Race 1. (15:28) Magic Millions Plate 1200m
I’m pretty keen here on 2 Odinaka (Bet Now: $SP.00), who is on debut for Steve Wolfe. I thought he was very sharp when trialling last week at Belmont, where he was near the speed throughout and what impressed me most was when Faithfull asked for an effort, the response was instant and the change up speed was very good. If he brings that to raceday, I think he wins.
4 Sonoftheboss (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Street Boss on debut for Jim Taylor. He was pushed right out to win a Belmont trial, just getting there, but he responded when asked and that is a good sign for an unraced juvenile rather than under a hold and looking flash. Should land on speed and running a bold race. Market will tell you if he’s got any decent ability.
6 Stromy’s Salute (Bet Now: $SP.00) has the raceday experience, which should hold her in good stead. Debuted two weeks back over this track/distance where she attempted to lead throughout and gave a solid kick but couldn’t quite see it through, tiring late to finish fourth to Shaddow Fear. Not sure she is good enough to win but can pinch a first four spot.
Race 2. (16:08) Amelia Park Plate 1100m
Good race this. Pretty keen on 2 My Bella Mae (Bet Now: $SP.00), a quality filly that resumes. She hasn’t raced since the Winterbottom where she was far from disgraced when taking on the big boys and girls when midfield behind Paulele, beaten just under four lengths. No trial/jumpout for her leading in but given the Magic Millions is a couple of weeks away, you’d assume she’s near the mark.
1 Street Parade (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to be given another chance. He is a class three year old that comes here off a mini break, his latest run coming on December 17 here over 1200m when four wide for the trip and couldn’t finish it off behind Goddess Of Giving. Another with eyes towards the Magic Millions but he has brilliance, should land on speed and prove hard to beat.
3 Cut The Talk (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the best of the other pair. 2/2 this time in, spanking them down the straight at Pinjarra fresh before going to 1000m at Belmont where he knuckled down strongly to win narrowly but the effort had plenty of merit. The hard fit/in form sprinter, he lands on speed and gives cheek I am sure, but just lacks the class of the first two.
Race 3. (16:48) Tabtouch Handicap (0MWLY) 1600m
2 Canny Jack (Bet Now: $SP.00) hasn’t fired a shot at Ascot previously but the last start was an absolute beauty and gets Pike to steer so with that in mind, I’ll be in his corner here. He ran last Thursday at Pinjarra where he settled near last in the run and charged to the line late in a very good effort when third to Wise Counsel. Can settle much closer in the run, gets Pike aboard…he’ll do me.
4 Chad’s Me Dad (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to bring the provincial form to town but this is a race lacking serious depth. Did a really good job in defeat from the back two starts ago at Pinjarra before going to Albany where she lobbed into a beaut spot under CJP and the ride won the race no doubt. Has run well at Belmont before so she can measure up in town and gets a good map once again.
6 Saturn Black (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the quick back up after racing last Wednesday at Belmont where I thought she was given little hope with the ride. Thought it was very negative from Carbery and just set the mare too big of a task and really, she did a great job to get as close as she did. Like her up to the mile and with a more positive steer, she can take this out.
Race 4. (17:28) Crown Perth Handicap (66+) 2200m
I’ll bank on Pike first time bringing out the best in 2 Constant Dreaming (Bet Now: $SP.00). I’m forgiving of her run two weeks ago at this track/distance. She did a power of work to land on speed and that early burn told on her late, finishing down the track behind Coolth, who would be odds on against this line up. First time that Pike will ride her, she’s down in the weights, maps to get a sweet trip, I think she can bounce back.
1 Tri For Us (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a stablemate of Constant Dreaming that should be suited up in trip. Last couple of runs have come over the mile here and for mine, she has just looked a mare that wants more ground, which is what she gets here and overall, it’s a thin race. Gets in well after the claim for Taj Dyson and she does have a touch of class compared to most of these.
5 Lady Duckworth (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a definite winning chance. She ran last Saturday wheres she got a mile out of her ground, back near last in the run, and made up solid headway late in the piece behind Soviet Spy. She’s yet to run a drum in five runs at the track/distance but she is racing well and this race is on the thin side, so don’t dismiss her against these.
Race 5. (18:04) Happy 90th Frank Cusmano Handicap (66+) 1000m
2 Metallon (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a while between runs but I think he has a bit of class/quality about him and hoping that is enough to get him home. He did an excellent job in the Autumn of last year, winning three on the bounce before a fourth to Sneaky Chance, who was flying at the time. Trialled up super behind Sniparoochy on Monday and he is a 1000m horse. 1000m horse in a 1000m race is a good recipe.
