Race 1. (12:20) Grainshaker Australian Vodka 1200m
I think getting to 1200m and the bigger track can see 8 Hachiman (Bet Now: $SP.00) run a much improved race. Debuted in the Wyong 2YO Magic Millions where he wasn’t entirely suited on the tighter track but balanced up in the straight and was good to the line behind impressive winner Sovereign Fund. He had trialled well in readiness for the debut so I think he deserves another chance in an open race.
12 Cathay Bracelet (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a filly who I do have time for. She has caught the eye late in both career outings, the latest coming here last Saturday and while she was never a threat, she did warm to the task nicely late in the piece behind Fire Lane. Crying out for more ground and she gets it here. If she is within range on the turn, she has the change up speed to be quite effective.
4 Hard Pick (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Flying Artie on debut for Ed Cummings. He’s had a good grounding for start one, with three trials under the belt. Latest trial came last week at Hawkesbury and thought he moved well under Lloyd when a close up third. This stable can produce them to go well either fresh/on debut, and at a decent price, so watch the market.
Race 2. (12:55) Tab Highway Hcp (C3) 1400m
5 Super Extreme (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a lightly raced gelding for Cameron Crockett but is a last start Highway winner at this track/distance so he commands respect. Got into a good spot from the wide gate under J Mac and once that eventuated, it was pretty much race over and he was an impressive winner. That was his first run in a month so you’d think there is improvement to come and is hard to beat here.
2 Zaru (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a proven Highway performer that commands respect. He ran in the Super Extreme Highway from a fortnight back where he got back and wide from a sticky gate but he toughed it out pretty well in defeat behind the Crockett gelding. He’s third up here so he has upside to come you would assume and the resumption at Newcastle indicates he’s returned well. Hard to beat.
3 Lockdown Gamble (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since Gong Day at Kembla in a Highway where he finished last after seemingly getting every chance behind the speed behind Tap N Run. Prior efforts were strong and maps to get a soft run again, so I’d watch the market and see what it does.
Race 3. (13:30) Schweppes (Bm72) 1300m
7 Strait Acer (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a nice colt for Ed Cummings. Got back and charged late on debut at Hawkesbury, just missing out on the win, before making amends on the Kenso where he was given a peach by Parr and got the bob when it counted, right on the peg. I think he will want much further than 1300m, but he’s got an engine under the hood and if he’s within range, he can take this out.
9 Tango Fame (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a colt I have time for and confident he’ll take beating here. First two runs back from a spell saw him get back in the run and not be a threat but find the line strongly. He then stepped up to 1400m here two weeks ago and I thought closed his race off really well behind an in form mare, Lekvarte. That strong 1400m run should toughen him right up for this 1300m assignment.
Back to 1300m I do like for 6 O’Tycoon (Bet Now: $SP.00). He was backed with confidence when racing over 1400m here a fortnight back. He landed near the speed and tried his guts out but seven furlongs just found him out, tiring late to finish third to Lekvarte. I reckon 100m back in distance will help his cause and if there is petrol left in the tank, he’ll take beating I am sure.
Race 4. (14:05) Egroup Security (Bm78) 1100m
8 Po Kare Kare (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a quality mare for Bryce Heys that resumes. She hasn’t raced since July 27 when struggling on the bog track behind Twice As Special, but was only beaten under three lengths. Has a good first up record and her trials leading in indicates she has returned in super order and sitting off the good speed here, she’ll launch late and has the change up speed to win.
2 Pretty Wild (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Chris Waller trained mare I do like. Just one soft trial leading into her return at Kembla a few weeks ago where she was a bit one paced when asked for the big effort but picked up and was very good late in the piece when beaten a lip by Starboreta. Fitter, she appeals for sure in what looks a relatively thin Mares race.
1 Rupertaar (Bet Now: $SP.00) is capable with her best. Bjorn Baker trained mare that just ran out of condition fresh when third to Dehorned Unicorn. She then came here and did too much work from the wide gate to land on speed, tiring late behind Our Bellagio Miss. Hard fit now and back to Mares grade, so she is near D-Day, but her best is clearly good enough to take this out.
Race 5. (14:40) Midway (Bm72) 1100m
2 Oakfield Duke (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a promising animal for Kristen Buchanan that resumes. I thought he was a Four Pillars horse in the Spring but he ran over 1300m and failed fire, producing an end of prep run at Rosehill. Given a good break, has trialled up really well leading in and the form on the board suggests that he is a short course galloper, so 1100m I fresh and I think he can resume with a win. Hopefully the market agrees.
8 Italian Informant (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an Ed Cummings trained gelding that is showing good talent. Got a nice patient steer at Warwick Farm last time before peeling wider and letting down with purpose to win narrowly but impressively. Fast run 1100m looks his sweet spot and maps ideally here, so off a last start metro win, he should take beating here.
1 Garrison (Bet Now: $SP.00) resumes for Kim Waugh and I think is dangerous fresh. He has good form around him from last in work, including a second to Dehorned Unicorn. He is a good fresh horse and he has looked sharp in a couple of trial wins. Maps to get a lovely run in transit and with the claim for Lloyd, a win wouldn’t shock at all.
