28/11/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Warrnambool, Jericho Cup day

Nine races will be run and won at Warrnambool on Sunday for Jericho Cup Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Fitter and up to 1400m, I want to give 3 Lip Sip Suk (Bet Now: $4.60) the nod. Debuted over 1200m at Kyneton and not sure the track was to his liking, but I didn’t mind his finale and the effort was good behind Gulf Of Aden. Bigger track, extra ground, jockey upgrade, he finds a thin, in the right camp…yeah I’ll be with him.

7 Royal Fox (Bet Now: $1.95) has Blinkers first time and home track advantage so he commands respect. Beetroot Williams trains this gelding, who resumed over 1100m here and was good late from off the speed when second to Wanaroo. Like the rise in trip and Blinkers first time tells me there is intent.

1 Ever So Regal (Bet Now: $26.00) is an interesting runner. Archie Alexander trained son of Hampton Court that is on debut. His jumpouts have been quite plain but the stable/jock combo do have to be respected and I’d watch the market and see what it does with him here.

12 Bad Influence (Bet Now: $3.50) for me. Maher/Eustace trained mare that hasn’t raced since December last year when placing at Sandown behind Typhoon Harmony, who has since gone on to be a good horse. Had two jumpouts in the Winter then spelled. Has come back, with three trials this prep to get ready, so IMO, she’s right to rock and roll.

14 Kadena (Bet Now: $3.00) has done little wrong in two career outings for Lindsey Smith. Narrow second on debut at Dunkeld before racing at Hamilton on Monday where she ran second to Fight On Shades. Maps super from the draw and hard fit, she does command respect.

4 Grand York (Bet Now: $19.00) is a son of Epaulette for Symon Wilde that is on debut. This gelding has had three jumpouts to get ready and has been okay without jumping up and down. But, he has home track advantage and a good gate, and on a big race day for the track, I’d watch the market.

Very tricky race. I’ll side with 1 Anirishman (Bet Now: $3.00). Patrick Ryan Jr trains this gelding, who ran over 1400m here last time and tried hard from near the speed, just couldn’t quite get there when second to La Spezia, who won last Friday night at the Valley, so the form does read well. 1700m a query, but gate one helps.

7 Sir Peter (Bet Now: $11.00) back to 1700m I find interesting. This guy resumed over 2000m at Ballarat where he attempted to lead throughout and gave a solid kick, but first up, his condition just gave way late. I don’t mind the drop back in trip and with a soft lead, he’ll take beating.

3 Volkswagon Frank (Bet Now: $9.50) could be a sleeper here at odds. Ran over the mile last Wednesday at Sandown and wasn’t too bad in defeat despite being well held by Denero. In saying that, he was only four lengths away. That form does read well for a thin 58 so keen to see how he goes with Allen sticking.

4 Havisham (Bet Now: $3.50) looks one of the better bets on the card. Price/Kent trained gelding that debuted over the mile at Ararat. He did plenty wrong on speed, but as the race went on, he got better and drew clear to win impressively. The rise to 2000m I like, he’s got enormous upside and on speed, he’ll take a power of beating.

Fitter and up to 2000m are two big ticks for 11 Poppy Joan (Bet Now: $4.20). Resumed over the mile at Hamilton where she got a fair way back in the run and was never really a winning threat, but didn’t mind her finale when third. If she can sit closer in the run from the draw, she’ll be hard to hold out.

10 Donatrice (Bet Now: $8.50) is getting towards last chance territory. Archie Alexander trained mare that was a short priced elect on Donald Cup Day and was very one paced in the straight after seemingly getting every chance. She’s hard to trust, but her best is good enough to run well.

8 Ventura Highway (Bet Now: $4.20) is in with a shout. He comes here off the back of a 3800m run at Ararat where he had a suck run behind the speed and battled on pretty well in defeat when fourth to Heberite, who I think will win the big one, so the form reads well. Problem is, like most here, greeting the judge first is a tough ask.

