A bumper card of racing has been set down for Eagle Farm on Saturday, headlined by the two majors, the Queensland Derby (2400m) and Kingsford Smith Cup (1300m). Weather forecast is for showers, track is soft (6) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (11:43) Kilcoy Global Foods Hcp (C6) 1600m
8 Anemacore (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is two weeks between runs since contesting the Chairmans at Doomben where he found the 2000m on a sticky track not to his liking and he was never really a factor behnd Sir Delius. Much better suited in a race like this and his best is clearly good enough.
7 Demon Darb (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) commands respect for Rob Heathcoate. He ran third to Fukubana a fortnight back at Doomben. He had a soft run in transit from the inside gate and did try hard but had no answers to reel in Fukubana. Good record at Eagle Farm, he can bounce back.
9 Sizzling Gal (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran down the track behind Fukubana two weeks back at Doomben. She got off speed and was never really a threat. That said, she was far from disgraced in defeat I thought. Not sure she is good enough to win but can run top four.
Race 2. (12:18) The Star (Bm78) 1400m
8 Redzoust (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is several weeks between runs for Rex Lipp since racing over 1400m at Eagle Farm when off speed and he tried hard but was no match late for impressive winner Tavs. Fresh legs is fine and this isn’t an overly strong contest.
2 Deep Respect (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness for Kelly Schweida. He just missed first up here behind Ser Joh before going to Doomben where not much went his way so I want to be forgiving of his run behind Super Duck. Hard fit, can settle closer, he takes beating.
13 Starry Eyes (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is capable with his best. He ran behind Super Duck two weeks back at Doomben where he did early work from the wide gate and that burn just told late in the piece. More economical run in transit, he can threaten at odds.
Race 3. (12:53) Queen Elizabeth Ii Cup 2400m
Really good test here for 15 Dillian (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) but I am confident he can measure up, and I dare say there is intent here given he needs a big ratings bump if they want to head to The Q22. He hasn’t raced since April 26 where he made an absolute mess of them over this track/distance, making it 2/2 for the Hulbert camp. He has always showed promise so keen to see how he goes at this level.
10 Manzoice (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a one batter so 2400m here is ideal for him after racing a fortnight back in the Chairmans. He tried to make a sustained run from the back and while he was held, he stayed on and was sound in defeat behind Sir Delius.
11 Strathtay (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is ticking along beautifully towards the Brisbane Cup. He comes through the Chairmans where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, his finale was very good I thought. Has eyes on the two miles but off that last start effort, he’s right in the mix.
Race 4. (13:28) Lord Mayor's Cup 1800m
There are better horses than 3 Banker’s Choice (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) in this race but I do think he is great value. He has won two on the bounce, the latest coming in the Mornington Cup where he found plenty under pressure to fend them off and win. Tick over trial was strong, back to 2000m is fine and should handle any give in the track.
1 Tavi Time (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) clearly rates highly for Kris Lees off the back of his Scone Cup triumph. Admittedly he was given a 12/10 ride by Jay Ford but even allowing for that, he was dominant in the run to the line. Like him up to 1800m and does get J Mac on board.
4 Brookhaven (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is one of the leading contenders after his Bernborough win. He had the suck run in behind and looked the winner a long way out. Just a matter of getting clear and once that eventuated, away he went to win and win well. He can win again.
Race 5. (14:03) Brc Sires' Produce Stakes 1400m
I have been on 1 Grafterburners (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) for this race and the JJ Atkins, and after the Spirit Of Boom, I am more confident. His return there was incredible given he was four and five wide for the trip but he kept finding the line in defeat behind Cool Archie. Fitter, 1400m, bigger track…very keen.
2 Gallo Nero (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a key threat. He resumed in the Spirit Of Boom where he got a mile out of his ground but he tracked up before presenting wider and finished off quite strongly in defeat behind Cool Archie. Better set up here, he appeals.
11 Kaleo (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks a very promising juvenile for Ciaron Maher. He was such a sharp winner at Caulfield last time, giving them a start and a beating in an electric performance. He’ll eat up a truly run 1400m and has that sense of timing to say he can win.
Race 6. (14:38) Fred Best Classic 1400m
2 Angel Capital (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. Chris Waller trains this former Clinton McDonald runner, who is now with Waller after being scratched prior to the Australian Guineas. He is a very good horse when right and I am convinced he’ll be a gun 1200m/1400m horse in time. Trial work has been elite, he looks ready to rock and roll…keen.
15 El Morzillo (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a quality filly for Kelly Schweida and is one of the hard to beat after her win a fortnight back where she was ridden like the best horse in the race and duly saluted to win narrowly but impressively. Only has to hold her form and she’ll take beating here en route to the Stradbroke.
5 Pisces (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is getting towards D Day and whether he is a contender or pretender. He ran two weeks back at Doomben where I thought he was a good thing but for mine, I thought he was a bit on the plain side late in the piece behind El Morzillo. Hard fit, big track, 1400m, he gets his chance.
Race 7. (15:13) Kingsford Smith Cup 1300m
Keen to be with 13 Bosustow (Bet Now:Β $SP.00). He is the fresh blood. I thought he was none in the Gold Coast Guineas given how he dipped and dived on the wet track in the trial leading in, so to me, the way he won tells me he has come back in beast mode and his Stradbroke berth is assured. It’s time to have a crack at Group l grade and he’s already proven at this level.
10 Joliestar (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for Chris Waller, having not raced since the All Aged Stakes where she did seem to have her chance but she was far from disgraced in defeat behind Jimmysstar. Tick over trial was nice last week and she is the class factor, by some distance.
I’m very interested in 11 Kimochi (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) and how she performs here. She didn’t have the best of luck during the Sydney Autumn, notably the TJ Smith where Nash even said himself post race he rode her like a 3kg apprentice. Loved the way she moved in a recent trial and her best is clearly good enough.
Race 8. (15:52) Queensland Derby 2400m
The more I watch the replay of the SA Derby, the more disgusted I get with the ride from J Allen on 3 Statuario (Bet Now:Β $SP.00). It should have bolted in but he gave it none by coming wide, conceding ground, and in turn, the eventual winner Femminile got the run Statuario had. He’ll eat up 2400m, he has quality about him…like him a lot.
6 Lavalier (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will have no issue with the 2400m. He tried his guts out in the SA Derby but just lacked the change up speed and finale to get the job done when third to Femminile. Truly run 2400m is ideal for him and can settle near the speed. One of the leading contenders.
I thought there was a bit of quality about the win of 14 Rogan (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) at Caulfield last time, the way he gave them a start and a beating, clocking great late splits to score. He’ll eat up 2400m, be strong late…just needs a drag into the race.
Race 9. (16:29) Helen Coughlan Stakes 1200m
4 Coco Jamboo (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a key threat if she can jump clean. She bombed the start in the Hawkesbury Crown and that sealed her fate, but her finale after that poor start was quite good I thought. Prior efforts were very good and her best is clearly good enough to win.
6 Comrade Rosa (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is one of the key chances after her effort in the Archer. She got a mile out of her ground but tracked up with purpose, angled clear and launched late, just missing out on the win when second to Lubrication. Loves Eagle Farm and a drying track is music to her ears.
3 Terra Mater (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a class mare for Jarrod Austin that resumes. She hasn’t raced since The Invitation in the Spring when outclassed behind Belclare. She does seem to react best on the fresh side, her trials have been electric and she does click with Nash.
