28/12/2019 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Randwick, Christmas Classic day

Nine races will be run and won at Randwick on Saturday where it is Christmas Classic Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out nine metres from the 1600m-Winning Post; Out seven metres for the remainder.

4 Nitrous (Bet Now: $6.50 TOP ODDS) will do me here in what looks a tricky 2YO race. Team Snowden trains this colt, who resumed over 1000m at Canberra in what looked a thin race for the babies and he made them look like camels, winning by a space, running a tick over 33 for the final 600m and did it without being fully extended. Harder here, but has the hard race experience under the belt and is a winner.

1 Bartley (Bet Now: $2.30 TOP ODDS) is a Team Snowden colt that was a very short priced elect when debuting at Kembla and despite doing a bit wrong early on in the straight, when he knuckled down, he put them away and was impressive at start one. Harder here, but gets gate one to get a soft run in transit and is a leading chance.

Interested to see how 3 Belieber (Bet Now: $3.90 TOP ODDS) goes. This Zoustar colt is first up for the WaterBott team, who hasn’t raced since debuting in the Breeders Plate when a solid fourth to Global Quest after doing work in the run. The trials leading in have been just fair I think, but he comes through what is usually a strong form reference and always have to respect the stable.

5 Kawaikini (Bet Now: $18.00 TOP ODDS) has an awful racing pattern but I reckon Jason Coyle has her flying. Ran under the lights at Canterbury last time outwhere she was back in the run on a night where those on speed were advantaged. Loved the way she found the the line the last 50m behind the in form Fituese. Fast run 1200m looks ideal and is a definite chance IMO.

8 Aquitaine (Bet Now: $3.30 TOP ODDS) is a little query in a strongly run 1200m race, but she’s 2/2 this prep for James Cummings and is right down in the weights. Resumed with a soft maiden win at Rosehill before going to the Kenso track where she had to work a bit harder for the win but got it. Would love to see her ridden cold and launch late. Not sure she wins sitting near the speed.

2 Stella Sea Sun (Bet Now: $10.00 TOP ODDS) is a quality mare for Kris Lees that resumes, having not raced since August 10 at Rosehill when a close up fourth to the well backed Prime Candidate, who at the time was flying. Just one soft trial leading into her resumption, so hard to get a real gauge on how forward she is, but has class/quality.

This just looks a perfect race for the Mitch Beer trained 8 Princess Cordelia (Bet Now: $8.00 TOP ODDS), who is four weeks between runs since scoring such an impressive Highway win at Rosehill where she was gifted the lead and Tim Clark took full advantage, controlling proceedings and giving nothing else a look in. Fresh legs, back to 1100m, she can revert to her old pattern of sitting back and unleashing late. One of the better gambles on the card.

1 Safe Landing (Bet Now: $8.00 TOP ODDS) is the class runner of the field, resuming for Kurt Goldman. This gelding hasn’t raced since the Country Championship Final when down the track behind Noble Boy. Comes here off the back of just one soft trial, but his form reads far superior to anything engaged here. Just have to wait and see what the market does.

This is a serious drop in grade/depth for 5 Katgully Red (Bet Now: $16.00 TOP ODDS), who has contested some decent races at his past couple. Far from disgraced two back at Hawkesbury before going to Warwick farm where he was very good in defeat behind an above average galloper in Embracer. Back to Highway grade, I think he can run a bold race.

Just how good is 13 Rocha Clock? (Bet Now: $3.20 TOP ODDS) Her win last Wednesday was stunning. Bombed the start by five lengths yet still finished best to score a massive win. The time was a few lengths off the maiden race, but given she bombed the start, I think that can be overlooked and trust the eye. She’s very good. Query is has that run busted her?

2 Mr Dependable (Bet Now: $3.10 TOP ODDS) is a WaterBott trained gelding that is building up a tidy record. Admittedly he got things to suit in front when resuming at Rosehill but still had to get the job done and did it impressively. Impavido came out of that race and ran well last week and with enormous upside, Nash on, he finds the front and is tough to run down.

7 Bigboyroy (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS) is crying out for more ground and he gets it here. Shared the spoils two back under the lights at Canterbury before backing up eight days later over 1500m at Rosehill where he wasn’t suited by the stop/start tempo of the race but really liked the way he found the line to run a narrow third to Bobby Dee. If the tempo is more genuine here, he’ll take some beating.

Third up at 1400m, I’m really keen on the Team Snowden trained 3 Poetic Charmer (Bet Now: $8.00). Was really keen on him three weeks ago at Rosehill but remaining at 1200m just brought him undone I think with the better turn of foot produced by The Party Girl was the difference. Now up to 1400m, I think he’s one of the better bets on the card.

