30/12/2023 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Doomben, Vo Rogue Plate day

Ten races have been set down for Doomben on Saturday. Weather is fine, track is heavy (8) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

1 Jemeldi (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the straight bat option for Ryan Tyrell. This gelding ran over 1000m at the Sunny Coast just under two weeks ago where he was off the speed but presented to win and tried bis guts out but couldn’t quite get there when second to Zoumeteor. Maps perfect and is a proven weight carrier.

2 Boom Torque (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Matty Dunn trained gelding that resumes. This guy ended last prep on a high, winning four races on the bounce, including two wins over 1200m here. No trials, but loves racing here and I think he’ll be stronger than most at the end. Watch the market.

9 Fumiko (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has a tricky draw to overcome but she appears well placed in a race like this. She ran two weeks back at Eagle Farm where she got a fair way out of her ground and was never really threatening I thought given how much start she conceded but she was good late. B Shinn aboard and with a drag into the race, she’ll be effective.

1 Wolfgang (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to have a bit on these. Kennewell/Yeomans trained colt that resumed at Morphettville where he produced sustained speed from the front and despite being out of petrol tickets late, he was too good. 1200m is the test given he has eyes on the Magic Millions but he gets B Shinn and a likely soft lead.

2 Defiant Boom (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the only threat, if any. He is a son of Spirit Of Boom that is on debut off the back of two trials, each time moving well enough to my eye to say he has an engine under the hood. Enough to beat Wolfgang? I am saying no, but outside him and the fav, the depth is very thin.

4 Mishani Hercules (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one for exotics. He ran three weeks back in the Phelan Ready where he was backed with confidence late but found nothing late and was plain, running last in the field of four behind Beau Dazzler. Not sure I could back him to win off last run but prior efforts were more than sound.

4 Beaufort Park (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to be in for a really good prep and is suited up to the mile third up from a spell. He ran over 1400m at Eagle Farm two weeks ago where he was ridden with some level of intent to be near the speed and fought on really well in defeat behind Light Of Boom, who is flying. Loves racing at Doomben, hard fit and gets Craig Williams.

2 Aussie Nugget (Bet Now:  $SP.00) commands respect. He ran over the mile a fortnight back at Eagle Farm where he was held up at stages but got clear and charged late to just miss out on the win when second to Indifference. He looks to have come back in really good order and with a fab track/distance record, he clearly appeals.

1 Otyrar (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should be suited up in trip for Chris Waller. He was thrown in the deep end two weeks back in the Lough Neagh where he just looked in need of the run, finishing down the track behind Far Too Easy. Might want one more and a further rise in trip but he has a touch of quality and enormous upside.

6 Hardware Lane (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying for John Smerdon and I think with a likely wet track on the cards, he’s the way I am leaning. He has been so well placed in recent times, winning his past two, both of those wins coming over 1100m at Ipswich where each time he has given the leaders a start and a beating in a dominant display. The key is a wet track. He swims and with rain forecast for the day, if it hits, he is #1 seed for me.

9 Emperor (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the best horse in the race, by a mile. Just depends on the track because I think he is a much better horse on top of the ground vs wet ground. He should have won at Randwick last time in a Highway but was given little hope by Nash in a rare off ride from him. Right down in the weights here, hard to beat if the track isn’t too wet.

5 Situation Room (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since contesting the Bribie at Eagle Farm where he just found them a bit sharp, finishing down the track behind stablemate All That Pizzazz. This looks more his level, he loves Doomben and if he finds the front, gets some level of control, he’ll take running down.

I’ll bank on class getting 2 Count Da Beans (Bet Now:  $SP.00) home. Tony Gollan trained four year old that ran in The Gateway three weeks ago and just found the class of race a bit much, finishing down the track behind impressive winner Dream Hour. This looks more his level, he likes racing at Doomben and with luck from the gate, he’ll take holding out.

7 Centrestone (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a mare heading in the right direction for Chris Waller. This mare resumed a fortnight back over 1200m at Eagle Farm where she was able to lob into a beaut spot behind the speed before angling into clear air and she let down nicely to win and win well in a strong return. Hard to beat despite the tricky gate.

6 Petunia (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a daughter of Sebring for Kelly Schweida that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since August 5 at Eagle Farm when back off the speed and seemingly had every chance but didn’t quite fire behind Hokahey. Two trials under the belt, C Williams aboard, I think there is enough intent to say she runs well fresh.

