29/4/2023 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Sandown, Anniversary Vase day

3 Prinzerro (Bet Now:  $SP.00) gets the nod for me. Son of Pierro for Phillip Stokes that is on debut off the back of some pretty sharp jumpout work at Pakenham, the latest seeing him lead throughout to win on the Synthetic and ran decent time in doing so. Should land near the front from the good draw here and in a limited race, I think he’s the way to go.

2 Liberami (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Griffiths/De Kock trained colt that is having start one. Son of Turn Me Loose that has jumped out pretty well at Cranbourne in readiness for start one and this stable are having a good run with their younger horses, and Joe Bowditch is a rider in form, so I think watch the market and see what it does with him.

6 Subsix (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Fastnet Rock colt for Lloyd Kennewell that is on debut. This juvenile has jumped out a couple of times in readiness for start one, the first jumpout moving well on speed before a couple of weeks ago, he found a very testing track, got to the outside fence and worked to the line under light riding. Stable is flying, he has to be respected in a winnable race on paper.

Safe play is 2 Sing For Peace (Bet Now:  $SP.00) for Patrick Payne. He has done little wrong in a seven start career and seems to be heading in the right direction. Lovely ride from Dee saw him win over 3000m, making the mid race move to find the front and was there to be beaten but found under pressure to lift late and win. More depth here, and back in trip, but hard fit, in form and is genuine.

4 Never Again (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is rising nine years of age but he still looks like he is maintaining a healthy zest for racing, as seen a fortnight back in the VOBIS Gold Heath. He got back to near last in the run and was never really a threat to El Patroness but you had to like the way he found the line to run second. He can be hit and miss but if he runs up to last start, he’ll take beating.

3 Irish Butterfly (Bet Now:  $SP.00) commands respect. He has been in work a little while but it is seemingly holding his form pretty well. Strong win last time out at Sandown. He led throughout under Gaudray and was there to be run down but found under pressure and safely held a margin on the line for a gutsy victory. More depth here, but good racing style and will give himself every chance.

11 Threetimesalady (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks a filly with a decent engine under the hood. Peter Moody trained filly that debuted over 1200m at Pakenham and I thought she was impressive despite the narrow margin. She got better as the race went on and was strong through the line. Extra 100m looks ideal and the stable should always be respected with these lightly raced younger gallopers.

4 Charming Di (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one of the leading contenders here for John Moloney. This filly resumed three weeks ago here over 1200m and I thought did a really good job in defeat from off the speed when a close up fourth to Holly Lolly. Punters said it would be a prep run so that was very encouraging for her prep and fitter, up to 1300m, she appeals big time as a key winning chance.

5 Clarity (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks hard to beat. Market wanted her with confidence when resuming three weeks back here and when she surged hard late, she looked the winner, but was nabbed on the peg by Holly Lolly. 1300m is probably as far as she wants, but the return was encouraging and that form has been proven at blacktype level from last Saturday. She’ll look the winner at some stage.

5 Toronto Terrier (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to pick himself. He ran in the VOBIS Gold Mile two weeks ago over the mile here and was very good in defeat given he was a break between runs, just failing to finish it off when second to Russian Dancer, with a big gap to the rest. Back to 1400m I do like and gets decent weight relief. Tricky gate, but he’s clearly the one to beat IMO.

6 Deekay (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should land on the bunny and prove hard to beat. He ran a beauty two back in the Bendigo Guineas before going to Sandown where they rode him with a sit and it didn’t work at all. He should have finished much closer and was unlucky. Meech takes over, and the script is there: Find the front, get control and prove hard to run down.

2 Castillian (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can be a definite improver here for Patrick Payne, a stable that is starting to find form. This guy was met with market support when second up over 1200m here where he got a fair way back in the run and while he was never a winning threat, I liked the way he found the line late in the piece behind Valiancy. Good record at this distance range and should be hard fit now.

9 Alectrona (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a filly I have time for and want to give her another chance. Was keen on her when she debuted over this trip at Sandown and she was trucking in the run outside the speed but when Bates asked her to go, the wheels were spinning on the ground and ground to the line when third. Love her back on firmer footing, lands in a good spot from the gate and off her jumpout work prior to the debut, she’s good enough to beat these.

7 Legacies (Bet Now:  $SP.00) commands respect for Peter Moody. Debuted last Friday over 1200m at Cranbourne and while I doubt she beat much, you had to like the ticker she showed to fend them off and win. She was there to be beaten but she found under pressure to fend them off and get the job done in pretty good style. Bred to eat up further, in the right camp, hard to beat.

10 Stellar Mofeed (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1400m. She was big odds when debuting over 1100m at Bendigo and while she was never a winning factor, I didn’t mind the way she found the line late when third to a sharp debut winner, Long Lost Friend. Not sure she is good enough to take this out, but can certainly fill a first four spot.

