Race 1. (12:05) Sportsbet Race Replays (Bm84) 1400m
3 Sassy Boom (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks ready to rock and roll fresh. Danny O’Brien trained mare that resumes, having not raced since the Adelaide Guineas at Morphettville when placing behind Poifect in a good effort. She has been a standout in recent jumpouts, notably her Kilmore jumpout when jogging near the speed. Like her a lot here.
4 Lovazou (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one of the leading contenders. She got the win a fortnight back here, getting a peach by Hefel, getting the suck run before getting clear and savaged the line late to win. Bit more depth here, but hard to knock the way she’s racing at present.
8 Street Delight (Bet Now: $SP.00) commands respect for me. Her run was very good in defeat a few weeks ago at Flemington, getting back in a slowly run race but her finale was more than sound in defeat behind Justdoit. Think with a more genuine tempo here, she’ll take beating.
Race 2. (12:35) Stow Robotics (Bm78) 1400m
13 Step Aside (Bet Now: $SP.00) should prove hard to beat for Chris Waller. Four weeks between runs since racing over the mile at Flemington when off speed and was good late in the piece behind the very much in form Rise At Dawn, who won again next start so the form does read well and back to 78 grade, he appeals.
12 Craig (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes here off a freshen up for Busuttin/Young, his latest run being on July 6 at Flemington when placing behind Justadeel after getting back in the run. Trial earlier this week was quite good and I dare say he has eyes on a race like the Golden Eagle, so keen to see how he goes.
6 Regardsmaree (Bet Now: $SP.00) is capable with his best. Nick Ryan trained gelding that ran two weeks back at this track/distance. He got back in the run and in a race dominated by the front half of the field, he was never really a factor, finishing down the track behind Running By. Been a while since he has produced his best, but he’s definitely good enough with a forward showing.
Race 3. (13:10) Evergreen Turf (Bm78) 1800m
15 Whisky On The Hill (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an Irish stayer who is having his second prep down under and I think he’s in for a good campaign based on his return over the mile at The Valley a few weeks back. He got a fair way out of his ground and his finale, despite not threatening, was quite good. Might want one more and 2400m+, but off the return, he commands respect.
14 Big Story (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1800m for the Price/Kent camp. Three weeks between runs since racing over the mile at The Valley. He got back and wide in the run, but made up some headway and was solid enough in defeat behind Aspen Colorado. Has placed at this trip previously and the depth, as a whole, isn’t overly deep.
6 Flossing (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for Busuttin/Young, having not raced since July 24 at Sandown when near the speed but didn’t fire a shot and was a bit on the plain side late in the piece behind Mathew. His best is more than good enough to beat this lot so watch the market.
Race 4. (13:45) Quayclean Hcp 2000m
11 Alder (Bet Now: $SP.00), I think, is the straight bat play. Busuttin/Young trained galloper that ran three weeks ago at The Valley. He got off speed and was chasing, but he kept finding and was good in defeat behind Point King. Hard fit now, can settle much closer in the run and gets J Kah to steer.
2 Duke De Sessa (Bet Now: $SP.00) commands respect. Ciaron Maher trains this guy, who ran a few weeks back at The Valley and you can make a case to say he should have won, getting badly held up behind tiring horses when having plenty up the sleeve so forgive and forget. I think he is working up to a win and it could easily come here.
6 Okita Soushi (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one of the more fascinating runners across the meeting. Ciaron Maher trained galloper that makes his debut for the stable after racing in the Melbourne Cup where he ran a beauty in defeat after getting back. His jumpout work suggests he will need at least 2000m, but he does have class/quality.
Race 5. (14:20) Vale Black Caviar 1100m
2 Recommendation (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes here with relatively fresh legs for Ciaron Maher after leading throughout and spanking them in the Bletchingly. Don’t think he beat a great deal but the manner in which he put them away was very impressive. Tick over jumpout was quite good and he loves Caulfield.
6 Nettuno (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Tony Gollan trained sprinter that resumes. He comes here a couple of months between runs since racing at the Sunny Coast when looking to be struggling on a bog but the last 200m, he sprouted wings late to win and win well. Jumped out well last week at Cranbourne and I say comes here with intent.
7 Marble Nine (Bet Now: $SP.00) is terribly in at the weights but he is a four year old on the up for Team Corstens. He ran third behind Recommendation in the Bletchingly and while held, he didn’t disgrace himself at all. Loved his recent jumpout and is a must for exotics.
Race 6. (14:55) Mcneil Stakes 1200m
1 Growing Empire (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be ready to rock and roll. The Ciaron Maher trained three year old that resumes, having not raced since the Adelaide Carnival where he made an absolute mess of them in the Breeders at Morphettville and looked a jet. He has been given a decent spell and his recent jumpout last week at Cranbourne was very good. Hard to beat.
