Race 1. (11:50) Royal Children's Hospital Trpy 1200m
4 Steparty (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a nice colt for Paul Preusker. He was down to debut here three weeks ago but was scratched and instead went to Ballarat 24 hours later for a kill and that is what it was, leading throughout and winning comfortably in a good display. 1200m should be no issue for him and with a good racing style, he appeals big time.
1 Codigo (Bet Now: $SP.00) creates plenty of interest. Stephen Marsh comes across from NZ with this youngster, who is first up after winning 2/2 to start his career back home. He trialled on a bottomless deck at Avondale in NZ and despite wanting to lay in, he moved quite well when winning. Fascinating to see how he goes so watch the market.
2 Sunsource (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Busuttin/Young trained juvenile that resumes, having not raced since the Magic Millions at the Gold Coast when failing to make up any real headway and failed to measure up. Been given a good break to try and sneak in some Winter races before the Spring and with two jumpouts under the belt, I think he can run a positive race.
Race 2. (12:25) Good Friday Appeal (Bm100) 2520m
Not much of a race. 9 Never Again (Bet Now: $SP.00) will have no issue with the 2520m. Reece Goodwin trains this gelding, who ran at this track/distance two weeks back where he got to near last in the run and made up solid headway without threatening, beaten a couple of lengths by Mimi’s Award. The depth here isn’t as strong IMO and with the 3kg claim for Billy Pinn, he looks so well in.
Giving respect to 3 D’Aguilar (Bet Now: $SP.00) for Patrick Payne. He is on the seven day back up after racing at Sandown last Saturday over 1800m where he got back off the speed and took a while to get going but was pretty good late in the piece behind a nice horse, Normandy Bridge. Unknown at the trip, but has the turn of foot and upside compared to most, who are out of form or no good.
1 Hopeful (Bet Now: $SP.00) can be an improver, third up from a spell. He comes to Melbourne after two runs in Sydney to start the prep where he failed to fire a shot each time, the latest run seeing him finish down the track behind Bois D’Argent, a stablemate. Suited up in trip, he maps to do no work and gets Blake Shinn.
Race 3. (13:00) Good Fri Appeal Volunteer-Bm78 1400m
3 Party For One (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found winning form and she can certainly go on with it. Three weeks between runs since a dominant win at this track/distance, with Blake Shinn getting it spot on in steering her to victory, firstly getting her out of the gates to settle closer, cuddled, angled clear late and launched for a dominant win. Now she has that win, her confidence is up, she goes on with it.
1 Mac N Cheese (Bet Now: $SP.00) is better suited over further but she is the class of the field and that will carry her a long way towards victory. She resumes, having not raced since December 10 at Sandown when producing an end of prep run, finishing down the track behind Savannah Cloud, who was flying at the time. Good fresh record and has class, and will be strong at the end.
11 Ballynora (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an interesting runner. She comes here with fresh legs for Phillip Stokes, having not raced since April 22 when far from disgraced in the City Of Adelaide at Morphettville behind My Khalifa, who was flying at the time. She is a mare who can race well on the fresh side and the depth here is nowhere near as deep. Dangerous at a price.
Race 4. (13:35) Tab / Ata Trainers' Trust Hcp 1100m
Fitter, I am in the corner of 2 Midtown Boss (Bet Now: $SP.00) for Team Kav. He resumed three weeks ago down the straight here over 1200m when back in the ruck but got his way into clear air and found the line with purpose, just missing out on the win when a narrow third to Airman. Much better set up this time around, has more upside than most, hard to beat.
4 Sghirripa (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an SA raider that has a good racing style and will look the winner for a fair chunk. He ran three weeks back on the Parks track at Morphettville where he looked a good thing on paper and under a confident steer from Rawiller, he found late to found them off and win. Last bit will likely test, but he’ll give plenty of cheek I am sure.
11 Taut You Could (Bet Now: $SP.00) creates interest. Formerly with Greg Eurell, he is having his first run for Ben Brisbourne. He ran down the straight here three weeks ago and was pretty good from near the speed when a close up third to a very nice Team Hawkes youngster, Airman. Like him back in trip and off the last start effort, he should prove hard to beat against this lot.
Race 5. (14:10) Rch Staff Appreciation Plate 2000m
1 First Immortal (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been up a little while but is holding his form superbly and is hard to beat. He ran two weeks ago at this track/distance, getting a beaut run in transit near the speed under Shin before angling into clear air and he sustained a run to win impressively, backing up his good effort at Morphettville behind the very much in form Silent Surrente. Only has to hold his form to go close again.