9 South Of Houston (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a smart filly for the Price/Kent camp that is hard to beat against these. Game second here fresh before going to a Sale maiden where she looked a moral on paper and duly saluted, leading throughout and pretty much going around like a barrier trial in a canter. Lands on speed, hard fit now and has change up speed. Can take this out for sure.

4 Kaygeebee (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a stablemate of the top tip that should appreciate a drop back in grade/depth. He has raced down the straight at Flemington in both runs back, both times seeing him finish behind stablemate and potential star, What You Need. This looks more his level and despite coming back to 1000m, he appeals as a key winning chance.

2 Fission (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is dangerous. Griffiths/De Kock trained three year old that contested the VOBIS Gold Dash over 1200m where he got back off the speed and tried to make ground, but the 1200m and wet ground brought him undone behind dominant winner She Dances. He is a short course animal so 1000m is ideal and if the track is on the firmer side, he can run a much improved race.

3 Do Ya Punk (Bet Now:  $SP.00) only has to run up to the resumption to be taking this out IMO. He resumed over 1100m at Bendigo and was one of the better runs of the meeting, rocketing to the line late from off the speed when third to El Salto. Good upside to come, sits off a fast speed and if he’s within range, he has the finale to overhaul them.

10 Snapped (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has a touch of quality and should be better for the last start effort, which came at Flemington down the straight where she took a little while to wind into her but was good to the line when a close up third to Veranskova. That was her first run since Feb 4 so you’d think with last start under the belt, she commands respect.

11 Tycoon Humma (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a definite winning chance. She is four weeks between runs since contesting the Manihi at Morphettville over 1100m where she got a fair way back in the run but loved the way she found the line late when third to Little Miss Kubi. Good record at this track and with a good speed in front, she’ll get her chance.

12 Winning Bid (Bet Now:  $SP.00) seems a very one paced type so I think with that in mind, 2800m here looks ideal. She has had a really good grounding for this, with several 2000m runs and a 2200m run in there. Latest run was over 2000m at Ballarat where I thought Olly gave her a peach but she was very one paced when asked and just whacked to the line when second to Tewkesbury. Olly sticks and overall, this is one of the worst editions of the St Leger I’ve seen, so despite being a maiden, she’s hard to beat.

1 Midnight Glow (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has the A1 form to give this a shake. Far from disgraced two back in the St Leger Trial at Bendigo before going to 2400m at Sandown in the Galilee Final where he drove hard late from off the speed, just missing out on the win when a narrow second to Bengal Boy. Draws to do no work in the run and with the leading form, he commands respect.

3 Highland Hill (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the one I am very wary of. They rode him very warm in the Galilee Final last time and tried his guts out but just couldn’t quite see it through when fourth to Bengal Boy. The prior efforts suggested that he is a much better horse when ridden with a sit so if that can eventuate here, he has to be given a serious chance.

1 Cardinal Gem (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is hard to beat here. Three weeks between runs since a dominant win in the Victoria Handicap where he was the only horse you wanted to be on in the run. Just a matter of Childs pushing the button and once he did, the gelding responded and drew clear late to win well. Can only see room for improvement and is clearly the one for me.

6 Lady Of Honour (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a break and should just about be at peak fitness. Team Hayes trained mare that was a complete forgive/forget fresh run in the Abell before a much a better effort at Sandown in the Victoria Handicap behind Cardinal Gem, just struggling to put them away in the testing conditions. Provided the track is on the firmer side, she appeals for sure.

7 Bermadez (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is too good of a horse to pen off one plain run. That came in The Discovery at Geelong where he was never a factor given the race shape and track pattern but was solid late, clocking good late splits behind Curran. Fitter and up to 1400m, his best is clearly good enough to measure up, so don’t dismiss him.

8 Party For One (Bet Now:  $SP.00) allowed Melbourne punters to get use to what Sydney punters have been accustomed to with her, getting back and not getting the rub of the green, or just getting too far back and catching the eye. That was the case in the first run for the Price/Kent camp three weeks ago but she was very good from the back behind Foxicon, who got control on speed and that was the difference between winning and losing, the race shape/pattern. Just any hint of early speed from this girl and surely she’ll take beating.

6 Karalee Rocks (Bet Now:  $SP.00) seems a bit on the short side but no denying she is a mare with good talent. Made her Victorian debut for Lindsey Smith on Good Friday at Geelong and she would have been a moral beat had she not got clear but thankfully the gaps appeared for Olly and she drove hard late to win. Gate makes things tricky but talent wise, she’s the best horse in the race.

4 Galgani (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has a good second up record and has a bit of quality when she’s right. She had specking at a longer price when resuming here three weeks back and didn’t do a bad job from off the speed, making up some headway and was beaten just over two lengths by Foxicon. Like her up in trip and with a more positive ride, she can take this out.

NEXT BEST: Race Ten Number 8 Party For One

LONG SHOT: Race Eight Number 12 Winning Bid
