Eight races will be run and won on the Parks track at Morphettville on Friday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (7) and the rail is out two metres from the 1000m-400m; True for the remainder.
Race 1. (12:45) Quayclean Mdn Plate 1000m
12 Royal Dress (Bet Now: $2.70) on top in the opener. Team McEvoy filly that is having start one and has looked the part in jumpouts to get ready for her debut. She has a wide draw to overcome, but looks to have early speed and potentially can overcome the barrier.
9 Hanabi (Bet Now: $4.40) is a daughter of Pride Of Dubai for Phillip Stokes resuming. Had a two run prep to start her career, the latest run coming at Murray Bridge in the SA Magic Millions. Has jumped out well leading in and stable is in solid form in town in recent weeks.
11 Mystic Storm (Bet Now: $21.00) is a Jon O’Connor trained filly that is on debut. This girl has had one jumpout to prepare for start one, which came at Gawler when running last in the field of three but thought she moved alright. Drawn wide, but should be able to get decent cover and finish off nicely at the end.
Race 2. (13:20) Barossa Fine Foods Mdn Plate 1250m
To me this race is all about 11 Coyote (Bet Now: $2.35), a former Kiwi making his Australian debut for Michael Hickmott. If he’s right, he wins. He just brings superior form lines from NZ, his last run being at Ellerslie when third to On The Bubbles, the Karaka Millions winner who beat IMO, the best three year old in Australasia, Sword Of State. I’ll bank on the stable having him right to go.
9 Slipslopslap (Bet Now: $3.50) is a Victorian raider that has to command respect in a race like this. Debuted a few weeks ago on the Synthetic at Ballarat and worked to the line pretty well when second to The Defiant One. Tick over trial was a nice piece of work and is a leading chance.
15 Yowza (Bet Now: $10.00) can sneak a first four spot. Tick under three weeks between runs since contesting a Gawler maiden where the depth was solid on paper and was good in defeat. The draw makes things tricky for her but if she gets luck, she can be dangerous at a price.
Race 3. (13:55) 36? South Beef (bm72) 1400m
6 Zoist (Bet Now: $2.00) is a Team McEvoy three year old that ran second to Great Diviner. He was doing work in the run but despite that, he loomed large to win, but the Clarken hires found enough and was too good, just. Better luck in the run and he can take this out.
7 Posyed To Rein (Bet Now: $5.50) saves her best for the Parks track so retuning here can spark improvement. She spanked them at this track fresh before a game effort at Flemington. Then went to Gawler and failed to fire. Freshened up, she can easily bounce back here.
4 Wings Of Pastrami (Bet Now: $6.50) has the class to spank these. Just a matter of where she is at. She resumes, having not raced since May 29 when four wide throughout in a total forgive behind Not Usual Glorious. She’s a mare who can sprint well fresh and does have class when right.
Race 4. (14:30) Gh Mumm (bm60) 1000m
5 Sitting Bull (Bet Now: $9.00) is hard to catch given his racing pattern is to get back, but Sam Burford has him going well. Ran on the course proper here five weeks back and finished off strongly from near last in the run when third to The Big Goodbye. If he can sit closer in the run, he’ll be hard to hold out late.
10 Romalette (Bet Now: $8.50) is a very interesting runner. Formerly with the O’Dea/Hoysted camp, this mare now finds herself with Will Clarken and we know the record the stable has with tried horses. Her QLD form, as a whole, is plain, but has trialled well and the stable can improve a cast off.
13 Honey Go Lightly (Bet Now: $8.00) is bursting to win a race. Honest mare that tries very hard and hasn’t been far away of late, her latest run coming at Murray Bridge when beaten narrowly by Kishstar, but loved the way she dug in and surged, just missing. Draws to get a soft run and is a key chance.
Race 5. (15:05) Fleurieu Milk Company (bm62) 1000m
14 Scenic Host (Bet Now: $5.00) looks a progressive filly for Michael O’Leary and confident she can measure up in town. Not sure she beat a great deal in her Bordertown maiden last time out, but given she made a sustained run of about 500m+, she was still strong late and bolted up impressively. Stable can produce a good lightly raced galloper in town and I think she is another.
7 Ultimate Victory (Bet Now: $4.50) is four weeks between runs since racing at Murray Bridge. He was back off the speed and while he was never really a winning threat, liked the way he finished his race off behind Zoushine. Gets in well after the claim and should just about be at peak fitness.
6 Southern Magnolia (Bet Now: $12.00) is a very interesting runner. This filly was formerly with Colin Little, but is having her first run for Jon O’Connor. She is a filly who has gradually get better with each run, her latest run being a maiden win at Sale back in March. Market watch for sure with a filly like this.
Race 6. (15:40) The Junction (bm60) 1250m
13 Tahnee Tradition (Bet Now: $7.00) should appreciate the run under the belt for the Hardacre camp. Met with market support when resuming over 1200m at Murray Bridge four weeks ago and worked home strongly late when second to the hard fit and in form Munster. Off that run, she’s hard to beat here.
10 Ringfort (Bet Now: $7.00) deserves another chance. Will Clarken trained mare that was just too bad to be true when racing at Morphettville several weeks ago. She was hard in the market and looked to be going nicely but soon dropped out and finished tailed off last. She’s better than that and the run prior was strong.
7 Lomax (Bet Now: $13.00) is four weeks between runs for Brian Mueller since racing over this trip at Murray Bridge where he got a fair way back in the run but really liked the way he finished his race off behind Munster. Form since has been solid enough and for mine, he’s a knockout chance.
Race 7. (16:20) Irish Race Day At Morph-bm68 1250m
4 Munster (Bet Now: $4.60) should prove hard to beat for Michael Hickmott. Was on the seven day back up when racing at Gawler three weeks ago. He was off the speed and chased, trying hard, but couldn’t quite finish it off when fourth to Smart Alick. Strong winner at Murray Bridge seven days prior to that so he can bounce back.
13 Picargo (Bet Now: $14.00) is a Ryan Balfour gelding that resumed several weeks ago at Morphettville. He was three and four wide no cover for the trip and that wide run just told on him late. Does boast a strong second up record, so he appeals here as a winning threat despite a tricky gate.
14 Smart Alick (Bet Now: $8.00) is a tick under three weeks between runs since recording a dominant win at Gawler. Admittedly the bias was in his corner, but he still took advantage and was impressive. It’ll be interesting to see if that form holds up. If it does, he will be around the mark.
Race 8. (17:00) Pike & Joyce (bm68) 1950m
1 Tibetan (Bet Now: $3.20) is two weeks between runs for Michael Hickmott and this guy is knocking on the door to win one. He ran on the Parks track last start and didn’t stop chasing behind dominant winner Dominus, who was given a 12/10 by Pannell. Only one win from 18 outings, but he is racing better than what that winning strike rate suggests.
11 Swift Sure (Bet Now: $3.00) is a Price/Kent trained three year old that should relish the rise in trip. Never really a winning threat at Geelong last time out and was good late. Suited up in trip and overall, the depth here isn’t overly strong so he will take beating against this lot.
12 Flow Meter (Bet Now: $13.00) is an absolute beauty for John Hickmott that can sneak a first four spot. Comes through the Mahis Angel race from three weeks back at Gawler where he was back near last in the run but worked home pretty well without threatening. Not sure he wins here, but one for exotics.
