The Brisbane Summer Carnival continues this Saturday at Doomben with a nine race card full of blacktype. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is out a metre for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (13:12) Magic Millions Life Changing Handicap (75) 1110m

D-Day for 3 Prioritise (Bet Now: $4.40). I think this will tell us if he is a contender or a pretender. I am hoping it’s the former because he has promised so much in a short space of time, but he has let the punters down badly in two runs this prep, the latest coming last Wednesday where he seemingly had every chance behind surprise winner Beaudragon. Trusting that we will eventually see the best of him. But this is last chance.

Danger

16 Darktown Strutter (Bet Now: $6.00) is a talented daughter of I Am Invincible for the Kelly Schweida team who is two for two this campaign, both coming over the 900m at the Gold Coast. First up she sat last in the field of four and rounded them up before racing there a fortnight back and she showed brilliant early toe to lead throughout. Tough ask here, but hard to knock her.

Long Shot

20 Star Justice (Bet Now: $19.00) could be the sleeper. Heinrich/Rogers trains this bloke who last raced on December 2 over the 1050m here when placing behind Graceville in a really good effort. Start prior was a beauty too behind the above average Rooi Roe. Down in the weights and should get a soft run. Knockout chance for sure.

8 Dapper One (Bet Now: $7.50) is a mare I’m keen on. She is absolutely flying at the moment for the Les Ross yard. She ran in a heat of this race at the Sunny Coast a couple of Sundays back and I thought her effort was outstanding from the back given she had to make her run 600m out, and that just isn’t her go. Save her for the straight and I think she beats these.

Danger

5 Fit For Purpose (Bet Now: $3.00) is a Liam Birchley trained gelding who has returned in fab order this prep. He is two for two this time in, both coming at the Sunny Coast over 1200m and 1400m respectively. Won his lone start at Doomben and I think back to 1350m will suit him even more. Like him alot here.

Long Shot

3 Victory Eight (Bet Now: $9.00) is a talented galloper for the Trevor Miller yard who was hard in the market in the race mentioned above and on face value, he was pretty plain to the eye behind Fit For Purpose but I think I’ll put it down to being ridden a tad too close to the speed. With cover and patience, he can bounce back hard.

Race 3. (14:22) Magic Millions BJ McLachlan Stakes 1200m

Back Me

4 Orcein (Bet Now: $3.70) clearly on top. Quality youngster for Chris Waller who has been outstanding in a couple of runs to start his career. Debuted with a third to Secret Lady in the Golden Gift before running second to Gongs at Rosehill, and the two winners of those races are two of the better youngsters we have seen this season.

Danger

I declared 7 Witherspoon (Bet Now: $5.00) in the Calaway Gal and on the home turn, it looked no betting, but she did plenty wrong in the straight, ducking and weaving around and in the end she didn’t attack the line at all when third to Outback Barbie. This run will give us a better guide, but I’ll give her a second chance.

Long Shot

The early market mover has been 13 Meryl (Bet Now: $11.00) and I think she’s a very interesting runner. Lee Curtis trains this filly, who debuted in the Gimcrack. Showed good speed to be up near the lead and only just folded late behind Satin Slipper. Has looked quite good in a couple of trials, she draws well and does have the form on the board.

Race 4. (15:02) Magic Millions Falvelon Quality 1050m

Back Me

8 Havasay (Bet Now: $4.00) is a high quality galloper for Liam Birchley who will feature prominently on Magic Millions Day. He resumed in the Bribie a fortnight back at Doomben and did an unbelievable job from the back behind Pinch River given there was a mad bias towards those near the rail/speed that afternoon yet he rattled home from the back out wide. He’ll give this a shake for sure.

Danger

1 Badajoz (Bet Now: $6.00) is a James Cummings trained galloper who hasn’t raced since racing down the straight on Oaks Day and racing like a tired horse behind Ball Of Muscle, with the form out of that being great. Thought he trialled up really well last Tuesday at Warwick Farm and he is a bomb on the fresh side.

Long Shot

18 Snitzkraft (Bet Now: $5.00) is the big query. Wood/Gesler trained three year old who hasn’t raced since resuming at Ipswich (Metro) in September where he copped serious heat on speed and was there to be beat but he found plenty and won impressively. They have tried him out over further, but 1000m-1100m is his go and he’s right down in the weights now fresh.

Race 5. (15:42) Magic Millions Shoot Out Quality 2200m

Back Me

2 Singing (Bet Now: $4.80) is an eight year old trained by Kris Lees and it had been a long time since he had greeted the judge prior to last start over the 2000m when ridden aggressively by Newitt and he was rewarded with a dominant victory, beating home Kirini, who won last Saturday, so that form has held up, and now his confidence is high, he can go on with it.

