Caulfield will play host to a nine event card on Saturday. Weather is fine, track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:15) Remembering Margaret Mcdonald Hcp 1400m
5 Kaleo (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks a juvenile with talent and should appreciate getting to 1400m after debuting two weeks ago in the Mornington Sires where he got back off the speed but didn’t mind the way he finished his race off in defeat. Hard to beat if he can settle closer in the run.
1 Prestige Ole (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a few weeks between runs since winning over 1400m at Flemington where he gave them a start and a beating, knuckling down with purpose late to win well despite the narrow margin. Has the 1400m lead in and has a touch of quality.
3 Casual Ghai (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes through the Mornington Sires where he ran third. He got into a decent spot in transit and was there to threaten but just couldn’t quite finish the job. Not sure he is good enough to win but a must for exotics.
Race 2. (12:45) Mrc Foundation Gala May 8 (Bm78) 1100m
4 Hearcomesthestar (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) on top for me. Handy mare that is first up since the early part of the Autumn when down the track in the Bellmaine behind She’s Bulletproof. Looks to have jumped out well leading in and is better suited at 78 grade vs Stakes level. Happy to have her on top.
3 Gracie’s Rain (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a short course specialist and back to Mares grade, she appeals. She ran on Mornington Cup Day and was gallant in defeat but couldn’t quite finish the job behind Chinqui. With her racing style, she’ll give herself every chance.
2 Avebury (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes back to 1100m for Team Freedman after resuming over 1200m at Mornington when off speed and seemed to have her chance but she was far from disgraced in defeat. She’ll be strong late. Just depends what start she concedes.
Race 3. (13:20) Henley Homes Hcp 1100m
2 Skipjack (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a key threat. Moody/Coleman trained three year old that was on speed throughout last start and showed good ticker late to fend them off and win. He looks a decent short course horse at this level, he should lead and take running down.
3 Scampi (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is on the quick back up for Ciaron Maher after winning at Ballarat on Sunday where he looked a good thing on paper and duly saluted, giving nothing else a look in and was quite dominant late in the piece. Confident he measures up.
8 Landmark (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. He ran three weeks back at Bendigo when off speed and made up ground without threatening behind Manolo Bling. Draw is tricky but his best is good enough to threaten.
Race 4. (13:55) Ive > Hcp 1400m
1 Nostringsattached (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should take a power of beating. He ran three weeks ago in the South Pacific at Randwick where he seemed to have his chance but couldn’t quite get there when second to Sergeant Major. That form clearly reads well and the depth here isn’t deep.
4 Kalkallo (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is one of the key threats. He comes through the Bendigo Guineas when just off the speed before being presented clear air and launched late but just missed out on the win when second to Wonder Boy. Has to be given serious respect as a key chance.
11 Zourain (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. Just looked in need of the run fresh at Pakenham before going to Sandown where he got off speed and seemed to have his chance but was far from disgraced in defeat. First four contender.
Race 5. (14:30) Tobin Brothers Celebrating Lives (Bm90) 1000m
4 Oak Hill (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has to be given respect for Team Hayes. You can easily make a case to say that with clear air, he wins the Country Discovery at Echuca instead of a luckless, fast finishing second. If the breaks go his way, he can take this out for sure.
3 Fleetwood (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a James Cummings trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since Nov 23 at Kembla on Gong Day when a closing fourth in The Warra. Given a good break and his trial work to get ready has been quite strong.
5 Twin Perfection (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Phillip Stokes trained gelding that resumes. He had a three run Spring where he didn’t really fire a shot each time he stepped out so he’s been given a good spell and I reckon his jumpout work this time in has been quite good, so keen to see how he goes.
Race 6. (15:05) Mrc Chairman's Club (Bm100) 2000m
3 Immediacy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes here as a last start winner, that victory coming at Mornington where he looked a good thing on paper and didn’t give his supporters a moment of worry with a commandiing performance. Fitter, he takes beating.
9 Aethelflaed (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) commands respect. Matty Smith trained 2023 VRC Oaks runner up that made her return to racing in a low race at Canberra but despite the break between runs, she was far too good. If there is no second up syndrome, she’s hard to beat.
6 Alhambra Lad (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has been freshened up for Team Payne since the Adelaide Cup where he raced like a tired horse, finishing down the track behind Silent Surrente. Tick over jumps trial to sharpen him, potentially has eyes on that as a future, not sure, but he is a class runner.
Race 7. (15:40) Evergreen Turf Hcp 2000m
3 Oxford Blue (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks suited up to 2000m for Matt Laurie after racing over 1800m at Caulfield Heath. He just took a little too long to wind into his work but was quite good late. Up to 2000m I do like and in form, he takes beating.
5 The Muffin Man (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is several weeks between runs for Charlotte Littlefield since racing over the mile at Flemington when trying hard but was simply no match late for Athanatos. That form does read well and he’s racing as if 2000m will be fine.
1 Mustang Morgan (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the class of the field given his strong NZ form and he does come through the Australian Derby where he did too much work to land on speed and just felt the pinch late. The gate is tricky but class will carry him a long way.
Race 8. (16:20) Anniversary Vase 1600m
2 Regal Zeus (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is flying for John McArdle and has to be given respect off the back of his win in the Golden Mile at Bendigo where credit to him, he was there to be beaten but he found under pressure to fend them off and win. Good upside to come, he’ll press forward and take running down.
1 Pride Of Jenni… (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is she cast? The Australian Cup run says yes, the Peter Young win says no. Just not sure what we are going to get but the stable wouldn’t persist with her if she was cast, and in terms of class, she has lengths on these.
3 Pounding (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. He comes through the Golden Mile at Bendigo when off speed and kept chasing in a good effort in defeat behind Regal Zeus. Hard fit, has run well at Caulfield previously, he’s in with a shout.
Race 9. (16:55) Sportsbet Same Race Multi (Bm84) 1400m
10 Sunshineinmypocket (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a key chance. I think you can make a case to say he wins at Bendigo over 1300m a few weeks back. He got held up at times before eventually getting clear air and drove hard late, just missing out on the win. Up to 1400m, he’ll sit off the speed and launch late.
7 Hughes (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is in a purple patch and commands respect. He has won two on the bounce, firstly at Cranbourne before going here when giving them a start and a beating. Tick over earlier this week was sharp and hard to knock the way he’s racing.
2 Pascero (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a few weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance when off speed and seemed to have his chance but was far from disgraced in defeat behind Rhinoceros. His best is good enough and this doesn’t appear to be a deep contest.