2 Savvy Acquisition (Bet Now: $4.20) probably has the best overall form in recent times, but last start was beaten six lengths in a 58 at Bendigo, which tells you a bit about this race. This is a real dartboard race with anything winning and not surprising I think, but he does bring the best exposed form overall.

3 Hanaki Warrior (Bet Now: $8.50) can fill a first four spot. He is an honest stayer for Bryce Stanaway that doesn’t win, but is a one batter who won’t mind a slog here and his run behind Tigertiger wasn’t too bad. He’ll be one of the first off the bit but he’ll keep chipping away.

9 Wanaroo (Bet Now: $3.60) on top. Symon Wilde trained filly that was a dominant all the way winner over 1100m in a maiden here where she gave them a spanking in good time. This looks to be a 70 with some depth to it, but home track advantage and soft draw, she’ll take running down.

4 My Yankee Girl (Bet Now: $4.40) has done little wrong in her three career outings. Debut win at Cranbourne was strong. Then a narrow second at Ballarat before getting the job done in good style at Bendigo. She doesn’t win by a space, but she just gets the job done and is reliable. Hard to beat.

1 La Marita (Bet Now: $9.50) is a mare who does tend to race best when she has fresh legs. Hasn’t raced since September 26 where she just battled away in a good race I felt. Freshened up and a bit of juice in the track, she does bring class and her best is certainly good enough.

Blinkers first time I find interesting with 5 Tydeus (Bet Now: $8.50) for Lindsey Smith. Resumed over 1100m here when scooting along on speed and tried hard, but just felt the pinch late when fourth. Big jockey upgrade and Blinkers first time, back to 1000m, it looks a good set up.

2 Not Enough Effort (Bet Now: $4.20) can bounce back here big time. Market wanted to be with him fresh at the Valley and to the eye, was plain, but was found to be lame post race, so there were excuses. He is a city class horse when right so his best is more than good enough here.

11 Glenferrie Girl (Bet Now: $10.00) has home track advantage and is a second up winner. Resumed at Terang and was good from off the speed when a narrow second to Isolating. Rarely runs a bad race at the Bool and down in the weights, I think she is in with a shout here.

I’m really surprised 3 Heberite (Bet Now: $4.20) isn’t favourite. Has won his past two in dominant fashion, two back over 3100m here before making a mess of them over 3800m at Ararat. The 4600m should be no issue for him and on speed, in the right camp, he’ll only run well.

1 Wil John (Bet Now: $2.10) is comfortably the best horse in the race, but he’s short enough for a horse who was really plain last time. I was keen on him on Cup Day at Flemington over 2800m and though held up, he was entitled to finish his race off much better. Been set for the race and can’t ignore the stable.

The best form is the True Marvel race from a couple of weeks back at the Valley. 11 Master Poet (Bet Now: $51.00) ran second as a despised outsider but his effort was excellent I thought in running second. Could I back him to win here? No, but I think he’s an absolute must for exotics.

Complete throw at the stumps in the get out via 3 Vardani (Bet Now: $46.00). He hasn’t set the world on fire since arriving from France, but a couple of runs haven’t been too bad and the Cross Over Nose Band is on first time and that is the sort of gear change that can really spark a horse into action.

12 Unanimous (Bet Now: $6.00) has a plain racing pattern but he has the talent under the hood. Ran over 1200m on Donald Cup Day and just got a bit too far back in the run but didn’t quite get a chance to build up proper momentum when fourth. Jockey upgrade and drawn wide, gets clear air and a great chance to launch.

2 Paddy Mac (Bet Now: $13.00) is a Symon Wilde trained gelding that resumes. Hasn’t raced since Jan 15 when on speed over 2040m at the Valley and just tiring late when a close up fourth. Has a good fresh record and thought a recent jumpout was more than encouraging so watch the market.

BEST BET: Race Four Number 4 Havisham

NEXT BEST: Race Eight Number 3 Heberite

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 3 Vardani
