31/7/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Morphettvillle, Lightning Stakes day

Nine races will be run and won at Morphettville this Saturday where it is Lightning Stakes Day. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is heavy (8) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

11 Samurai Sun (Bet Now: $5.00) on top. Will Clarken trained filly that is gradually getting better with each run under the belt, her two career runs being more than encouraging, both coming over 1000m at Murray Bridge. She can land in a good spot from the draw and has an in form Todd Pannell to steer.

5 Italian Viking (Bet Now: $1.95) is a son of Street Boss on debut for the McEvoy camp. In a last ditch effort to win the title, the stable is bringing over some nice cattle to Adelaide, including this guy it appears based on sharp recent jumpout work. If he brings that here, he’ll take beating.

6 Self Sufficient (Bet Now: $5.50) is a son of Rich Enuff for Jon O’Connor that resumes. This three year old hasn’t raced since March 27 when down the track and looking for the paddock. He has shown promise throughout his career without winning, so will be interesting to see how he goes.

Fitter and up in trip I do like for 4 Reynolds (Bet Now: $2.80). Michael Hickmott trained gelding that resumed two weeks back on the Parks track. He loomed large to win on the testing ground but first up, hid condition just gave way late. Bolted in second up last prep and up in trip, he appeals.

3 Dominus (Bet Now: $3.30) is a Phillip Stokes trained gelding that is in a purple patch at the moment. Confident aggressive steer from Pannell saw him bolt up on the Parks track two weeks ago, bolting up in a strong display. Harder here, but confident he can run well again.

8 Motell (Bet Now: $6.50) isn’t far off a win I feel for Jon O’Connor. Ran over 1550m on the Parks track a fortnight back and tried hard from off the speed, but just no match for the performance produced by Dominus. He’s racing well and is nearing a win. It could well come here.

I like 8 Muffla (Bet Now: $17.00) here. He’s a working progress for Peter Blanch and hard fit now, up to 1500m, he appeals. Ran over 1300m on the Parks track two weeks ago and closed off strongly late from near last in the run when third to Great Diviner. Like him up in trip and got more upside than most.

5 Blah Blah Blah (Bet Now: $10.00) has done little wrong in his four run career to date for Ryan Balfour. Latest run came a fortnight back on the Parks track over 1300m. Got back in the run from the inside gate and worked to the line well without threatening behind Great Diviner. Definite winning chance.

The weather and track rating will determine how strong the winning claims of 2 Victory Club (Bet Now: $13.00) are. He ran on the Parks track a fortnight ago behind Great Diviner and really struggled on the bog surface. I think if we get a drying deck, he comes into play as a knockout chance.

I’ll take a chance with 8 Yulong Phelps (Bet Now: $2.00), who resumes for Danny O’Brien. Was with the Hayes/Dabernig team, where they debuted this horse at Swan Hill back in October and he gave them a spanking in what has turned out to be a red hot maiden with five winners to come from it. Jumped out well leading in and I think he’s above average.

1 Kayseri (Bet Now: $8.00) is three weeks between runs for the Jolly camp since racing at Gawler where he did a bit of work to get on speed and tired late when down the track behind Smart Alick. Saves his best for the course proper here and a return to somewhere near his best sees him around the mark.

5 Jyoti (Bet Now: $8.50) is a Team McEvoy filly that hasn’t exactly gone on with it since her juvenile season but is capable of running a positive race here. Sat on speed three weeks ago at Gawler and battled on well in defeat when third to It’s Kind Of Magic. Not sure she wins, but a first three prospect.

4 Clever Man (Bet Now: $4.00) is flying for Trevor White and confident he can measure up. He spanked them over this trip at Murray Bridge last time out. Admittedly had a suck run behind the speed but still had to take advantage of it and that he did in a dominant display. Runs up to that effort here, he’ll go close.

1 Lord Bouzeron (Bet Now: $3.10) is on the seven day back up for Michael Hickmott after racing here last Saturday. He attempted to lead throughout in testing conditions and tried hard, but was no match for a very much in form Mahis Angel. He has reacted positively on the back up before and the depth here isn’t as strong as last weekend.

