28/10/2022 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Moonee Valley

A strong nine race card has been set down for Moonee Valley on Friday night. The weather is fine, the track is heavy (8) and the rail is out four metres for the entire circuit.

Tricky maiden to kick off the program. Leaning towards the Maher/Eustace pair and siding with 10 Jennilala (Bet Now: $1.90). Shalaa filly that is on debut and she’s been pretty good in a few jumpouts to get ready for start one. Maps to get a good run from the gate and in a tricky race, I’ll take a chance with the first starter.

2 Rock Dee Jay (Bet Now: $4.80) is suited back to 1200m. This guy just looked in need of the run fresh at Bendigo before going to 1300m at Morphettville Parks where he seemingly got a good run in transit and had his chance when fourth to a handy one, Pretty Reliable. Hard fit now and back to 1200m, he’s a knockout hope.

7 Field Of Mars (Bet Now: $9.50) is third pick, but a distant third pick. He was a notable drifter in betting when debuting at Murtoa and the market got it spot on as he failed to fire a shot in a plain effort. Had jumped out really well prior to that and on breeding, wet ground should be okay.

8 Little Mermaid (Bet Now: $3.30) on a top in a really thin race now after scratchings. Daughter of Mossman that resumes, having not raced since September last year at Mornington when very good from the back behind Zion. She likes wet ground and with a couple of solid 1000m+ trials under the belt, the grounding is there for a forward showing fresh.

6 She’s Booming (Bet Now: $3.70) looks ready to rock and roll to my eye. Team Hawkes trained mare that resumes, having not raced since March 31 at Pakenham when near the speed and battled on pretty well in defeat behind Morning Melody. Runs well on the fresh side and her two jumpouts have been encouraging.

10 Shez Steamin’ (Bet Now: $15.00) is a sneaky chance after scratchings. She found a pretty thin 58 first up at Wangaratta but despite that, she was impressive the way she put them away after some encouraging trial work. Heavy track is a query, but hard to ignore the sharp return.

I think you have to give 3 Stadium Of Light (Bet Now: $3.40) another chance. He is on the quick back up after racing last Saturday at Morphettville where to the eye, he was very poor, but the fact he backs up straight away and tongue tie goes on suggests that was the reason for the flop. Off the win prior, he’s clearly the one to beat against these.

7 Powerful Eagle (Bet Now: $3.30) commands respect. Peter Moody trained gelding that has been pretty solid in two runs back from a spell. Resumed with a solid maiden win on the Pakenham Synthetic before going to Thousand Guineas Day at Caulfield and battled on well when a close up fourth to Zoe’s Promise, who won the Fillies Classic last Saturday, so the form reads very well and back to 1500m is a big tick.

Fitter and up in trip are two big ticks for 8 Riverina Cyclone (Bet Now: $9.00). She resumed over 1400m on the Parks track at Morphettville where she got back in the run and made up solid ground without threatening behind East Indiaman, who is one of the more in form horses in SA at the moment. Think it reads well enough for a race like this.

Have to have a peanut each way on 10 Verifier (Bet Now: $15.00). He was good late behind Foxy Cleopatra here fresh before going to the Ballarat Synthetic when wide no cover on speed and the hard run just told late, tiring to finish fourth. Gets a suck run from the inside gate and his best is good enough to take this out.

6 Long Tycoon (Bet Now: $3.70) looks a key threat. GaiBott trained gelding that comes to Victoria after a couple of runs in NSW to start the prep, the latest being at Kembla when a close up third to Gigantic. To me he looks a thinker, so Blinkers on I love…I don’t love D Oliver aboard, but it’s a thin race.

4 He’s A Legend (Bet Now: $9.00) looks a horse with talent. Market specked him at odds when debuting over 1200m at Cranbourne. He had the suck run in behind and presented at the right time but couldn’t quite get past Veloce Carro, who was solid in defeat at Bendigo on Wednesday. Straight to the mile, but stable is astute.

I’m with 7 La Spezia (Bet Now: $4.60). This mare for Jamie Edwards resumed at Caulfield on Thousand Guineas Day and was very good from the back when close up behind Real Sensation. Good second up record, proven at The Valley and back miles in depth, I like her alot here.

