Nine races will be run and won on the Kensington track at Randwick this Saturday, transferred from Warwick Farm. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:40) Events By ATC Handicap 1150m
Was keen to see Mandela, but he’s not running so I’ll go with the horse he beat in the recent Canterbury trial, 2 Jahbath (Bet Now: $3.90). Hayes/Dabernig team trains this son of Foxwedge with Tom Marquand to steer. He has had two trials to prepare for his debut, winning the first one at Rosehill before going to Canterbury where he didn’t seem entirely happy on the heavy track but battled away well behind Mandela. Looks a decent prospect, firmer footing certainly helps and Marquand has really made an impression since coming to Sydney.
A win here and 1 Hightail (Bet Now: $4.50) is in the Magic Millions. Debuted with a strong win at Kembla before racing on the course proper here last Saturday where he was game in defeat I thought when third to Movie Role. Like him up to 1150m, love Snowden horses on the quick turnaround, good gate, Bowman on…he certainly appeals against these.
4 Twentyfour Carat (Bet Now: $9.00) is a son of I Am Invincible for John O’Shea who is making his debut. He has had three trials to prepare for his first start, the latest coming at Rosehill where he was beaten a fair way behind the tearaway leader, but he looked to move very well and closed off under a good hold. Interesting to see what he does here against this lot.
Race 2. (13:20) Autumn Carnival On Sale Sprint (88) 1150m
Has to carry the weight but hard to get away from 2 Easy Eddie (Bet Now: $1.55). Ran over the 1200m at Warwick Farm a fortnight ago where I thought he did a really good job to get the win given he was on speed throughout and the last 150m, he was there to be beaten, but found plenty late to get the win. 2/2 third up and I think there’s improvement left in the tank from last time.
6 Intuition (Bet Now: $4.20) is a well bred son of Street Cry for James Cummings who resumed in the Easy Eddie race from two weeks ago and while he was never going to win in the run, I think he should have finished much closer, getting held up late to run seventh, beaten three lengths. The trial leading in was quite encouraging so have to give him another chance.
5 Mapmaker (Bet Now: $6.50) four weeks between runs and back to 1200m interests me. He ran in the Irithea race over 1400m at Rosehill and it was a very ugly watch if you were on, with the gelding getting little to no luck in the straight when seemingly having something to offer. He has a really good record at 1200m and is a tough, tough animal. Does he have the zip in the legs?
Race 3. (13:55) TAB Highway Handicap (Class 3) 1300m
Matty Dunn rarely gets it wrong when he brings them for the Highway and I think he can get another one added to his name via the talented four year old mare 1 La Scopa (Bet Now: $2.00). She was tested to be an Oaks filly in the Brisbane Winter but didn’t run the trip out. Been kept to the shorter trips this time in and she’s loving it, last start running a narrow second over 1200m at Eagle Farm. 1300m at Randwick looks ideal and she has a touch of class.
2 Elegant Ellen (Bet Now: $8.50) should be respected for Richard Clarke. Far from disgraced in a Rosehill Highway two back behind Carillon before being given a month freshen up and leading all the way at Moruya, showing really good grit in the straight because she was challenged but found plenty and drew clear late. Think she’ll land on speed and give her all.
6 Dutchess Moshe (Bet Now: $9.00) is a definite watch. Talented mare that resumes for the Joseph/Jones stable and she is 2/2 when produced first up. Has only run once in town which was at Canterbury but found a bog track and didn’t fire. Thought her Canberra trial was more than encouraging and the time for that trial was pretty good so I don’t think fitness will be an excuse.
Race 4. (14:30) 2019 Membership Handicap (72) 1300m
10 Nindamos (Bet Now: $5.50) looks a nice prospect for James Cummings and I’m confident he can measure up to these. He was a hard fav when debuting over 1350m at Wyong and despite settling off the pace in a tricky spot, Josh Parr managed to get the well bred gelding clear air and he put them away like a good horse. Form has been franked, should be suited on the bigger track and appeals big time here.
9 Sure Knee (Bet Now: $3.60) should just about be ready to show her best third up from a spell. She really struggled on the bottomless surface first up behind The Art Of The Bar at Warwick Farm and racing there again where she was much better when fourth to Gongs. On top of the ground will be interesting because she is bred to swim but hasn’t really fired on wet ground.
2 Botti (Bet Now: $11.00) is a fascinating runner. Formerly with the Baker/Forsman stable but is now with Chris Waller, with eyes potentially towards a Derby. He hasn’t raced since the Vase on Cox Plate Day when down the track behind Stars Of Carrum but by then he was a tired horse. Thought he trialled up really well at Canterbury and is a definite yard/market watch.
Race 5. (15:05) Tab.com.au Handicap (78) 1300m
I think third up, back on firmer footing, I want to give 1 Sweet Scandal (Bet Now: $5.00) another chance. Desperately unlucky first up behind Demerara at Rosehill before going to Randwick where she looked a touch flat when fifth to Star Reflection. I am happy to forgive last start because she does have credits in the bank and I am hoping for a sharp third up bounce back.
