The Brisbane Summer Carnival continues this Saturday at Eagle Farm, highlighted by Alligator Blood, who contests the Vo Rogue Plate (1400m). The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out four metres for the entire circuit.
Vo Rogue Plate 🏆: View the Field for the Vo Rogue Plate
Race 1. (13:08) MAGIC MILLIONS INSURANCE 1800m
Looks a perfect race for the Barry Lockwood trained 2 Naked (Bet Now: $5.50), who resumed over the mile here two weeks ago and really liked the way he finished his race off when third to the above average three year old Ziemba. Out to 1800m looks a big tick for this gelding and the overall depth is nowhere near as strong. Keen on him against these.
Couldn’t back 6 Slow Hands (Bet Now: $5.00) to win with borrowed money but concede Kelly Schweida has him going well enough to be competitive here. Very ordinary effort two back at the Sunny Coast but went to Doomben and ran a much improved race when a closing second to Starbuster. Up to 1800m on the bigger track, he can win, but it won’t be with my coin on.
Up to 1800m should suit the Chris Munce trained 4 Lucky Jackson (Bet Now: $10.00), who is a few weeks between runs since racing over 1400m at the Sunny Coast when back and finding the line really well in defeat when second to Metson. Can sit closer in the run from gate one if need be and the claim for Huxtable certainly helps.
Race 2. (13:47) TAB Handicap 1500m
Despite coming back 100m in trip, 11 Ziemba (Bet Now: $2.45) looks the pony to bet on. Was heavily backed when racing at the mile here two weeks ago and Rodd just put him into the dream spot off the pace and once he found clear air, it was race over and he bolted in. On an upward spiral and I think he’ll be too good for them once again.
Fitter and up to 1500m are a couple of big ticks for the Team Edmonds trained 7 Maslow (Bet Now: $4.60), who was three weeks between runs when racing over 1400m here two weeks back and chased strongly, being game in defeat but well held when second to the above average filly Jeweliana. Good set up for him here, so he’s a leading chance.
13 Cuban Sizzle (Bet Now: $19.00) is an improver at odds. She comes through the Jeweliana race from a fortnight ago where she was back in the run and never really a winning threat, but finished her race off pretty well late in the piece behind the filly. Like her up to 1500m and can sit closer in the run if need be, so she’s a knockout chance for sure if that eventuates.
Race 3. (14:27) MAGIC MILLIONS QTIS Hcp (0 - 90) 1200m
4 Lim’s Lightning (Bet Now: $17.00) is a big watch here. The former Singapore galloper had his first run for Matty Dunn in the Bribie and in the form guide, it doesn’t exactly read great, but the tempo was against him, the trip was short of his best, but loved the way he found the line the final few strides. He’ll eat up 1200m on the bigger track and at the odds, he’ll do me each way.
10 The Odyssey (Bet Now: $4.40) draws wide, but he has the early toe to get over, lead and prove hard to run down. That’s what he did in the Gold Edition two weeks ago and ran well without winning when third to Alligator Blood. Had heat stress post race, so watch the weather if you like him because he doesn’t want it too warm.
I think 12 Desert Digby (Bet Now: $18.00) is a big improver here. Was really keen on him running well first up over 1000m here two weeks ago but unfortunately was caught wide for the trip and that early burn just told late behind Vienna Power. Fitter, up to 1200m, with serious weight relief, he’s one of the hardest to beat I think.
Race 4. (15:07) MAGIC MILLIONS SHOOT OUT 2200m
I think there’s a really good each way gamble here in the shape of 8 Outraged (Bet Now: $51.00). He did some good things to me at the big odds a few runs ago at the Gold Coast when stepping up in trip and I think it’s a similar set up here. On paper, didn’t do much behind The Candy Man, but he was chasing due to the good speed. Picked up and was really good late, clocking the best late splits of the race. He’ll eat up 2200m and I think he’ll only run well.
1 The Candy Man (Bet Now: $2.10 PROMO ODDS) is the class runner of the field and since coming back from Sydney, he’s got back to his best form. He loved the fast tempo over 1800m here two weeks ago and finished over the top for an impressive win. Is a winner at this track/distance and despite the rise to 60.5kg, he’s one of the leading chances.
2 Winning Ways (Bet Now: $7.00) is getting out to a more ideal trip and the Oaks winner can be a big improver here. Comes through the race won by The Candy Man from two weeks ago and was never a winning factor but the market flucs late suggested she may need the run. 2000m+ is her go in life so have to give her another chance.
Race 5. (15:47) VO ROGUE PLATE 1400m
Pretty straight forward here with 1 Alligator Blood (Bet Now: $1.45), one of the best three year olds in Australia as we saw during the Spring. Resumed in the Gold Edition two weeks ago and while he was under pressure early on in the straight, the last 75m was the best part of his race, clicking into gear and winning impressively. Fitter, up to 1400m, he’s the winner barring bad luck.
Really good test for 2 Diamond Thunder (Bet Now: $4.50) to see where stands in the Magic Millions rankings. He comes through the 3&4YO Magic Millions at Wyong where he was tardy to begin with but despite that, he finished hard late to score a big win, and it showed that he doesn’t have to sit on speed. But in this instance, I think his best chance of winning will be if he’s in front of the fav.
