Tasmanian Guineas 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the Tasmanian Guineas
Race 1. (14:52) Alexandra Plate 1000m
2 Prince Of Khatun (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a good type for Adam Trinder and I am confident he can debut with a win. He trialled at Longford last week and moved well to my eye, winning the trial by a decent margin and running time. Stable can find a good juvenile and I think this guy is one.
3 Zany Girl (Bet Now: $SP.00) has that winning racing experience under the belt, which should hold her in good stead. That debut win came at this track/distance when off speed and knuckled down with purpose late to win narrowly but impressively. Hard to beat.
5 Bella Chinkara (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran fourth to Zany Girl in the race mentioned above and I thought her run had good merit to it given she was wide no cover throughout and battled away well enough in defeat. If she can get a more economical run in transit, she is a first four contender.
Race 2. (15:27) Kevin Sharkie Mdn Plate 1100m
I want to give 2 Light Force (Bet Now: $SP.00) another chance. Market gravitated towards him when he resumed at this track/distance last week but he was quite keen in the run, fresh, and it took away his finale when down the track. Market support was strong and he had trialled super leading in so I am giving him another look.
1 Gazza’s Spirit (Bet Now: $SP.00) has had a few chances to break the maiden tag but he is racing well. He comes back to 1100m after racing over 1200m here last week when near the speed and giving a strong sight but just couldn’t quite see it through, finishing second. Back in trip no issue, hard to beat.
5 The Trine (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Alpine Eagle on debut for the Stuart Gandy camp. This guy ran last in his trial at Longford last week but was only beaten 3.5L and seemed to move well enough to my eye. Not sure he has the sharpness to win but I reckon he’ll be strong late.
Race 3. (16:04) Campbell Town Hotel Hcp (C5) 1100m
I dare say a couple of these will have blacktype ambitions provided they produce the goods here, starting with 1 Jaguar Stone (Bet Now: $SP.00), who I do feel is the best horse in the race. She comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since Nov 27 in the Tassie Newmarket when somewhat luckless in behind so forgive and forget the run behind Geegees Gemstone. Blinkers are back and she drops miles in grade/depth.
4 Press For Boom (Bet Now: $SP.00) put her unbeaten record on the line when she resumed at this track/distance a few weeks ago and she tried hard from off the speed but had to settle for a second to Galenus. Better for the run under the belt and she too, I assume, has blacktype ambitions, so she’d want to be going close here to warrant going down that path.
2 Muscle Up (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Zululand for Adam Trinder that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since May 5 on the Synthetic at Devonport when on speed and tiring late behind Seydoux. He is a horse who can sprint well fresh and has trilled nicely, so watch the market.
Race 4. (16:42) Mingari + Co Hcp (C1) 1100m
2 Highland Duel (Bet Now: $SP.00) might be a rocket. The fact he is by Highland Reel and showing potential over the sprint trips tells me he goes pretty good. Maiden win over 1200m last time was dominant, leading throughout and he gave nothing else a look in to win and win well. Lands near the front and takes beating.
9 Transom (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a few weeks between runs since a track/distance maiden win, leading throughout, getting front end control and was too good for them late in the piece. Harder here, but maps ideally and gets down in the weights after the claim, so she rates highly.
1 Alpine Thunder (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a knockout chance. He was a strong maiden winner over 1200m here before going to Launceston where he sat on speed and couldn’t really get involved, tiring late. Back to 1100m is fine and has a good racing style, so don’t dismiss him.
Race 5. (17:17) Ladbrokes Racing Club (Bm72) 1600m
5 Rubbleonthedouble (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found that winning feeling again and he can go on with it. He was a track/distance winner last time, getting the 1/1 sit before angling for clear air and he knuckled down with purpose late to win and win well. He can win again in what looks a winnable race.
2 Just A Needs (Bet Now: $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. Both runs this time in have come over 1400m at Launceston, just looking in need of the run fresh before a game third last time, running a much improved race. Hard fit now and up to 1600m, he rates highly.
1 Rising Light (Bet Now: $SP.00) is unbeaten at this track/distance and his best is more than good enough. He resumed over the mile on the Devonport Synthetic where he got back off the speed and was never really a factor. Better suited on the turf I feel and he does have class on his side.
Race 6. (17:57) Tasmanian Guineas 1600m
7 Azonto (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the straight bat play here in what looks an open, somewhat thin edition of the Guineas. She won over 1400m at Launceston last time, getting the suck run in transit before angling for clear air and knuckled down with purpose late to win and win well. Maps to do no work again and be effective late.
1 Magnaprime (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a slight query at 1600m but with front end control, he can take running down. He ran second in the race mentioned above where he attempted to lead throughout and he tried his guts out but he couldn’t quite see it through. If he gets a cheap time of it in front, he’ll be hard to get past.
3 Zoete’s Rock (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing like a rise to 1600m suits. He comes through the Azonto race. He got off speed and while he lacked a turn of foot, he stayed on and was pretty good in defeat I thought. Think with a more genuine tempo here, he could run top four without surprising.
Race 7. (18:33) Aviso Tas Insurance Brokers (Bm64) 1400m
3 Day Performer (Bet Now: $SP.00) for me. Track/distance winner from a few weeks ago where she was wide no cover before eventually landing on speed and despite that early work, she found under pressure to fend them off and win well. Tricky draw, but should press forward and take beating.
7 Fighting For Gold (Bet Now: $SP.00) has done little wrong in a six start career and commands respect. She won on the Devonport Synthetic last time where she got into a beaut spot near the speed and was there to pounce, finishing best under Ganderton to get the job done. She can measure up here.
1 Verbano (Bet Now: $SP.00) is dangerous with her best. She ran over this track/distance last time where she got a fair way out of her ground and while she was never a winning threat, she kept finding the line and was pretty good in defeat. Gets in well after the claim, not dismissing her.
Race 8. (19:12) Winning Edge Presentations Plate (C3) 1400m
4 Stardamus (Bet Now: $SP.00) will do me in the get out. John Blacker trained gelding that ran over 1200m here last time out where he got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never threatening, he did make up headway and was pretty good in defeat I thought behind Turk Boy. Up to 1400m is ideal and if within range, he has the finale to win.
6 Dios (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a former Godolphin runner who is loving life in Tassie it seems under Siggy Carr. That said, he has let punters down recently, being hard in the market over this track/distance a few weeks ago and was just fair in defeat when fourth after seemingly getting every chance. Race has thinned out after scratchings, he can win.
9 Turf Puzzle (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes through the race won by Day Performer mentioned above. She attempted to lead throughout and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through, tiring late to finish down the track. Maps ideally and if she leads with control, she’ll take beating.