2 Charlayne (Bet Now: $11.00) is a Chris Waller trained mare who was first up off a bleeding attack in the Star Reflection race from three weeks ago at Randwick. She got too far back in the run and never really looked likely but was more than sound at the end, beaten just over four lengths. Think she’ll take good improvement from that and at her best she can certainly beat these.
10 Oakfield Missile (Bet Now: $101.00) is absolutely airborne this prep for Damien Lane. Tough on speed winner first up at Newcastle over 1200m before dropping back to 900m, which was never the ideal set up, she got back and worked home strongly to run fourth. Like her back up in trip, she should be somewhere near the speed and first up she showed fight when challenged.
Race 6. (15:40) The Aviary @ Randwick Handicap (78) 1300m
Hard to get away from 5 Poetic Charmer (Bet Now: $4.00), who is in career best form at the moment. He has won his past two, the latest win being over 1400m at Warwick Farm when sitting wide with cover before peeling wider and unleashing a lovely finale to win, and the form out of that has been franked via Thy Kingdom Come. Back 100m in trip no issue and is one of the hardest to beat.
9 Skyray (Bet Now: $5.00) is two weeks between runs for Clarry Conners since racing over 1300m at Gongs where he got back in the ruck but made up good ground late in what was a bunched finish won by Gongs. He hasn’t been quite the same horse since his electric first up win but last start, the signs are there that maybe he isn’t far off another win.
8 Zidane (Bet Now: $14.00) looks to be flying this time in for Lauri Wray. Surprise first up winner at Canterbury at massive odds before racing at Randwick on Boxing Day where he was a little unlucky not to finish closer when second to the talented Connemara. Now third up and the way he’s racing at the moment, he has to be respected despite the depth increase.
Race 7. (16:20) Kensington Handicap 1550m
Giving 9 Gresham (Bet Now: $2.10) one more chance. On face value, I was disappointed with his finale last Saturday over the course proper mile behind Tip Top. He had the suck run in behind, presented at the right time, looked all over, but he couldn’t finish. Think he’ll get the sweet drag up via Sir Plush and with 49kg, I think he’s one of the better bets on the card but it’s nearing last chance territory.
2 Invinzabeel (Bet Now: $6.00) clearly a threat for mine. Mark Newnham has this bloke now, formerly with Chris Waller. Had his first run for the stable over 1400m at Warwick Farm a fortnight ago where he was wide throughout on the bog, something he doesn’t like, but he battled away really well when fourth to Sir Bacchus. Looks to be flying and up to the mile on firmer ground, I’m keen on him running well.
7 Sayed (Bet Now: $46.00) could be an improver at odds. He had his first run for Matty Dale in the Sir Bacchus race at Warwick Farm from two weeks ago where he looked big in condition and ran accordingly behind the grey. Better suited here I think and the trial prior was way too good to ignore off one forgive run. Not sure he can win, but a must for exotics for mine.
Race 8. (17:00) Summer Racing Sprint (78) 1000m
She’s hard to trust, but the way 8 Rebel Miss (Bet Now: $6.50) has been trialling, she’s worth an each way ticket in a tough race. Has won just the four from 23 but the way she has travelled in the run, she should have won a few more races. She can be hard to trust, but is a very good mare on the fresh side, likes racing just off the pace, which should be genuine here, and the trials have been great.
He’s a hard horse to catch but this race does set up for 3 RevenireΒ (Bet Now: $5.50) to run well. He ran second to Heart Conquered a fortnight ago at Warwick Farm and battled away well on the wet track behind the speedster. Much better suited on firmer footing for mine, he draws to park off a hot speed and I think he’ll be strong late provided he gets clear air.
7 Difficult To Get (Bet Now: $10.00) should be much better suited on firmer footing. Resumed at the Warwick Farm 1000m a fortnight back on a bog and she couldn’t pick her feet up when fourth to the noted swimmer Heart Conquered. I think on top of the ground, she’ll run a much better race and can perform well second up. Definite leading contender against these.
Race 9. (17:40) ATC Handicap (78) 1550m
13 Toroso (Bet Now: $7.00) looks one of the better gambles on the program for mine. Been great in two runs back from a spell for Team Snowden, the latest on the Kensington track where he was off the bit before the turn and going nowhere when Thy Kingdom Come sprinted, but he picked up and was more than sound late to run third. Up to the mile, third up, he appeals big time.
11 Super Star Bob (Bet Now: $3.80) is ticking over really well for Matty Dale. Has had four runs back from a break and has finished runner up at his past two, the latest over 1400m at Randwick three weeks ago when beaten narrowly by Penske. He hasn’t won in over a year and has had chances to change that. He gets another one here…I prefer to watch than back him to win.
5 Our Gravano (Bet Now: $19.00) is a Kris Lees trained galloper who is having his second prep for Kris. Promised a fair bit in the first campaign but couldn’t quite get the job done. Resumed in the Mudgee Cup and while he never looked likely, his run in defeat wasn’t too bad. Think he wants further now, but if they go hard in front, I’m sure he’ll be strong late.