2 Dune Forty Five (Bet Now:  $SP.00) gets the nod. Rob Heathcoate trained gelding that ran two weeks ago at Eagle Farm where he contested what was pretty much a barrier trial and with that tempo, he got keen in the run and failed to finish his race off behind Great House. B Shinn aboard and his patient hands should help this guy settle in the run and with that, rising to 2000m is ideal.

1 Great House (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here off a win and appeals. Chris Waller has thus stayer, who won the race mentioned above, with change up speed from him being the difference between winning and losing, launching late to finish best. The gate makes things tricky but he is the class of the field and it will carry him a long way.

12 Red Wave (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a hard horse to catch but his best is more than good enough to give this a shake. He ran four weeks back here where he got back off the speed and kept finding the line in a good effort behind a quality horse, Knight’s Choice. He has a good record at Doomben and right down in the weights, he’s a knockout hope.

2 Chrysaor (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the class and I’ll bank on that getting him home. He resumes for Chris Waller, having not raced since winning the Callander-Presnell when finally fulfilling potential to win impressively. Has eyes on the Magic Millions and with two trials under the belt, I reckon he’s here to run a beauty with improvement to come but with class, i think he can win.

3 Show Me Mercy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks primed. Stuart Kendrick trained three year old that resumed two weeks ago in the Gold Edition and he was one of the eye catchers of the meeting, closing off hard late when a close up third to Abounding. Fitter, up to 1350m, extremely hard to beat if he can use the inside gate to advantage.

4 Deep Respect (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is capable with his best but his racing manners are starting to become a concern. He got too far back and very keen in the Gold Edition, which left him without many petrol tickets left for the straight, finishing down the track behind Abounding. B Shinn aboard, he has the talent to measure up. Just needs to put it together mentally.

Keen on 2 Parisal (Bet Now:  $SP.00) for James Cummings. This mare comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since Champions Day at Flemington when on speed and tried her guts but was nabbed late by General Beau. Tick over trial win was sharp, she should land on speed quite comfortably and with a bit of juice in the track, it should be perfect.

1 Comrade Rosa (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the local hope in dazzling form. Just not sold on her if the track is truly wet because she wasn’t dynamic on wet ground when with John O’Shea but perhaps with the new stable, she could be fine at it. Her last start was several weeks ago in the Tatts Classic where she spanked them in an arrogant win. Spots them a start here but will be strong at the end.

9 Kir Royale (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an interesting runner. Chris Waller trained mare that resumes, having not raced since October 14 when somewhat on the plain side behind Ekaterina after doing work to land on speed. No trials/jumpouts, which is very odd for this stable, and first up in a Stakes race, watch the market.

3 Irish Songs (Bet Now:  $SP.00) saves his best for the Doomben 1350m and with that in mind, I think he’s the each way bet. He ran in the Lough Neagh at Eagle Farm two weeks ago, working home quite well from off the speed when third to Far Too Easy. Saves his best for here, he won’t mind juice in the track and is genuine. Open race, he’s worth an each way ticket.

4 Tamerlane (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for James Cummings, having not raced since Derby Day at Flemington where he led and gave a strong kick but couldn’t quite see it through when a close up fourth to Cause For Concern. Tick over trial was a sharp piece of work, he lands in a plum spot from the gate and won’t mind wet ground.

8 The Face (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has been a revelation since joining David Vandyke. He used to be a squib once upon a time but he has turned the corner. His latest win was over this track/distance, leading throughout and gee he was dominant in a sharp display. Tick over trial last week was sharp, he lands on speed, handles all conditions…only runs well.

6 Hatchet (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the straight bat play for me. Rob Heathcoate trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since August 19 when just off the speed and was held up at times but didn’t find much when eventually clear when fourth to Orbisyn. He is a very reliable horse early on in the prep, his trial to get ready was strong and with a fab track/distance record, he’s hard to beat.

1 Arentee (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can run a much improved race for Chris Meagher. He resumed at the Sunny Coast several weeks ago where he did work to land on speed and didn’t find much in the straight, failing to come on in a disappointing return behind The Face. Tick over trial was good, he likes Doomben and maps perfect. He can run a much improved race.

7 Navas Two (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key threat for Adam Campton. Formerly racing in Hong Kong, he had his first run for the stable over 1100m at Ipswich and was one of the eye catchers of the meeting when closing off with purpose behind Hardware Lane. Maps to get a perfect run in transit and gets B Shinn. Rates highly.
