29/7/2017 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Belmont, HG Bolton Sprint day

A strong eight race card has been set down for Belmont this Saturday where it is HG Bolton Sprint Day. The weather is overcast, the track is heavy (8) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

6 Snitzatune (Bet Now: $6.50) is a young gelding that debuts for the Fred Kersley yard. He has had three trials to prepare for his debut, the latest coming on Monday when winning narrowly but impressively and running good time for the morning. Bred to handle a wet track, so that’s a big tick here.

1 Honorific (Bet Now: $5.00) is an experienced two year old who has had five starts for a couple of wins. Last start was over 1700m here last Wednesday where he sat wide no cover for the trip but it didn’t matter to him as he finished off best in a slog. That hard run should toughen him for the harder assignment here, and back to 1400m is no issue.

8 Western Magic (Bet Now: $14.00) was three weeks between runs when racing over 1300m here last Wednesday and I really liked the way she finished off her race when a closing sixth to Aflica’s Girl. Senior rider takes over now, will improve fitness wise and the breeding suggests that getting the toe in will be okay.

4 Pop Hero (Bet Now: $6.50) gets the nod for me here. Talented gelding who has been very good in three runs back from a break, the latest coming three weeks ago when given a perfect run off the pace, got the split, pounced and clung on in a bunched finish. He has upside and he thrives on wet tracks.

2 More Aces (Bet Now: $2.40) was dreadful here first up before being much better next start against his own age when a game second to A Knight Of Pro. Taking on the older horses with the weight is the worry, but he maps superbly, getting fitter and 1200m back to 1000m looks ideal for this Jim Taylor runner.

5 Atacama Sky (Bet Now: $11.00) really interests me here. Three year old gelding second up for the Miller camp after a really poor resumption last Saturday where he held the rail and looked to travel well but was the first horse beat. Just needs to go back to his form from last time in to go close here.

4 Rosewood Hill (Bet Now: $1.55) just picks herself here I think. Quality mare for Ben Pearce who has been highly consistent right throughout this campaign. She ran here a fortnight back in a hot staying race and beat all bar one of the best 3YO’s in WA, Gatting. That looks good enough form for this and Pike remains on.

2 North Ridge (Bet Now: $4.80) comes through that race mentioned above won by Gatting. This horse ran third and his effort was sound in defeat, but he was beaten nearly four lengths. I think he will find it hard to beat home Rosewood Hill here, but he is tough, he fights and can’t be ignore entirely.

1 Ihtsahymn…(Bet Now: $18.00) well it has been a long time since he has raced at benchmark level so it will be very interesting to see what he does back in depth. He just doesn’t quite measure up to blacktype anymore but his efforts haven’t been ordinary. No claim either is interesting also. Stable confidence maybe?

11 High Conviction (Bet Now: $2.15) was heavily backed when racing here a fortnight back but gee if you backed him, you’d feel a bit sick. He looked to travel like the winner throughout, but then in the straight hit a flat spot and was going nowhere, then picked up again near the line and was strong. Not sure what to make of it, but if he puts it all together, he’s right in the game.

1 Helms Gate (Bet Now: $7.50) is a talented type for the Vaughn Sigley camp who ran here two weeks ago and did a good job on speed after doing a bit of work early in the run. Did that work, but kicked hard and was only beaten off late by Profit Street, who goes around in the HG Bolton as a threat. Reads well for this.

Convinced that 8 Saker (Bet Now: $35.00) is going well enough to threaten here. He just needs things to fall into place for him. Something like that happened last Wednesday here over 1700m where he had the box seat and loomed but couldn’t quite finish off when fourth to Jaspara. With a genuine tempo here, a fast run 1300m is ideal.

9 Royal Command (Bet Now: $2.05) looks a standout. High quality three year old for Team Williams who resumed a tick over three weeks back over this track/distance where he was parked off the speed and looked to be bolting. Once Pike shook him up and got clear air, it was all over and he spanked them. Harder here, but he’s very promising.

8 Get Over (Bet Now: $5.00) It was 238 days between runs when resuming here a fortnight back against his own age where he loomed large to win after getting midfield cover but his condition just gave way late behind A Knight Of Pro. Second up syndrome is the worry, but he has class on his side.

12 Cataplexic (Bet Now: $26.00) is three weeks between runs since racing over 1000m here where he got back to near last in the run and couldn’t really get involved from where he was but I thought he was okay late behind Pop Hero. Looking for further, which he gets here, and can sit closer in the run from the better gate.

11 Rogan Scent (Bet Now: $9.00) is an above average filly for the Fred Kersley yard who looks extremely hard to beat here. She ran in a 1400m maiden here last Wednesday on a soft track where she was prohibitive odds once again and this time she repaid the faith of punters with a commanding win. She can go right on with it.

6 Gunnago (Bet Now: $5.00) is a progressive gelding for Jason Pateman who is two for two this campaign. Bolted up fresh at Northam before coming here last Wednesday and aided by a lovely box seat trail, he took the gap and burst through to win. Despite rising in depth/grade, I think he can measure up.

10 Jazari (Bet Now: $101.00) might be one of the outsiders here but I think she represents the value. She resumed behind Gunnago here last Wednesday and I thought her effort was very good from the back in a race that didn’t appear to suit her. She’s bred to swim, fitter, down in the weights and races well second up.

8 Profit Street (Bet Now: $5.00) on top for me. He deserves another crack at blacktype because his form in recent times, albeit in benchmark grade, has been very good, the latest a win here a fortnight back over 1300m. He loves give in the track, 1200m suits, on the minimum and Parnham rides.

1 First Among Equals (Bet Now: $2.40) is the class runner engaged hence the impost. His Beaufine effort a fortnight ago was very good I thought with the weight. On face value, disappointing, but keep in mind he was fresh and had to give the weight. Has to do the same again, but this time he’s fitter and he excels on soft ground.

3 Dezzies Dream (Bet Now: $9.00) is a talented mare that resumes for Team Williams. This mare hasn’t raced since the Autumn Carnival where she tried really hard to pick up some blacktype but just couldn’t. Looked sharp in a recent trial and I reckon she’ll be wound up to get that blacktype. Won’t get a better chance.

8 Romelo (Bet Now: $8.00) will be better suited at 2000m+, but gee I think he’ll take some beating here. Resumed over 1400m here two weeks ago and I thought his effort, for a stayer fresh, was excellent behind Friaresque. He loves a bit of give in the track, should improve naturally and Pike takes over.

1 Jaspara (Bet Now: $8.00) is a bit of a tease but he delivered finally last Wednesday over 1700m here where he had a nice sit near the speed before Parnham asked for the big effort and while he didn’t quicken, he toughed it out strongly. That tells me that the mile here will be no issue and he draws to get a lovely run.

2 Anvil Green (Bet Now: $41.00) comes through that race won by Jaspara and I think just forget he went around. Son of Sebring was back near last in a slowly run affair and just couldn’t come on, not being able to build momentum. If we get a genuine speed here, don’t be surprised to see him figure in the money somewhere.

NEXT BEST: Race Three Number 4 Rosewood Hill

VALUE: Race Seven Number 8 Profit Street