9 Ballynora (Bet Now: $4.80) has returned well. Let down with purpose from off the speed to win fresh at Geelong before going to the Pakenham Synthetic where she looked the winner when presented but was nabbed late by Race Card. Hard fit now, in form, she appeals.

8 Starring Role (Bet Now: $5.00) can easily take this out. She has been kept on ice since Underwood Stakes Day at Sandown when wide no cover for the trip and was far from disgraced in defeat behind Picarones in a hot form race. Tick over trial was sharp, gets in well after the claim, hard to beat.

There are a stack of speed demons engaged so want to be on something sitting back and launch late, which will be 11 Night Of Delight (Bet Now: $4.60), who is flying since joining Tom Dabernig. Four weeks between runs since an electric win at this track/distance, where she sat off the fast speed and finished over the top for a dynamic win. More depth here, but she’s a dynamic short course animal and has a sharp turn of foot.

5 Elite Icon (Bet Now: $2.25) is a sharp short course sprinter for Team McEvoy that resumes. He hasn’t raced since March 4 when a dominant winner over 1200m here when leading throughout and was much too good for his rivals. Couple of jumpouts to get ready for his return, and with his speed, the 955m set up looks ideal.

8 Boss Lady Rocks (Bet Now: $7.00) is a speed demon that resumes. She had a busy Summer/Autumn prep, where she showed herself to be quite effective in short course races and did place over 1000m here. Just one soft trial under the belt for her return but with early toe, she’s suited in a race like this.

Third up from a break and up in trip, I want to give 11 Thought Provoking (Bet Now: $3.50) another chance. Just died on the run fresh at Flemington behind Cardinal Gem. She then went to Cranbourne where she got back against the pattern and was solid late without threatening. Hard fit now and up to a more suitable trip, she can bounce back into the winners list.

7 Wisaka (Bet Now: $2.50) is knocking on the door to win one for Mike Moroney. He ran second in the race mentioned above at Cranbourne where he was tucked in behind the speed and loomed large to win but couldn’t quite get there when second to Mister Me. Gets a suck run again and rising to 2040m should be fine.

4 Cerberus (Bet Now: $9.50) can be a big improver back onto the firmer deck. He was strong two back at Sandown behind Aesop before going to Caulfield where he found a bog track and just couldn’t pick his feet up behind White Marlin. Back on a firmer track, he can bounce back.

Playing a straight bat with 3 Minola (Bet Now: $3.30). She has been up forever it seems like but continues to race at a pretty solid level. She ran over this trip on Moe Cup Day and looked all over a winner when she kicked for home, only to be nabbed on the peg by Parisian Dancer. She should get a lovely run transit, hard fit, in form…she’ll do me.

1 Idon’tgetit (Bet Now: $3.50) is on the up and has that sense of timing. On the quick back up after racing at Geelong last Wednesday where he was good late from off the speed behind Cuban State. Yet to prove himself at this sort of trip, but he’s racing like 2040m will be ideal.

10 Romania (Bet Now: $14.00) is dangerous if this track is up/in. Toughed it out best to win two back at Moe before going to Sale where he led and copped heat from a fair way out, tiring late behind Adonis Kick. That was on Sunday so quick back up on a wet track is usually gold.

11 Rose Tycoon (Bet Now: $4.00) is a stablemate of Redzoust that has been pretty consistent right throughout her career. Latest run came four weeks ago over 1000m here when back near last in the run and made up good headway late when third to Mouse Almighty. If she’s within range on the turn, she’ll be dangerous.

8 Deprivation (Bet Now: $3.30) is a Price/Kent trained gelding that resumes. He hasn’t raced since May 28 at Caulfield when on speed and tiring late when down the track behind Hopon Harry in a solid 3YO race. Jumpout work has been encouraging and stable is having good success when booking P Moloney.

3 Lowanna Magic (Bet Now: $9.50) is a Paul Preusker trained gelding that resumes. He’s getting on in years and his best is probably behind him, but he finds a really thin race here as a kick off point and with the claim for Logan McNeil, he gets in very well at the weights. Market will tell you if he’s ready.
