Ten races have been set down for Ascot this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (14:53) MCA Polytrack Plate Plate 1000m
3 Afireofgidgeecoals (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks a pretty smart colt for Dan Morton and confident he can make a winning debut. He trialled last week at Belmont over 1000m, winning, comfortably, and ran decent enough time. Looks above average and despite this race carrying depth, I think he’s the one to beat.
8 Aurum Belle (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a daughter of Snitzel that is on debut for Neville Parnham. She is 2/2 at the trials, firstly at 400m before an impressive display last week over 1000m at Belmont. Another with good ability it seems, watch betting.
5 Marcos (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is on debut for Luke Fernie and is dangerous. He hasn’t set the world on fire in trial work but this stable can get them to fire on debut, as seen with the 2YO winner last Saturday here. He’s a definite yard and market watch.
Race 2. (15:28) Wittens Irrigation & Design Handicap (72+) 1600m
4 Asif (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) to continue the winning ways. Loved the way he knuckled down with purpose in the straight to wear down Fancy Red and get the job done. See no reason to jump off him and is the clear top seed for mine.
2 Fancy Red (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the key threat after racing last Saturday at this track/distance when on speed and she tried hard but had no answers late for the finale of Asif. She will press forward, hard fit…can she improve enough to turn the tables? Time will tell.
6 Deamber (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is four weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance. She landed in a decent spot near the speed and did try hard but couldn’t quite see it through behind Redback Flyer. Not sure I could back her to win but is one for exotics.
Race 3. (16:04) Mrs Mac's Handicap (1MW) 1000m
3 Snow God (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) to make a winning return for David Harrison. He hasn’t raced since Sep 13 when a bit on the plain side at Belmont and was spelled soon after. Looks to have trialled up really well for the return and good guide that Pike is booked fresh.
9 Excess Baggage (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Luke Fernie trained filly that is on the up and promising. Big win at the midweeks at Belmont last time over 1200m, giving them a start and a beating in an impressive display. Back to 1000m is the concern but if she’s within range, she has the finale to win.
1 Military Power (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes to Ascot after a resumption at Belmont where he was ridden very quiet, borderline a barrier trial, and was pretty good late without threatening behind Tycoon Harry. More positive ride, he’s dangerous.
Race 4. (16:43) Ascot 1000 Guineas 1800m
2 Wonderfully Made (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks the clear top seed for mine. She was dominant at the midweeks at Belmont last time, leading throughout and she gave nothing else a look in to win well. 1800m should be fine, Pike aboard, she is the one to beat.
1 Monte Tremezzo (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) was a strong winner at Pinjarra two weeks ago, knuckling down with purpose late and drove hard to score. She looks a horse on the up and I think does command respect here.
5 Masmelo (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) steps up to 1800m after a resumption over 1400m at Belmont when off speed and while she was never threatening, she did make up ground and was pretty good in defeat. Fitter and up in trip, good upside, she’s a definite improver.|
Race 5. (17:19) Peters Investments Handicap (1MW) 1800m
10 Pressurised (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) for me. Michael Grantham trained three year old that I reckon has WA Derby aspirations. He won over 2100m last Wednesday at Belmont, loving the rise in trip and was dominant in the run to the line. Back to 1800m is fine, he’s on the up, hard to beat.
12 Southern Firetail (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance where he had a suck run in transit but was very one paced in the straight when third to Lillian, who won again last Saturday to frank the form. Another with Derby aspirations, he commands respect.
6 Lien Hyphen (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) was an impressive track/distance winner on Challenge Day, sitting just off speed before angling clear and she made a mess of them in a dominant display. Harder here but off that win, she appeals as a key chance.
Race 6. (17:59) Robert Harvey Memorial Handicap (72+) 1000m
4 Amaroo Star (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is flying for Simon Miller and despite the four week gap, he’s top seed. He won at this track/distance on Jan 31, getting the sweet sit in behind and finished best to score. Tick over trial was sharp and off a good speed, he’ll launch late and finish best.
3 Haida Gwaii (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) was an all the way winner on Challenge Day at this track/distance. She led throughout and credit to her, she found under pressure to fend them off and score. Looks the likely leader and will take running down.
8 Sunny Honey (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance when near the speed and was there to threaten but first up, condition just gave out late. Maps ideally and better for the run, he’s dangerous at odds.
Race 7. (18:36) Tabtouch Handicap (0MWLY) 1400m
8 Later Alligator (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is hard to beat after an eye catching effort two weeks ago over 1300m at Pinjarra when off speed and worked home pretty well late in the piece behind Hey Pino when second. Like the rise to 1400m for him and is the one with a sense of timing.
6 Hewilldous (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Matt Nash trained gelding that resumes, having his first run for the new stable. Last run was Nov 15 over this track/distance when held but far from disgraced behind Fast Harry. Trial was encouraging and fresh at 1400m signals clear intent IMO.
7 Spank Appeal (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since resuming over 1200m here. He got back off speed and was never really a factor behind Bird’s The Word. He had trialled well enough prior so fitter and up to 1400m, I’ll give him another look.
Race 8. (19:12) Lex Piper Stakes 1600m
3 Dominatus (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) picks himself for mine. Stride before/after he was in front in the Challenge Stakes but on the line, the bob didn’t ho his way. He looks the early top seed for the WA Derby and off the return, he should be beating this lot.
2 The Crimson Pirate (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) broke the maiden in a Class 1 on Challenge Day here over 1500m where he looked a good thing on paper and duly saluted. Good upside to come, confident he can measure up.
6 Dark Ambition (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) steps up to the mile after a maiden win last Wednesday at Belmont where he got better as the race went on to score. Needs to overcome a tricky gate but I think is in the mix.
Race 9. (19:50) Drummond Golf Handicap (66+) 1400m
7 Hubble’s Dragon (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks a smart three year old for Dan Morton and is one of the hardest to beat. He ran in the WA 3YO Magic Millions two weeks ago at Pinjarra when off speed and worked home with real purpose when second to Twisted Steel. Racing like 1400m suits and strikes a very winnable race for mine.
12 So Nataya (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) steps up to 1400m after racing a fortnight back at Pinjarra over 1300m when off speed and held up at times but was pretty good late when eventually clear behind Hey Pino. Like the rise to 1400m and maps ideally.
6 Blazing Emerald (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Dam Morton trained mare that resumes. She hasn’t raced since Dec 6 when far from disgraced over the mile here behind Trio in a race far stronger than this. Fresh at 1400m I like and despite no public trials, I’d watch betting.
Race 10. (20:25) Quayclean Handicap (66+) 1200m
5 Rock ‘N’ The Jam (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) takes a power of beating if he’s ready to go. He hasn’t raced since Feb 8 last year when a winner over the mile here. Has had issues but clearly has talent and liked the way he went in a recent Belmont trial so watch betting and see what it does but if he’s ready, I think he’s top seed.
2 Golden Vale (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes through the Pearl Classic from two weeks ago at Pinjarra. She got into a sweet spot in transit just off speed and I thought was there to win but just couldn’t quite pick up late when third. I think better for the run, can press forward, class is going to carry her a long way.
7 Nobellity (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday at this track/distance when leading and gave a sight but tired to finish down the track behind Sonoftheboss. Better suited here I feel…doubt she wins but can run first four.