3 He’s Gold (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since winning at this track/distance where Taj Dyson rode a peach on speed race, sitting outside the speed, controlling the tempo and that was the difference between winning and losing, just fending off The Lady Is A Vamp. More depth here, but has the right racing pattern to give himself every chance.
7 Mantelli (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Team Gangemi trained gelding that resumes. He hasn’t raced since September 8 at Northam on wet ground when looking at the end of his prep and failing to fire behind Famous Jurney. Not a noted fresh horse but has trialled up well leading in and is a horse who can fire when on the fresh side, so watch the market.
Race 6. (18:40) Peter Keig Memorial Handicap (1MW) 1500m
1 Birdieagle (Bet Now: $SP.00) to bounce back. He ran last Saturday in a much stronger race than this and I thought was far from disgraced in defeat behind Weaponson after getting a fair way back in the run. Drops miles in grade/depth and should be able to settle much closer in the run from the good gate. Think he is clearly the one to beat against this lot.
3 Memorable Miss (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks suited up to 1600m. Just looked in need of the run fresh over 1200m before stepping up to 1300m where the inside gate was used to advantage and once CJP got clear air with her, away she went and she was dominant. Getting towards peak fitness now and up to the 1500m, she appeals as a key winning chance.
7 Arcadia Grace (Bet Now: $SP.00) is getting towards D-Day for her. Thought she did more than enough fresh behind a progressive type, Brave Venture, before racing over the mile here two weeks ago and seemed to have her chance, being quite plain in the straight behind Speedy Miss. She gets in very well after the claim and if she runs up to her best, she can take this out.
Race 7. (19:20) Vale Tim Stubberfield Handicap (1MW) ) 1200m
1 Cash Away (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks ready to win. Three weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance where he got a fair way back in the run but loved the way he found the line late in the piece, charging to the line when a close up fourth to My Dilemma. Pike is back aboard and the way he found the line last time, 1200m is fine. If he’s within range on the turn, I think he’ll be winning.
8 Miss Field (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been excellent this time in for Dan Morton. Dominant first up win at Belmont before proving that was no fluke at Pinjarra over 1200m, getting back and finding the line with real purpose when second to Magnalee, clocking some of the better late splits of the meeting. Hard fit now and despite a tricky gate to overcome, she appeals as a key chance.
2 The Fugazi (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Team Gangemi trained gelding that resumes. He had a two run Winter prep at Belmont and didn’t fire a shot each time, spelling soon after. Thought he didn’t move too bad in a recent trial, he can sprint well fresh and interesting that Jarrod Noske is back and he is riding for a stable he’s had great success with, so I’d watch the market.
Race 8. (20:00) Scenic Blast Stakes 1200m
It’s hard to get away from 1 How’s The Serenity (Bet Now: $SP.00), who has come back for Simon Miller in super order. 2/2 this time in, winning the Summer Scorcher first up before a dominant all the way win in the Miss Andretti two weeks ago where she copped heat on speed but booted clear and was too good. Don’t think she’ll find the front but she has shown previously that she can still win even if not leading.
Very interesting runner is 4 Angelic Miss (Bet Now: $SP.00), who resumes for Simon Miller. She only had the one run during the Carnival, which saw her finish down the track in the Jungle Mist and was tipped out soon after. Can’t find a jumpout/trial for her but at her best, she’s certainly good enough to take this out so watch the market and it will tell you if she’s ready.
5 Carocapo (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a first four chance. He ran in the Miss Andretti two weeks back here where he was able to use the inside gate, settling just off the speed and was good in defeat behind How’s The Serenity. Think he will love getting to 1200m and if he was able to find the front, I think he’d run a very cheeky race at a likely decent price.
Race 9. (20:40) Western Racepix Handicap (72+) 1800m
Surely…surely the time is now for 6 Casino Seventeen (Bet Now: $SP.00). Ran over the mile here two weeks ago and really, it was just the bob of the head that was the difference between winning and losing, beaten a lip by Corn Cob. Has run well at 1800m previously and with Pike on, depth not as strong, sweet run in transit…if he can’t put this field away, then it is well and truly a life ban.
Fitter and up to 1800m are two big ticks for 2 Reliable Star (Bet Now: $SP.00). This mare resumed in the Corn Cob race from a fortnight back mentioned above. She is a 2000m+ so while 1600m first up wasn’t a total waste of a run, they were still too sharp for her. I don’t think she can turn the tables on Casino Seventeen but I am expecting big improvement from her.
5 Bold Success (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for Jim Taylor since racing at this track/distance where he was near the speed throughout but did early work to get there. Just couldn’t quite sustain it and felt the pinch late behind Sentimental Hero. Has won up to 2100m so 1800m is ideal, and if he gets a cheap run on speed, I think he can run a much improved race.
