One of the bigger race days on the Central Coast comes around on Friday with Wyong Cup Day, supported also by the Listed Mona Lisa Stakes (1350m). The weather forecast is for showers, the track is soft (6) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race One (12:50) : Biochem Water Maiden Plate 1200m:
Back Me: 9 Masipag (Bet Now: $7.00) resumes here for James Cummings after debuting at Beaumont-Newcastle in April where she ran a close up second to Lubiton. First trial this time in was great, the second one was ordinary, so it’s hard to know where she is at. I’ll take the gamble though.
Big Danger: 4 Vernier (Bet Now: $5.00) debuted at Beaumont-Newcastle a tick under four weeks ago where she attempted to lead all the way but pulled up lame behind Bob’s Ticket. Randwick trial win since looked sharp and ran time. Draws to lead and use her speed, and she is a definite winning chance.
Roughie: 5 Brittany (Bet Now: $11.00) has been a bit of a flop for Godolphin after promising a bit early on in her career, but she gets her chance. Ran at Gosford a tick over three weeks back and didn’t have the best of luck behind Gadfly, never really clear and wasn’t allowed to extend properly. McDonald jumps on from a good gate…as I said, if she is to break the maiden, this is the race.
Race Two (13:25) : Hunter Petroleum Products Handicap (Class 2) 1200m:
Back Me: 3 Sir Magic (Bet Now: $2.70) for me here. He resumed at Hawkesbury a fortnight back and was given a great steer from McDougall to get the job done and chase hard for a narrow but impressive victory. Bowman jumps on from a plum gate and has enormous upside to my eye. Hard to beat.
Big Danger: 1 Buon Natale (Bet Now: $3.00) ran at Beaumont-Newcastle two weeks ago and chased hard down the entire straight when a close up second to the handy type Mon Pere. He is the hard fit galloper engaged here and does map quite well I suspect.
Roughie: 2 Ravenwitch (Bet Now: $13.00) is a former Snowden galloper that is now with Kylie Gavenlock after not quite getting the job done when trained in Sydney. Hasn’t raced for 30 days, but on her day, she is a quality type who could easily beat this field. Market watch.
Race Three (14:05) : Central Coast Express Advocate Maiden Plate 1200m:
Back Me: 2 Call The Coppers (Bet Now: $13.00) is bursting to win a maiden and I think he gets his chance here. Two starts to kick off his career for two seconds, and both times he has been weak at the end of his races but on both occasions he has worked. I can’t see much pressure speed wise, and if he gets a cheap sectional, he’ll just about knock them off.
Big Danger: 12 Reach For Heaven (Bet Now: $5.00) is the clear watch horse. First starter for Kris Lees who is well bred and gets the services of Bowman on debut. Didn’t appear to do much in a Gosford trial, but the big key is the booking of Bowman. Clear mounting yard and market watch.
Roughie: 11 Pittsburgh (Bet Now: $8.00) is the quality in the field having contested a couple of Group races during his short career, and at his second start he was six lengths off Yankee Rose. Brings that form to a Wyong maiden and he’d spank them. Hard to trust though given he has only placed once in six outings.
Race Four (14:40) : Senpos Da Vinci Handicap (65) 1300m:
Back Me: Leaning towards 6 Uthred (Bet Now: $5.50) in what looks a very handy three year old race. He was a strong maiden winner two back at Kembla Grange (Beat home a subsequent multiple winner) before being outclassed in the Rosebud behind Thronum. This looks more his level I suspect and he should take some beating.
Big Danger: 5 Calabasas (Bet Now: $2.00) resumed at Gosford on August 11 and chased hard all the way but had to settle for a close up second to Super Too, who absolutely bolted in here on Sunday to frank that form. Start prior he was under four lengths off McNeil Stakes winner Defcon in the Black Opal. Home track, fitter, has the form…ticks the boxes.
Roughie: 1 Courtly (Bet Now: $9.00) is a handy galloper for Beaver Schofield who ran over 1400m at Scone last Friday and I think the fact he was near the inside cost him the win as he was bloused late by two runners out wide with momentum and on the best ground. Trained on the track and should get a lovely sit. Hard to beat.