9 Jeweliana (Bet Now: $18.00) isn’t quite the finished product yet, but she’s certainly got a decent engine under the hood. Was accepted for the Gold Edition but dodged Alligator Blood and contested a Class 3 where she was ridden upside down by Froggy but was still far too good for her rivals. Ridden cold and flashing late is her ideal recipe. Good enough to beat the fav? I doubt it, but one for exotics.
Race 6. (16:27) B.J. MCLACHLAN STAKES 1200m
5 King’s Legacy (Bet Now: $8.00) looks a really nice colt for Team Snowden but does need to win/run top two to be in the Magic Millions mix. Debuted in a strong midweek 2YO event at Rosehill in what I think will be a hot form race. Got badly held up when building the revs and should have finished much closer when third to Aim. 1200m at Eagle Farm with the run under the belt, he’ll take some beating.
This race will confirm one way or the other re 8 Every Rose (Bet Now: $3.30) and her Magic Millions credentials. On face value, you’d have to mark her down as somewhat disappointing in the Wyong Magic Millions given she was a short priced elect and had her chance. But in saying that, the winner was pretty sharp and Every Rose was a notable drifter late, so perhaps she needed the run. 1200m on the bigger track should be ideal. Can she see out six furlongs strongly enough?
1 Way Beyond (Bet Now: $23.00) is a Stuart Kendrick trained colt that is still a maiden but really should have won at least a race by now. Bumped into Dusty Tycoon two back at the Sunny Coast before going to Doomben where he should have won but just had no luck at all when second to Red Stiletto. On the bigger track, off a good speed, he’s likeable.
Race 7. (17:07) BERNBOROUGH HANDICAP 1600m
More than happy to butter up with 5 Le Juge (Bet Now: $10.00). Chris Waller had him penned as an Epsom horse after what he did during the Brisbane Winter, but he didn’t measure up. He went back to Queensland, worked home strongly at the Sunny Coast, then raced at Doomben last time out and just had no luck at all in the straight. Was building nicely, but no gaps eventuated in the straight. Like him at Eagle Farm and this looks considerably weaker than the races he contested during the Spring.
Up to 1600m at Eagle Farm, 10 Reckless Choice (Bet Now: $11.00) is a big improver here. Trialled up enormous prior to resuming in the Lough Neah two weeks ago over 1300m here in what was a real on pace dominated race, so just forget Reckless Choice went around. Saves his best for the mile, especially at this track. and has upside compared to most.
Was hard to miss the first up run of 7 Silvera (Bet Now: $6.50) in the Recognition from several weeks ago. Jim Byrne gave him a suck run nearer the inside and looked to be going well, which was indeed the case when getting clear and savaging the line late to run fourth, beaten a length. He’ll eat up the 1600m here and has an outstanding second up record.
Race 8. (17:47) THE BUFFERING 1400m
1400m off a fast speed on the big track looks such a perfect set up for 4 Miss Fabulass (Bet Now: $6.50) to bounce back. This mare was well fancied two weeks ago in the Lough Neagh but bombed the start by several lengths and that sealed her fate, along with a slow tempo. Looks to be good speed here. Just hope she jumps cleanly and unleashes her brilliant finale from two starts ago.
3 Gaulois (Bet Now: $5.50) is a son of Street Cry for James Cummings that resumes, having not raced since late August since taking out the Rowley Mile in impressive style at Hawkesbury. Tipped out and has been specifically targeted towards this Carnival, and his two trials leading in have been pretty good to the eye, so keen to see how he goes.
10 Tokoriki Lad (Bet Now: $21.00) likely has eyes towards the QTIS race on Magic Millions Day, the race he went within a lip of winning last year. Resumed over 1200m here a fortnight back in what was a race controlled by those on speed and he just couldn’t get involved. Better for that outing and the tempo should be more genuine this time around.
Race 9. (18:30) NUDGEE STAKES 1200m
This looks a lovely race for 3 Multaja (Bet Now: $3.40). Had five weeks off prior to racing in the Razor Sharp a fortnight back where J Mac rode to beat Signore Fox and tried his best, but that horse got clear and finished best, but Multaja didn’t turn it up. She’ll come on from that I’m sure and back to Mares grade, she’s very likeable here.
If this was a genuinely rain affected track, I’d declare 13 Misteed (Bet Now: $7.50) the bet of the month because I think she’s flying but just can’t find a wet track. Two runs back have been excellent, the latest at Randwick when a narrow second to a good mare in Seasons. Does no work from the inside gate, hard fit now…the knock is the firm track, especially the last race at Eagle Farm.
6 River Racer (Bet Now: $10.00) could be a sneaky blowout chance for the Les Ross team. Think this mare is going well. Comes through the Lough Neagh from two weeks ago and didn’t mind the way she finished her race off behind Deep Image in a race dominated on speed. Looks to be a stack of pace here, and from the gate, she gets the soft run and will ambush late.