Danger

1 Rudy (Bet Now: $7.00) is the class runner of the field. Helen Page trains this boy, who last raced over the 2020m here a fortnight back where he looked home for a few strides but he couldn’t hold out the finale of Emphasis. The key is the weather. If we happy to get a rain affected track, I think he is the clear horse to beat.

Long Shot

11 Ingeegoodbe (Bet Now: $26.00) is a Rob Heathcoate trained son of Denman who was a real staying find in QLD during the Winter, winning a stack of races. He comes through the Emphasis event where I thought he was ridden a touch upside down and that left him gassed when it mattered. I think with a cold ride, he can bounce back hard.

Race 6. (16:22) Magic Millions The Buffering 1350m

Back Me

13 Care To Think (Bet Now: $4.60) clearly on top. He looks a rising star of QLD racing if the first up win over 1200m here a fortnight back is any guide. He defied the severe bias that day by rounding them up from the back and winning by a space, being eased down. 1350m and with a likely fast tempo, gee he’ll take some beating.

Danger

7 Privlaka (Bet Now: $9.00) bolted up two back at this track/distance before backing up a week later in the Lough Neagh where he was poorly in at the weights yet still attacked the line and was very good in defeat behind Most Important. He’s racing in such great form at the moment and will look the winner at some stage.

Long Shot

8 Trubia (Bet Now: $11.00) comes through the Care To Think race two weeks ago and you could make a case that he would have gone close to threatening for the win had he got clear air at the appropriate time. Convinced he is flying and is finally promising on his potential from the Winter of 2016. Big threat with luck.

Race 7. (17:02) Magic Millions Vo Rogue Plate 1350m

Back Me

4 Whypeeo (Bet Now: $4.60) on top, but only just. Missing the kick cost him the win first up at Canterbury before racing here a fortnight back in the Gold Edition where he was aided by the on pace bias but still found plenty to get the win. 1350m is a different pain barrier but we know he has the speed in the legs and a turn of foot.

Danger

5 Pierata (Bet Now: $2.90) looks a leading contender for the Guineas but I think Doomben isn’t his go. Class/brilliance got him the win fresh in the Winning Rupert before going to the Gold Edition where the tempo/bias didn’t help but he still got very close to Whypeeo. 1400m at the Gold Coast with blinkers on looks perfect. Think I just watch to watch him here rather than back.

Long Shot

1 Capital Gain (Bet Now: $12.00) could well be the sharp improver here. He resumed in the Winning Rupert and to be fair to him he didn’t really do a great deal behind Pierata. Dodged the Gold Edition and instead trialled at Deagon where he won the trial to get his confidence back up. His best form is clearly good enough to go close to beating these.

Race 8. (17:42) Magic Millions Bernborough Handicap 1600m

Back Me

5 Cantbuybetter (Bet Now: $4.60) is three weeks between runs for the Ben Currie team since winning the Brisbane Handicap at this track/distance, aided by an absolute peach from Jamie Kah who hugged the rail throughout and got the split late when it was needed to dive through and get the victory. He has the upside and fresh legs.

Danger

3 Cabeza De Vaca (Bet Now: $2.90) is a quality animal for the Waterhouse/Bott stable who nearly stole the Villiers under Josh Parr but the brutal early splits just found him out late when beaten in the last couple of strides by Crack Me Up. Looks to be speed engaged, so coming over is an ask, but on form, he’ll take some beating.

Long Shot

1 Beauty Flame (Bet Now: $16.00) is a horse I’ll continue to keep tabs on because I’m convinced he is going well for the Mel O’Gorman team. He has had two runs for the stable now, the latest in the Lough Neagh when catching the eye late behind Most Important. He saves his best for the mile and he should be near peak fitness.

Race 9. (18:20) Magic Millions Nudgee Stakes 1200m

Back Me

Pretty keen here on 1 Ghisoni (Bet Now: $4.20). This Godolphin mare has had issues, but on ability, she has a few lengths on these. Last ran in the Rosemont Stud on Geelong Cup Day and would have won had it not been for the bias when beaten a lip by Deja Blue. She is a bomb when produced fresh, bolted up in her lone Doomben run and her trial recently behind Global Glamour was outstanding. Only bad luck beats her.

Danger

3 Candika (Bet Now: $8.00) is a classy daughter of Sebring that resumes for the Steve O’Dea camp. This mare was heading down the Oaks path in the Winter but was tipped out after failing in the Roses. Ran very sharp time in a trial win here over 1000m and there definitely looks to be intent to run well first up.

Long Shot

9 Pepperano (Bet Now: $12.00) is a quality mare for Liam Birchley who is heading towards the mares race on magic Millions Day and she’ll take some beating for sure. She resumed at this track/distance a fortnight back and was very game in defeat but no match late for the low flying Care To Think. Excellent second up record and loves Doomben.
