28/6/2025 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Rosehill, WJ Mckell Cup day

Ten races will be run and won at Rosehill on Saturday for McKell Cup Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.

1 Crafty Eagle (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to be sneaky flying and should take beating here. He ran here two weeks ago where he got a fair way out of his ground and spotted those in front a start but I did really like the way he closed his race off in defeat behind King Of Roseau. He will prove very hard to beat against these.

11 Miss Spacegirl (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key threat for Team Freedman after her effort in the Midway a fortnight back. She got off speed and was chasing from a fair way out but she ran through the pain barrier and found the line strongly in defeat. Leading contender I say.

3 Kingston Charm (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a John Thompson trained mare that resumes. She is first up, having not raced since Jan 25 in a Midway at Randwick over the mile when closing off well in a race not really run to suit behind Magnatear. Better suited over further but has trialled well so watch betting.

5 New Pharoah (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is bursting to win a Highway and I think he gets a great chance here. He ran in the Highway here a few weeks ago and kept finding the line with purpose from off the speed when fourth to Boys Night Out. Like him back at Rosehill again and with a better run in transit, he rates highly.

3 Warrior For Peace (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key threat. He ran third to Boys Night Out a few weeks back in the Highway here. He was good late but did seem to have his chance when third. He should be strong late and overall, this isn’t a deep contest.

4 Monte Maximus (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since May 30 when taking care of an average bunch at Casino, handling the wet track easily and was strong in the run to the line. Maps ideally and stable should be respected when they come to town.

9 Puntin (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to have returned well and is one of the key chances. He resumed over 1250m at Canterbury when just off the speed throughout before angling clear and loomed to win but just found one better in The Great Houdini. Fitter, back to his own age, he appeals.

5 Hellbent On You (Bet Now:  $SP.00) steps up to 1400m after racing over 1300m here two weesk ago when back near last in the run and while she was never a winning threat, she kept finding the line and was pretty good in defeat. If she can settle closer, she’s dangerous.

2 Northern Eyes (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and look to give his all, as seen two weeks back here behind Mickey’s Medal where he attempted to lead throughout and gave a strong kick but was nabbed late. Good racing style, he commands respect.

7 Changing Colours (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is several weeks between runs since racing over the mile at Sandown where she tried her guts out and looked the winner but just found one better in Suances. Fresh legs and back to 1400m, she has a touch of qualitya about her.

11 Fairway Star (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has returned well and should appreciate a rise in trip. She resumed over 1300m here a fortnight back where she got a fair way out of her ground and while she was never a winning threat, her finale was sound. Fitter, good upside to come, she’s in the mix.

6 Pajanti (Bet Now:  $SP.00) ran down the track behind Sacred Rocks two weeks back. She got too far out of her ground, not using the inside gate to advantage, and was never really a factor. I think if she can settle closer in the run, she’s going well enough to threaten.

11 Berezka (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should be at peak fitness. She ran over 1100m at Warwick Farm last start. She got off speed and worked home strongly but couldn’t quite get there when second to The Unique Star. Hard fit now, she’s good enough to win.

1 Spywire (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an enigmatic but a talented animal that resumes for Ciaron Maher. He resumes, having not raced since Jan 25 over 1000m at the Sunny Coast when placing after getting off speed. He does seem best when he jumps and runs, so if that can eventuate here, he can win.

7 Sovereign Hill (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an interesting runner. He resumes for GaiBott, over a year between runs since racing over 1400m here when on speed and fought on really well in defeat behind Swiftfalcon. His trial work has been strong, watch betting.

3 Sir Artie (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to have returned well and takes beaing for Team Archibald. He resumed ove 1350m at Doomben where he took a little to wind into his work but didn’t mind the way he finished his race off in defeat behind The Inflictor. Fitter and up in trip, he takes beating.

7 Mickey’s Medal (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is in a real pueple patch at present for Team Archibald and is one of the leading contenders. He has won two on the bounce, the latest being a fortnight back here. He got a beaut run in transit before being clicked up and away he went to win well. Leading contender.

6 Zouatica (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since racing over 1400m at Randwick where he was tardy away and got back to near last in the run. He settled near last and never got involved when down the track behind Thunderlips. His best is good enough to threaten.

2 Alegron (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can run an improved race. I was keen on him running well in the Brisbane Cup and on face value, he was terrible, but given the race shape, he was never really a factor and never going to threaten. He can run a much improved race here.

4 Speycaster (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a knockout hope. He ran a much improved race in the Winter Cup two weeks back. He got into a decent spot in transit off speed and kept chasing with purpose in a pretty good effort in defeat. Not sure I could back him to win but is a first four contender.

10 Bacio Del Mist (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is capable at odds. She ran in the Winter Cup two weeks back where she got back to near last in the run and while she was never a winning threat, she made up some headway. Senior jock on, she can settle closer…dangerous.

12 Federer (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a good horse so I want to give him another chance. He resumed a few weeks back where the track was a bit shifty for his liking and he couldn’t quite dash well enough. Fitter, his best is clearly good enough.

15 Misterkipchoge (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is finding it hard to win but that said, he’s racing well. He ran over 2000m here a fortnight back when getting into a decent spot near the speed and tried hard but just lacked the change up speed to put them away behind Freight Train. He’ll be around the mark…just backing him to win is another thing.

13 Kazalark (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is fourth up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. He ran over 1550m at Canterbury last time out where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, I didn’t mind his finale in defeat. Hard fit, home track, dangerous at odds.

5 Belvedere Boys (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Matty Dunn trained gelding that comes through the Lord Mayors Cup from a few weeks back where he was first up and I just think condition gave out. Fitter and up in trip, he’s an improver at odds.

3 Elamaz (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a European import that makes his Aussie debut for GaiBott. He showed good promise when racing over there, his last start being a Group ll placing in Germany. His trial work has been quite good and the form around him reads very well.

2 Loch Eagle (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a query at 2000m but he does have a fast run mile lead in under the belt, where he gave them a start and a beating in an impressive performance. He is the class runner and that is going to carry him a long way.

13 Lady Extreme (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to have returned in excellent order and fitter, up to 1200m, it all points to her after a first up Midway win a few weeks ago when giving them a start and a beating, getting better as the race went on to score. She looks one with good upside, she’s the one to beat.

2 Eye Of The Fire (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Team Archibald trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since Feb 15 over 1300m at Randwick when off speed and kept chasing in a good effort in defeat behind With Your Blessing. Trial work has been strong and he flies fresh.

5 Flying Destiny (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an improver for Michael Freedman. He resumed at Canterbury when three wide no cover for the trip and the hard run just told on him late in the piece, feeling the pinch late behind World Alliance. Better run in transit, he’s an improver at odds.