Race Five (15:20) : Doyalson Wyee RSL Club Springtime Handicap (75) 1100m:
Back Me: 3 No Bad Blood (Bet Now: $13.00) was confidently backed to win last start during the Taree Carnival and aided by a lovely ride from Jay Ford, the eight year old surged late to finish best in what looked a pretty strong race. Start prior he ran fourth to impressive Rosehill winner Chetwood. That reads well for a race like this.
Big Danger: 1 Royal Tudor (Bet Now: $6.50) is a talented gelding that resumes for Rodney Ollerton. He ran during the Autumn/Winter and was fantastic for the most part, but probably found the class of the Queensland Guineas a bit rich behind Tsaritsa, and by then I think he was looking for a break. Comes here with no trials, but does sprint well fresh and has a touch of class on his side.
Roughie: 7 Alaskan Wolf (Bet Now: $11.00) ran at Canterbury a tick over three weeks ago and was simply dreadful behind talented mare Nieta, who has failed with excuses since. Alaskan Wolfs three runs prior were outstanding which followed a brilliant trial. Forgive her for the failure. Knockout chance.
Race Six (15:55) : Winning Appliances Mona Lisa Stakes 1350m:
Back Me: Perfect chance for 1 Elle Lou (Bet Now: $2.10) to pick up blacktype and I think she will. Ran in the Toy Show last time out and chased hard all the way to run a close up third to a Group l performer in Pearls. This looks a significant drop in depth and that was her first run in five weeks. Hard to beat.
Big Danger: 4 Typhoon Jolie (Bet Now: $8.00) has been given a month freshen up since running a game fourth to Knit ‘N’ Purl at Randwick, beaten three lengths but was far from disgraced. Looks ready to run a beauty here based on her Hawkesbury trial win last week, which was sharp and the time backed that up. Major threat.
Roughie: 3 Frill Seeking (Bet Now: $6.00) ran over 1500m at Rosehill last time out and loomed to win the race but she just didn’t quite run the trip out and was grabbed late by Harlem Lady, who backed up and ran okay at Randwick. Back to 1300m is a big tick, as is a likely firmer surface, as also will the freshen up.
Race Seven (16:35) : Carlton Mid Wyong Gold Cup 2100mm:
Back Me: I really don’t know what happened to 3 Sacred Master (Bet Now: $4.60) in the Premiers Cup Prelude. Off a strong Australian debut, I was really keen on him but he did bugger all behind Allergic. Second up syndrome perhaps? Not sure, but if he is to be heading towards the Caulfield Cup, you’d want to see him win here or at least run in the placings, attacking the line
Big Danger: 2 Orbec (Bet Now: $6.00) was specked in betting in the Premies Cup Prelude and he justified that support with a really solid sixth to Allergic, who was a tragedy beaten last Saturday. He placed in this race last year, and based on the trials and resumption, he looks to be going much better 12 months on.
Roughie: 8 Olympic Academy (Bet Now: $7.50) was backed at odds to win the Taree Cup last time out and aided by a brilliant steer from form rider Aaron Bullock, the veteran got the job done. The negative for him is of course the class and depth, as well as the fact it was a bunched finish. Still, he has to be respected as an outside winning chance.
Race Eight (17:10) : Bishop Collins Accountants Handicap (63) 1600m:
Back Me: 1 Balboa Park (Bet Now: $5.50) for me here in a tricky race. He ran over 1400m at Kembla Grange a tick under two weeks back where he attempted to lead all the way and just felt the pinch late when running fourth to the in form galloper First Approval. Up to the mile will really suit this Waterhouse/Bott runner, he’ll be on speed and I am sure he will be in it for a long way.
Big Danger: 6 The Iron Maiden (Bet Now: $11.00) is a tough galloper who is never far away from the action. She ran over the Gosford mile last Tuesday and chased strongly down the entire straight when a close up second to Rock Mylady. She has a really good record on her home track and she’ll be strong late.
Roughie: 8 Bandit Bay (Bet Now: $21.00) has been given a near three week break since running at Scone where he ran a close up fourth to Nadacheva, beaten just under a length in a blanket finish. The runner up came out and bolted up last week, so the form reads well, as does his two runs prior.
