that’s the knock for me here.
2 Go Getter (Bet Now: $9.50) is an improver second up. Was a notable drifter in betting when resuming over 1000m at the Sunny Coast where she got back in the run and spotted those in front too much head start, but worked to the line very well I thought. I’d prefer her at 1200m, but perhaps a fast run 1000m suits, especially if she can settle that little bit closer in the run.
Race 2. (13:07) 3YO Maiden Plate 1200m
Landed with 2 Entertainer (Bet Now: $3.50) for Chris Waller. He had trialled up in very sharp fashion prior to debuting over 1100m at the Gold Coast where he settled near a pretty good clip and tried hard but couldn’t quite finish it off when second. Has the run under the belt now, gets an ideal run from the gate and despite looking like there’s good depth to this field, happy to be in his corner.
3 Hearts Denied (Bet Now: $4.80) has finished runner up in both career outings and has been pretty solid at each outing. Latest came over 1200m at the Sunny Coast when near the speed and battling away quite well in defeat when second to God Of Mischief with that horse just kicking too well. Bit of depth to this maiden, but he’s hard to beat against this lot.
5 Octavian (Bet Now: $7.00) is a son of Olympic Glory resuming for Kelly Schweida. This guy showed decent ability as a two year old, including a solid sixth behind the well performed Eric The Eel. Trialled back on October 8 at Doomben and looked to move well there. Hasn’t been sighted since, which is a little query, but gets gate one and stable is having a decent run at the moment.
Race 3. (13:42) 3YO Handicap 1600m
Bit of a nothing race this but on top is 3 Nymeria (Bet Now: $10.00), who was relatively unwanted in betting when racing over 1350m in an Ipswich maiden last time out but gee he finished off with real purpose late, savaging the line out wide to get up and score a big win. Off that, he should eat up the 1600m and he looks to have a fair bit more upside than most engaged.
2 Rebel Rock (Bet Now: $5.00) looks the key threat for the Hulbert stable. He ran second in the Purroni race mentioned above and I thought was good in defeat. He attempted to lead all the way and gave a decent enough kick but when Purroni was asked for an effort, the race was over, but Rebel Rock stuck to the task well enough. Likely leads this field up, gives cheek…last bit will test.
1 Accessory (Bet Now: $11.00) is third up for the Guy team and should be close to hard fit now after running over 1350m at Doomben last time when on speed and battling away well to run third to an in form Purroni. Gets gate one this time around and overall, this race is lacking serious, so he’s a threat, but a race I don’t want to get involved in from a betting perspective.
Race 4. (14:32) Colts, Geldings and Entires (C2) 1300m
9 Wounded Soldier (Bet Now: $4.50) hasn’t quite set the world on fire since coming over from NZ, but gee he finds a winnable race here. Comes to Queensland for Kris Lees after racing in NSW, where he last raced at Wyong over 1350m and worked home strongly late to run a close up fourth to the old marvel Isorich in a race which had far more depth than what he faces here. Keen on his chances.
2 Enterprise Moss (Bet Now: $2.30) is a Mick Lakey trained gelding that’s racing really well at the moment. Won in good style two back at Ipswich before racing over 1350m at Doomben and finishing off his race nicely late in the piece to run third. Prefer him at 1400m but gets onto the bigger track now and stable is having a really good run at the moment.
3 The Administrator (Bet Now: $6.50) is suited back in depth for the Stuart Kendrick team. He comes through a 70 race a couple of Saturdays back where he had a reasonable run in transit and was there to loom for a few strides but the class found him out late when midfield behind Macewen, who is flying at the moment. That form does read for a relatively thin Class 2.
Race 5. (15:52) Maiden Handicap 1300m
The Chris Waller stable in Queensland is going terrible at the moment, but I think they’ll have an okay day here at Eagle Farm with Entertainer earlier in the day and here too with 12 Gandiva (Bet Now: $11.00), who had no luck when resuming over 1200m at Doomben, getting stuck wide no cover for the trip and just feeling the pinch late but was good in defeat when a close up fourth to Victory Liner. Better luck here and she can win.