2 Oceans Above (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 2000m for Simon Zahra. Three weeks between runs since letting down with purpose from off the speed to win over the mile here, finishing over the top of Simeon in a driving finish. Bred to appreciate 2000m and is one with upside/progression whereas some of these are looking for the paddock.
4 Ain’t He Grand (Bet Now: $SP.00) is better suited at this level compared to the SA Derby where he did too much work in the run and was a beaten horse a fair way out, finishing down the track behind Dunkel, failing to beat a runner home. Maps to get a much better run in transit this time around and back to 2000m, he is a big improver IMO.
Race 6. (14:45) Herald Sun/ Run For The Kids 1400m
7 Brung King (Bet Now: $SP.00) is just under two weeks between runs since winning at Sandown, giving them a start and a beating in a sharp display. That is two runs on the bounce at 1400m and although he might want further, at least he will be strong late. Tricky draw to overcome given his racing pattern, but is heading in the right direction. Definite winning chance with a drag into the race.
2 Castillian (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate getting just about at peak fitness. He has steadily got better with each run this time in, the latest being a few weeks back at Flemington where he got back to near last in the run and worked home well when a close up fourth to Euphoric. That is two runs on the bounce at 1400m…would love a rise in trip for him, but stable is flying and he’ll be strong at the end.
13 The Prodigal Son (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very nice horse for Craig Widdison. Market said he was a moral when resuming at Canberra over 1200m and once he landed on speed, it was race over and he made an absolute mess of them in a super return. Tricky draw, but he’s got the right rider for an on speed pattern and given that, drawing out is no disadvantage.
Race 7. (15:20) Henley And Villawood Gfa-Bm84 2000m
10 Flash Feeling (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks ready to win for John Sadler. He ran over 1800m here two weeks ago and I think you can easily make a case that he should have won. He got badly held up at a vital stage before eventually getting clear and finding the line really well late in the piece behind Daytona Bay. Hard fit now and up to 2000m, can settle closer, he’s clearly the one to beat.
It’s hard to ignore 15 Silent Surrente (Bet Now: $SP.00), who is the form horse in SA at the moment IMO. She has been outstanding her past two, winning over 2000m on the course proper at Morphettville on each occasion, each time leading throughout and has been dominant to the line. Too good for them over there, so like that they are testing her here. Keen to see how she goes.

Race 8. (16:00) Vrc Community Plate 1400m
Leaning the way of 1 King Magnus (Bet Now: $SP.00) for the Griffiths/De Kock camp. Three weeks between runs since winning at this track/distance, settling just off the speed before coming with a well timed run and finishing best to win narrowly but impressively. He was only second up there so he has good room for improvement and is the proven performer.
6 It’sourtime (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the key threat. He was becoming very hard to follow and trust but the run of outs came to an end when winning the Straight Six, getting a peach from McNeil and was strong to the line in winning, suggesting a rise to 1400m from 1200m will be ideal and maps to get a decent run forward of midfield. Hard to beat.
7 Jimmy The Bear (Bet Now: $SP.00) is unbeaten second up and should appreciate a rise to 1400m. He resumed three weeks ago here in the Straight Six, a set up far from ideal for him, but I thought he ran a super race from off the speed, beaten just under two lengths by the straight track specialist, It’sourtime. Much better set up this time around and with his second up record, he appeals big time.
Race 9. (16:35) Vrc & Gfa Partnership (Bm70) 1100m
2 Treporti (Bet Now: $SP.00) can be hit and miss at times but he is a nice horse for Danny O’Brien and has home track advantage. He hasn’t raced since Golden Mile Day at Bendigo on April 1 when a strong winner, surging hard late to finish over the top and win. Has run well down the straight before and overall, this race is a bit on the thin side, so with fresh legs, he has a bit in his corner.
15 Senegalia (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a short course specialist so 1100m here suits. She is several weeks between runs since racing over 1000m when chasing the speed throughout and battled away well enough in defeat behind Our Heidi. Proven down the straight and with a jockey upgrade, I think she can be a big improver.
10 Fly On Bye (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a definite winning chance. He was a month between runs when racing here two weeks back down the straight. He got a fair way back in the run and was never really a threat but worked home well behind talented mare Sigh, who would be odds on against these. If he’s within range 400m out, he can launch late.
