31/5/2014 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Sandown, Australian Hurdle day

Sandown will host Victoria’s feature race meeting on Saturday were we see the running of two very good jumps races those being the Australian Hurdle and the Australian Steeplechase. We take a look at each of the eight races on the card and give our tips which always provide a ton of value for punters.

Race One (11:35AM ) : Samson Handicap (1400 METRES) Form Guide

Back Me: Lucky Generation (Best Odds: $3.80) opened at relatively short odds at Caulfield last start before drifting in the market but despite the drift i thought his run was very good. I think he will improve with the extra distance on Saturday and having race experience and added fitness will also help his chances. If he can settle and get in from the barrie i think he is the horse to beat in the race.
Big Danger: Devil’s Harmony (Best Odds: $5.50) was very impressive at Sandown on debut when she hit the line strongly to post a good win. She looks a type that will improve with more distance which she gets here and she drops in weight from that run. She finds a tougher race on Saturday but i still expect her to be hard to beat.
Roughie: Escamillo (Best Odds: $18.00) was sent out well in the market on debut in a very good race at Flemington where he led and weakened earlier than expected. I think he will be much better for that run and with race fitness and experience i think he can bounce back on Saturday and be right in the finish.

Race Two (12:10PM) : Jim Conway Handicap (1200 METRES)  Form Guide

Back Me: Pillar Of Creation (Best Odds: $3.30) was very good last start running listed winner General Peekay to within a length and a half. If he can come out and produce a similar run on Saturday i think he will be very hard to beat against this field. He has drawn the inside barrier which will mean he will need a bit of luck but if he gets it at the right time he will be winning.
Big Danger: Lonrockstar (Best Odds: $5.00) is a lightly raced galloper who has shown a ton of potential. He goes up in class here but he also drops 6kg in weight which will be a massive advantage on Saturday and from barrier 2 he will be able to get an easy run throughout and will be hitting the line hard late.
Roughie: Post D’France (Best Odds: $21.00) will be running over an unsuitable trip on Saturday although he has quite a good first up record which is why he is in my tips. He has a lot of class about him over the rest of the runners in the field and he can race handy and will be doing his best work late.

Race Three (12:50PM) : The Australian Steeplechase (3400 METRES)  Form Guide

Back Me: Cats Fun (Best Odds: $3.30) is such a gallant jumper who rarely puts in a bad run. His last start run behind Palmero was very good in the Brierly Steeple and that looks to be the best form race going into this. He has placed on fourteen occasions from twenty one occasions so he is always there abouts and can’t be left out.
Big Danger: Krase (Best Odds: $3.60) showed his true potential last start when winning by a big margin over the jumps. The race before that he was sent out as a short priced chance where he bled so that run has to have a line through it. He will get the distance, he is experienced over the jumps and Patrick Payne will have him ready to go on Saturday.
Roughie: King Triton (Best Odds: $13.00) hasn’t really found form in his last few races but last preparation he showed he can be very good on his day. If he can return to his best he will be tough to beat but we haven’t seen that in awhile so im not sure we will see it on Saturday. Include for a bit of value but the favourites look to have this race.

Race Four (1:30PM) : The Australian Hurdle (3400 METRES)  Form Guide

Back Me: Fieldmaster (Best Odds: $2.00) was ultra impressive winning over the jumps last start at Sandown by 20L on the line at just his third try over them. It is scary but he will improve from that run and he will be the horse the field will need to beat as whoever finishes in front of him will be winning.
Big Danger: Gotta Take Care (Best Odds: $3.00) looks the only danger to the short priced favourite ‘Fieldmaster’. He has been racing in career best form this preparation and he put in another very good run at Flemington last start in the Andrew Ramsden Stakes. Im not sure he has the brilliance that Fieldmaster has but he will always give his best and if the favourite slips up he will be able to take advantage, they look the obvious quinella in the race.
Roughie: Maythehorsebemagic (Best Odds: $21.00) won three jumps races in a row at the end of last preparation so he must be kept safe although i am not sure he has the ability of the two horses in the market. He is the one for a bit of value in the race but a win would certainly surprise, place chance.