4 Lubuk (Bet Now: $4.20) is one of the hardest to beat for Chris Waller. He raced in QLD as a 2YO in search of a start in the Magic Millions but it didn’t work. Sent to NSW and ran well without winning, the latest a narrow second at Kembla. Now returns to Queensland and finds a very winnable maiden. Just all depends where he gets to in the run from a sticky gate.
A key threat looks to be 7 Topline (Bet Now: $7.00), who comes through the Victory Liner maiden mentioned above. She was ridden for cover from a wide gate and got a suck run on the fence. Got a while to get into her work but she was really good late, poking through to run a narrow third. She did bludge on the fence and had the softer run compared to Gandiva, hence why I’m with the Waller filly, but Topline is a winning chance for sure.
Race 6. (16:32) Class 5 Handicap 1200m
I’ll take a punt on 6 Angel Dane (Bet Now: $5.00) but the market will tell the story to her chances I think because just about every first up run she’s had, the market has somewhat been the best guide, but she did bolt up fresh at Toowoomba last prep when $4-$9. Gets gate one for this assignment with Wiggins to steer and I think her best is clearly good enough to beat these.
Interested to see how 1 La Scopa (Bet Now: $5.00) goes off a freshen up. Contested a pretty decent Class 6 here last time out when on speed and just tiring late when sixth to the in form Enterprise Prince, beaten five lengths. Drops in class/depth, gets the claim for Nick Keal so she’s really well in at the weights. Just a matter of where she gets to from the barrier.
4 It Ain’t All Honey (Bet Now: $35.00) is a son of Real Saga for Desleigh Forster that resumes, having not raced since June 22 in the Tatts Cup when outclassed but far from disgraced behind Vow And Declare, who goes around in the Melbourne Cup as a live chance. Comes here off just one 850m trial, so suspect he’ll need the run, but does have a bit of class on his side.
Race 7. (17:07) Fillies and Mares C2 1300m
6 Lashoni (Bet Now: $3.70) does look one of the hardest to beat for Tony Gollan. This mare won that race mentioned above where she got the suck run behind the speed before angling into clear air late and finished off strongly to get the job done impressively. Draws to get a sweet run in transit once again and with the claim for Nothdurft, can see her being popular.
1 The Black Tide (Bet Now: $3.40) has been pretty good off a freshen up for Steve O’Dea. Won impressively to break the maiden tag two back at the Gold Coast before going to Doomben when on speed and giving a really good kick but couldn’t quite finish it off when a narrow second to Metson. Should get an ideal run in transit from the gate. Last 50m may be the test.
9 Portuguese Tart (Bet Now: $27.00) is the knockout IMO. Loved the way she found the line first up at the Sunny Coast behind Copywriter before going to the Gold Coast where she just got too far back from the wide gate and was never a winning factor but did make ground late. If she can take advantage of gate one, gee I think she’ll run a positive race at big odds.
Race 8. (17:52) Class 1 Handicap 1845m
Good luck here. Lottery. 7 Remuera (Bet Now: $2.35) up in trip interests me. This mare ran over 1350m at Doomben last start when getting a suck run just off the speed before angling into clear and showing a good turn of foot, but just couldn’t quite get the job done. Unknown at this sort of ground, but has a bit of brilliance compared to most of these, and if she runs the trip out, she’s hard to beat.
2 Mullaghmore (Bet Now: $5.00) should be suited up in trip for Kacy Fogden. This four year old resumed over the mile in what was a very slow race, where those in front turned it into a dash home, which didn’t suit this horse at all, but he stuck to the task well enough in defeat. 2000m+ is when he’ll come into his own I suspect, but does have a touch of quality and finds a thin race.
12 Clear Sailing (Bet Now: $26.00) is a mare who took an absolute eternity to break the maiden tag but it finally came last start at Toowoomba when behind the speed before angling into clear air and in a driving go, got the job done. Now she has a win on the board, you’d like to think her confidence is up and this race has no depth, so she doesn’t have to improve too much to be in the finish.