4 Astapor (Bet Now: $SP.00) will put himself on speed and give cheek at odds. He did that in the Rosebud and gave a sight from the front but couldn’t quite see it through when fourth to impressive winner Gatsby’s. Not sure he is good enough to win but similar to last time, can pinch top four.
6 Wonder Boy (Bet Now: $SP.00) will love the rise to 1200m. He ran two weeks back in the Vain where he was tardy away and at the 1100m, that sealed his fate, but I really liked the way he found the line late in the piece. Fitter and up to 1200m, he will be stronger than most at the end and can threaten for sure.
Race 7. (15:30) Cockram Stakes 1200m
5 Comrade Rosa (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks ready to rock and roll for Tony Gollan. She hasn’t raced since the Tatts Tiara where she was outclassed but far from disgraced in defeat behind Bella Nipotina. Loved the way she trucked in a Cranbourne jumpout last week and with residual fitness, she appeals big time as an each way bet.
1 Quintessa (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a quality mare for Te Akau that resumes. She was very good when last in work, ending the campaign with a strong fourth in the ATC Oaks behind Autumn Angel. Better suited over further, but she has shown quality as a sprinter in the past and overall, this isn’t a deep race.
16 Aviatress (Bet Now: $SP.00) creates interest. Team Jolly trained mare that I think should have won at Morphettville Parks two weeks ago. Just copped a nasty check early on in the race, lost her spot and I think that is what lost her the race when second to Lingani. I think hard fit now, up to 1200m, bigger track, she commands some level of respect.
Race 8. (16:10) Heatherlie Stakes 1700m
3 Banker’s Choice (Bet Now: $SP.00) has returned really well I feel and up in trip, fitter, gee I think he’ll run a big race. He resumed in the PB Lawrence where he was just run off his legs but I really liked the way he warmed to the task late in the piece behind Gentleman Roy. Much better set up here and with class on his side, he’s going to run a beauty.
13 Rise At Dawn (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a beauty for Team Hayes and rates highly. He won over the mile here two weeks ago, getting a decent enough run in transit on speed and looked to be trucking before being clicked up and he found under pressure to win. Extra 100m is no issue, good racing style, hard fit and in form, rates highly.
1 Munhamek (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to be given another look for Nick Ryan. He ran two weeks back in the PB Lawrence when wide no cover throughout, chasing the genuine tempo, and the hard run just told late in the piece behind Gentleman Roy. Think with a better run in transit, he’s dangerous for sure.
Race 9. (16:45) Memsie Stakes 1400m
7 Pride Of Jenni (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a star mare and I think she’s here to rock and roll. She was the find last season, going from a good solid mare to being a top class, out of this world mare, with her jump/run racing style bringing in new race fans to the track, her Queen Elizabeth win being memorable. She has looked outstanding in jumpout work at Cranbourne, she’ll lead and take a power of beating.
1 Mr Brightside (Bet Now: $SP.00) was a superb winner of this race last year and commands respect. He would have hated seeing the back of Pride Of Jenni in the Autumn, but despite being held by that mare more often than not, he was so game in defeat, including the Queen Elizabeth. His jumpout work has been strong enough to say he’ll run a beauty here.
3 Gentleman Roy (Bet Now: $SP.00) went within a lip of winning a Group l last year and he is the one here who is treating this as a Grand Final. Loved the ticker he showed to win the PB Lawrence. Yes, can argue Pinstriped should have beaten him, but this guy really dug in when required. Good racing style and he looks as though he’ll love the race shape Pride Of Jenni will provide.
Race 10. (17:20) Sportsbet Same Race Multi (Bm100) 1400m
2 Another Wil (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one of the more fascinating runners on the card. I think he’s a star and could be a force in the Cups. He resumes after a fab Autumn, which ended with a massive effort in defeat in the Doncaster, perhaps going to the well one too many times but he was incredible. He’s bred to eat up 2400m+ but has shown to be so sharp at this distance range. Hard to beat and confident he’ll be winning a big race this Spring.
1 Here To Shock (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks ready to rock and roll fresh for Team Hayes, a stable that is humming this prep. He had a fab Autumn/Winter, which ended with a down the track effort in the Stradbroke but was a tired horse and it looked an end of prep run. He loves the track/distance and was humming on speed in a Flemington jumpout last week.
3 Coco Sun (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a quality mare for Team McEvoy that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since the SA Derby when given a 12/10 by J Kah and in a driving go, finished best to win. Jumpout work has been encouraging and although better suited over further, she has class.