Race 6. (15:20) Drinkwise Maroubra (Bm100) 1600m
5 Bullfinch (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance where he wasn’t suited by the sit/sprint but I liked the way he found the line late in the piece when third to a very progressive animal, Nugget. He has pretty much run well right throughout this prep and this looks a very winnable race for him. Happy to be in his corner.
3 Steely (Bet Now: $SP.00) will prove hard to beat. 2000m was a bridge too far two back in the ATC Cup before going back to the mile here three weeks ago where he attempted to lead throughout and gave a solid kick, but was nabbed late in the piece by Nugget, who would be favourite in a race like this. I think with a bunny to chase, he will be much better off. Hard to beat.
Fitter and up to the mile are two big ticks for 6 Shameless Miss (Bet Now: $SP.00). Chris Waller trained mare that resumed over 1400m here two weeks back where she got back to near last in the run and made up solid headway without threatening behind Superium in a good return. Good second up record and despite wanting one more perhaps, the return over an unsuitable trip can’t be ignored.
Race 7. (16:00) Fujitsu General (Bm78) 2000m
4 Tony Be (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks ready to win again. Ripping steer from J Collett saw him win three back at Rosehill before a fifth there two back. Last start came here and I really liked the way he found the line late in the piece when a narrow second to Global Ausbred. He has that 2000m run under the belt, so that should hold him in good stead for this.
8 Bacio Del Mist (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been up a while but she is absolutely flying for Team Curtis. Had a soft run in transit here a fortnight back and I thought she stuck to the task well enough late in the piece behind Global Ausbred. She is a very genuine mare and a drop of rain wouldn’t hurt her chances at all, so she’s one of the leading contenders in a race like this.
1 Outlandos (Bet Now: $SP.00) is likely using this as a prep run for the Magic Millions Stayers but he does have a touch of class on his side compared to this lot. Solid fourth in The Beauford on Hunter Day at Newcastle before being freshened up and going to the mile here and was okay from the back without threatening behind Nugget. Probably using this as a tune up, but he will be one of the strongest late.
Race 8. (16:40) Tab (Bm78) 1100m
4 Dehorned Unicorn (Bet Now: $SP.00) is flying for Joe Pride and will take a power of beating here. Resumed with a strong win at Rosehill before going here two weeks ago where he found the line with purpose late in the piece when second to a quality mare, I Am Me. Like him up in trip and miles back in grade/depth, I think it will take a good one to get past him.
12 Vowmaster (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be in for a really good prep. Somewhat unwanted late in betting when resuming here a fortnight back but I really liked the way he found the line late when beaten a lip by Our Bellagio Miss. Good second up record and fitter, up to 1100m, he has all the upside in the world to prove hard to beat against this lot.
1 Quick Tempo (Bet Now: $SP.00) has a booming finish on him and if he gets the right run in transit to allow him to launch, he’s the one to beat. He ran over 1000m here two weeks ago where he got back to last in the run before hugging the fence to save ground and he charged late, just missing out on the win when a close up fourth. 1100m, I think, will be fine, and has the finale to blouse these.
Race 9. (17:20) Kia Ora Prague (Bm78) 1600m
If he’s within range on the turn, 3 Kettle Hill (Bet Now: $SP.00) will likely beat this lot. Australian debut came at Sandown where he was tardy to begin, back near last, held up…ugly watch, but loved the way he found the line late behind Savannah Cloud, one of the more in form gallopers in Melbourne at the moment. Fitter, up to the mile, hopefully gets three wide cover, a drag into the race and prove too good.
9 King Ratel (Bet Now: $SP.00) is flying and is hard to beat. He kicked off his prep with a couple of ripping efforts in stronger races than this. He then had the Blinkers back on and went to a Midway where he looked a moral on paper and despite a few nervous moments, he surged hard late and class came to the fore in a dominant win I thought. Stable is flying, he commands respect.
8 Aranqueur (Bet Now: $SP.00) doesn’t have the best of winning records but he has the form on the board to give this a shake. Ran second to Democracy Manifest a few weeks back and he looked the winner for a few strides when he was presented but just had no answers for the finale produced by the in form Waller galloper. He is a hard horse to back to win with confidence but the form around him ensures he’s hard to beat.
Race 10. (17:55) Furphy (Bm78) 1300m
4 Al Mah Haha (Bet Now: $SP.00) is worth a throw at the stumps in the get out. Tash Burleigh trained gelding that is four weeks between runs since racing at Rosehill where he was wide no cover for the trip and despite that, I actually thought he did a pretty good job in defeat behind Cavalier Charles. He gets in really well after the claim and the depth here is nowhere near as strong. Not racing as well as he has previously, but he doesn’t have to be going as well to take this out.
11 Soami (Bet Now: $SP.00) can bounce back with a step back to 1300m. Did work from the wide gate a few weeks back here, and was ridden a touch warm I thought, finishing down the track behind Democracy Manifest. Good in defeat seven days prior at Rosehill and I do think he’s a 1200m-1300m horse, not a 1400m horse, so back to this trip, he can run a much improved race.
7 Cuban Royale (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one of those horses that can bob up here and there and up he bobbed at Kembla several weeks back, launching late and finishing over the top to nail them on the peg in a very deceptive finish, but the official photo said he won comfortably. Great second up record, he’s in the mix again because he does seem to excel on the fresh side.