10 Leviathan (Bet Now: $4.00) is a Team Snowden trained three year old that was heavily supported when resuming a few weeks back over 1200m at Newcastle and if you were on, you’d have to say he was disappointing, but taking emotion/punting out of it, the run was very good behind Burning Crown. That horse got it cheap in front and those behind were going to find it hard to win, so Leviathan was a definite pass mark. Hard to beat here.

5 Laure Me In (Bet Now: $18.00) is a very interesting runner. Formerly with the McEvoy camp, he’s now with David Pfieffer, who is building up a pretty good record with tried horses. This gelding was hot and cold when racing in Melbourne, but when he was right, he was a Saturday class horse for sure. Recent Randwick trial was solid enough, but the late market flucs will be the guide.

Looks pretty straight forward here with 8 Superium (Bet Now: $2.70), who was well backed when resuming over 1100m here two weeks ago when sitting off a good speed before angling clear late and surging the final few strides to get up and win. Heading towards the Magic Millions and if he’s going to be competitive there, needs to be winning this.

7 Tony’s Reward (Bet Now: $21.00) is a definite winning chance. Was specked at odds three weeks ago at Rosehill and if you got the overs, you’d be feeling sick thinking about what happened. I think he should have run top three had he got clear air but pretty much went around like it was a barrier trial. Clear air here, he can be dangerous.

Old mate 5 Drachenfels (Bet Now: $21.00) is teasing again. Two runs back from a spell have been very good, the latest coming at this track/distance last Saturday when pretty solid in defeat behind a mare that is flying, Taniko. Drops from 88 to 78 grade, so creeping up in the weights, but gets a good speed in front and will be charging late.

Creeping up in the weights, but hard to get away from 3 Signore Fox (Bet Now: $2.60) and what he did in the Razor Sharp at this track/distance two weeks ago. Had no right to win given where he was on the turn but he unleashed an amazing finale to get up and win right on the peg. Did carry 58.5kg to win first up, so I don’t think the weight will be an issue.

Since a freshen up, 2 Glenall (Bet Now: $7.50) is flying. Narrow second in the Starlight two back before contesting the Razor Sharp where he was wide with cover before blending into the race beautifully and looking the winner for a few strides, but was nabbed near the line by Signore Fox. Proven weight carrier and has to be respected the way he’s going at the moment.

6 Boss Lane (Bet Now: $23.00) is a track specialist for Ron Quinton who should take good improvement off his resumption in the Razor Sharp where he paraded like he would need the run and that’s how it panned out when down the track but was far from disgraced. Think he’ll come on from that and can never totally pen him when he’s racing at the Randwick 1200m.

7 Phaistos (Bet Now: $3.20) looks one of the better bets on the program. Resumed on Cup Day at Flemington and was good late. Then freshened up and raced over 1400m here two weeks ago when off the speed in an on pace dominated affair but worked home really well. He’s got enormous upside and a big tick is getting out to 1600m.

9 Matowi (Bet Now: $12.00) is a Chris Waller trained gelding who has been excellent this time in. Was well specked when racing at this track/distance a fortnight ago and under a 12/10 steer from Bossy, he was far too good for his rivals. Yes the margin was narrow, but he half turned it up and waited for them so the margin flattered his rivals. He can go on with it here.

Very interesting runner is 6 Dabiyr (Bet Now: $12.00), a Chris Waller stayer that resumes. This bloke hasn’t raced since the Colin Stephen during the Spring when a battling fourth to Stampede, who controlled things beautifully in front and gave nothing from behind a look in. Been given a good break and looked pretty good in a Rosehill trial.

Going a bit wide here with 10 Raqeeq (Bet Now: $13.00), who is second up for Chris Waller. He had just the one soft trial leading into his resumption over 1500m at Rosehill and clocked the best late splits behind Dr Dependable. Has since had a searching trial at Canterbury, winning it, so he’s forward enough I feel for this 1800m assignment and each way, he’ll do me.

3 Bobby Dee (Bet Now: $10.00) has more to come I feel. Had trialled up enormous prior to a first up flop at Kembla. He then raced over 1500m at Rosehill a few weeks back where Sam Clenton got him into the A1 spot just off the speed and in what turned into a sprint home, he was able to finish best and get the job done. Has upside and up to the mile off a genuine tempo should suit.

9 National Guard (Bet Now: $10.00) interests me at a price and he is one who I could entertain each way. Former Irish galloper for Richard Litt that trialled well at Nowra prior to resuming over 1400m here where it was pretty much a barrier trial for him. Eased back from the wide gate off a slow tempo and clocked the best late splits of the race. Can sit much closer from the inside gate and he looks the overs.

BEST BET: Race Three Number 8 Princess Cordelia

NEXT BEST: Race Eight Number 7 Phaistos

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 10 Raqeeq