Race Five (2:10PM) : Le Pine Funerals Plate (1600 METRES)  Form Guide

Back Me: Darney Gub (Best Odds: $17.00) has led and been contested throughout at her last two starts so to see her sticking on as well as she did in both races shows she has plenty of ability and heart. I think the step up to 1600m will definitely suit her has she will be able to settle and dictate the race and give a big kick early in the straight and make those in the market catch her. The form around her has been franked with Search Squad running a big race at Flemington last start.
Big Danger: Griante (Best Odds: $4.80) has won her last two starts impressively and she looks like she still has plenty of improvement left in her. She drops slightly in weight from last start and she has drawn a perfect barrier to give her an easy run throughout. She is proven at the distance and will take a lot of running down.
Roughie: I had Miss Maggiebeel (Best Odds: $9.00) rated on top at Flemington on Saturday but she again missed the jump which cost her any chance in the race. She wasn’t really pressured in that race hence why they have decided to back her up at Sandown and if she can get away with the field i think she is the horse to beat but her barrier manors make it hard to back her.

Race Six (2:50PM) : Sportingbet Best Tote Plus 5% Handicap (1400 METRES)  Form Guide

Back Me: Kingdom Of Dreams (Best Odds: $12.00) is a very talented galloper which was shown when winning at Terang by 7 lengths albeit in weaker class. He backed that up with a solid win at Bendigo but then failed at Flemington last start but im happy to put that down to the track condition. He finds a very winnable race on Saturday and the double figure odds look very good as an each way bet in this race.
Big Danger: Adirondack (Best Odds: $7.00) has opened at a very good price in betting and i think we will see the quote shorten quite a lot before start time. His form reads very well with good runs around quality gallopers. He finds an okay race on Saturday but it is certainly winnable for him and there looks to be a ton of value in the race and he is one of the better valued runners. Can be backed each way and looks the main danger.
Roughie: Silent Saga (Best Odds: $101.00) is likely to jump at massive odds in this race with his last two runs being pretty poor. Before those two he put in a very good run at Bendigo and if he can return to that kind of form i think he is a big chance at a knockout quote in the betting and could add value to multiple bets and quaddies.

Race Seven (3:30PM) : TVN Handicap (2400 METRES)  Form Guide

Back Me: Sacred Flyer (Best Odds: $9.50) i’ve had on top in his last two runs which were against much tougher competition than what he meets on Saturday so once again i have him on top. Despite not figuring in his last two starts i thought they were both relatively good runs and the step up in distance will definitely see him improve. He will have to carry a big weight but i think on class he will be tough to beat here.
Big Danger: Second King (Best Odds: $13.00) drops 5kg on his last start run at Warrnambool where he wasn’t beaten far in a similar quality race to this one so with less weight and likely a firmer track he will be the biggest danger to our on top selection.
Roughie: Perplexity (Best Odds: $8.00) hasn’t really fired this preparation but the increase in distance i feel will see him run a much better race. He is a lightly raced galloper who has plenty of good racing ahead of him and i think this will be the testing material for him and his partnership with Chris Waller. I think the connections have found a race which they can win and probably have to win to press on in a city stable.

Race Eight (4:10PM) : Le Pine Funerals Handicap (1600 METRES)  Form Guide

Back Me: Onpicalo (Best Odds: $2.15) did a lot of work early in the race and then was tackled mid way through the race so for him to only be beaten the distance he was very surprisingly and credited his ability. He finds a weaker race on Saturday and he gets into the weights extremely well. He will roll to the front and if he can dictate which i think he can they wont be able to beat him.
Big Danger: Mighty Like (Best Odds: $4.00) goes into this race having won his last three starts including an impressive victory at Morphettville last start by three lengths on the line. He has a very good winning strike rate, he gets into the weights well and he has a win over the distance from the one start so he definitely looks the danger in the race.
Roughie: Spacecraft (Best Odds: $8.50) is such an honest galloper you can’t leave him out against a field like this. He will have to carry the top weight and jumps from an awkward barrier but back on top of the ground i think we will see a much improved run on Saturday and at around the double figure quote he looks great value.