5 Exalted Ambition (Bet Now: $10.00) is on the seven dnay back up for Grant Young. He ran here last Saturday in the Mahis Angel race where it was an absolute slog, survival of the fittest, and that Doudle runner was indeed the fittest, but this guy kept chipping away. Not sure he wins, but a must for multiples.

3 Denero (Bet Now: $2.70) looks the one to beat. Victorian raider that has been excellent in two runs back from a spell, each coming over the mile at Flemington, the latest seeing him close off well in an open handicap at Flemington. Like him up to 1800m and the depth is clearly not as strong.

1 Master Chum (Bet Now: $6.50) gets the Bar Plates off, so reading between the lines, his feet should be okay, and he does have a bit on these re class given he is a Stakes winner from last year. Recent runs in Melbourne have been solid enough and if he handles coming back to 1800m, he can be dangerous.

6 Dr Dependable (Bet Now: $10.00) isn’t far off a win for the Macdonald/Gluyas camp. Ran over 2100m at Gawler three weeks ago and whacked away gamely in what turned out to be survival of the fittest, won by Mahis Angel, who won last Saturday to frank the form. Hard to beat.

11 He’s A Balter (Bet Now: $8.50) is a Will Clarken trained galloper that has done little wrong in recent times. Thought it was a lovely steer by Pannell to get him home a few weeks back at Murray Bridge, sitting back, wide with cover, before edging wider and unleashing a powerful finale to get the job done. Hard to beat if he’s within range.

2 Brimarvi Vehereo (Bet Now: $6.00) is racing in solid form for Sam Burford. Good second to Larimer Street two back. Then had six or so weeks off and ran two weeks ago on the Parks track when a closing narrow second to Star Hills, a Stakes performer, so that reads well for this, and he’s got upside.

10 Aadelad (Bet Now: $9.50) has done little wrong this time in for the Francis/Kent camp. Strong win in the mud at this track/distance two back. Then went to the Parks track when wide throughout but kept finding the line when third to Star Hills. Back on the course proper, he can take this out.

6 Esta La Roca (Bet Now: $5.50) is a beauty for the Lloyd Kennewell camp that will put herself on speed and give her all. That was the case several weeks ago at Caulfield where she was on speed and copping pressure, but she kept finding under pressure and was only nabbed late by Malkovich. That form reads well for this. Just needs to stretch her brilliance to 1050m at this level.

3 Larimer Street (Bet Now: $27.00) is getting to peak fitness now fourth up from a break and on a firmer deck, he can be a big improver. Market said he wouldn’t handle the heavy track at Morphettville a few weeks ago and it was proven correct. Thought he had his chance but he couldn’t quicken in the testing conditions. Better suited here I feel and he can bounce back.

I’ll take a chance in including 4 Kong (Bet Now: $61.00), who resumes for Ryan Balfour. Son of Jungle Ruler that had a two run prep in the Autumn to start his career. Solid in defeat on debut on the Parks track before finding a heavy track at Kilmore and bolting up. Liked his recent jumpout here in solid time and finds a winnable race.

10 Noname Lane (Bet Now: $4.80) is a key threat for me. Will Clarken trained four year old that was backed with real confidence when resuming four weeks ago at Murray Bridge in a maiden and the market got it spot on. He took a little while to get into his work but gee he was strong late when letting down and impressive. He can go on with it.

4 Extra Mile (Bet Now: $6.00) is a query at 1200m, but he does drop a fair bit in grade/depth after racing in a 2MW race at Gawler three weeks ago where he got back against the track pattern and was solid late behind impressive winner Maha, running third. Hard to beat if he sees out the six furlongs.

6 Miss Jane (Bet Now: $17.00) is racing well at the moment and is a key chance off her last start. That last run was over 1200m at Murray Bridge where they rode her cold off the speed and she found the line quite well when a close up fourth to a handy horse, Pindaric. If she gets an economical run, she’ll be around the mark.

NEXT BEST: Race Six Number 3 Denero

LONG SHOT: Race Three Number 8 Muffla
