Night racing returns to the Sunshine Coast on Friday for an . The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (18:22) Pitchers Hospitality Mdn Hcp 1000m
This is a dartboard job. No standouts at the trials, no race day form…just total guessing. Soft gate, okay trial, on top is 3 Hostwin Toronado (Bet Now: $2.90), who trialled well enough earlier in the month at Eagle Farm when second. Should get a nice run from the draw and did show early speed in the trial. Kelly Schweida has produced a couple of handy juveniles already this season.
8 Clairvue Lady (Bet Now: $4.80) is a well bred filly on debut for the Stuart Kendrick stable. She’s out of the former top juvenile Missy Longstocking, who has done a good job as a broodmare. Thought this girl trialled well here last week when second to an impressive winner. Home track advantage, has to be respected.
2 Hear Hear (Bet Now: $46.00) is a son of Domesday on debut. He trialled in the same heat as Clairvue Lady here last week. She ran second and comfortably held Hear Hear, but he looked to go about his business well enough. Not sure he can turn the tables from the trial, but perhaps a first four contender with early speed from the gate.
Race 2. (18:52) Creative Stone Mdn Plate 1000m
Not a great deal of confidence here in a tricky maiden but I’ll lean the way of 10 Galaxy Gem (Bet Now: $5.00). Market loved her when she debuted here five weeks ago but as soon as the gates opened, she reared and that sealed her fate. Ordered to trial and she went very well here last week. If she jumps clean, think she’s the one they have to beat.
9 One More Field (Bet Now: $4.80) is a leading chance here. O’Dea/Hyland trained youngster who didn’t set the world on fire in his debut but was much better next time out when a solid third. Gets the Blinkers on first time and has the hard race experience and fitness over the two horses mentioned above. Knockout hope for sure.
6 Asbury Park (Bet Now: $34.00) can be an improver at odds. Resumes for Desleigh Forster after debuting at Doomben back in April when down the track behind Hamilton Hill in a maiden where the subsequent form has been quite good. Resumes without a public trial, so market will be the guide, but stable can get them ready to fire fresh.
Race 3. (19:23) Suncoast Cabs Mdn Hcp 1200m
9 She’s An Eagle (Bet Now: $2.05) deserves another chance. Tony Gollan trained filly that resumed at Ipswich and was backed with confidence to win. Just not sure Ipswich suited her so want to be forgiving of that run. Think she will be better on a bigger track like this and Ryan Maloney takes over, so she has a bit in her corner.
2 Criminal Defence (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Team Hulbert trained three year old resuming. Ran twice during his 2YO season, with the second run seeing him place at Doomben in a Saturday race behind the well performed Mishani Fraudster. Wasn’t asked to do much in a recent trial and draws wide, but has the race day form to be very competitive here.
11 Unleisha (Bet Now: $14.00) is a Garnett Taylor trained filly on debut. She trialled earlier in the year before being spelled. Just one trial this time in to get ready, back in late October behind the above average Way Beyond, who has won a couple of races since. Has gate one and Blinkers for start one, plus Ryan Wiggins steers.
Race 4. (19:53) Digital Vision Direct Mdn Hcp 1200m
Good depth this race. The quality clearly lies with 4 Boomnova (Bet Now: $2.35), resuming for Chris Muncie. Has only had the one career outing, which came in the Aquis Jewel at the Gold Coast during the Autumn when third to Kisukano and Rothfire, which is A1 form in Queensland. Any hint of that form produced here and he wins.
11 Microwave Jenny (Bet Now: $6.50) looks a nice filly for Tony Gollan. Thought there was merit in her debut effort over 1100m at the Gold Coast. Caught wide no cover for the trip and battled away well after that tough run. Gets a perfect trip from the inside gate and has race fitness on her side compared to Boomnova.
The unknown here is 14 Sip It Slow (Bet Now: $6.50), resuming for the Stuart Kendrick stable. Her form from last prep does read quite well for a race like this, including efforts behind Dusty Tycoon and Away Game. Resumes without a trial, so market will be your guide as to whether or not she’s ready fitness wise.
Race 5. (20:23) H & H Air Conditioning (bm68) 1400m
Potentially a sticky map for 2 Degas (Bet Now: $2.80) but I’d love to see Huxtable be positive from the outset and if he can find the front on this four year old, think he’s clearly the horse to beat. Was there to be run down last time out at Grafton but he showed good ticker late to fend them off and win, in fast time as well. Little query at 1400m at this level. Just hope he finds the front and gets control.
8 Concealed Dynamite (Bet Now: $5.50) is the map horse. Gets the lightweight after the claim and should be able to hold a forward spot from the inside gate. Lovely ride saw him win last time out at this track/distance, but that was five weeks ago, so interesting the break between runs, but last start did confirm that he’s indeed a 1400m horse.
7 Miss Dynamic (Bet Now: $13.00) is the potential other speed influence. She’s done her recent racing at Toowoomba over shorter trips and has run well without winning. She is a horse who I do have genuine queries about running a strong 1400m, but think if she can land the box seat, potentially stalking Degas, that will be her best chance of winning.
Race 6. (20:53) Hampers To Go Plate (c2) 1000m
Fascinating runner is 4 Platinum Euros (Bet Now: $2.50), unbeaten in two career outings. Natalie McCall trains this gelding, who hasn’t raced since Feb 23 when winning here and making it 2/2 to start his career. Trialled up very well here last Tuesday and has a good gate to use, plus in the fair dinkum stakes, he is more genuine than Garibaldi, so really surprised by the market gap.
7 Garibaldi…(Bet Now: $1.75) I couldn’t back him to win with stolen money. It just looked the perfect race for him a fortnight ago when he resumed here and on the turn, it looked race over…but he turned it up I reckon and allowed Ruuca to burst through and win. He’s a nice horse, hard to beat…just couldn’t back him to win.
8 Highland Son (Bet Now: $6.00) is a son of Bel Esprit that resumes for Stuart Kendrick. This bloke hasn’t raced since September 19 when down the track at the Gold Coast behind a very promising animal in Shooting For Gold. He is 2/2 when produced fresh and thought the recent Sunny Coast trial was more than encouraging.
Race 7. (21:23) Tab Create Your Calendar-bm75 1200m
The market is going to be the guide here. Any form of push for 8 Jetski (Bet Now: $3.00) and I want to follow the bandwagon. Former Godolphin galloper that now finds himself in Queensland with the Sears camp and the set up on paper is there for a first up kill. No public trials/jumpouts, inside gate, in form rider steering, saves his best for fresh/dry ground…perfect race for him.
6 Dolly Spartan (Bet Now: $3.20) is a beauty for David Vandyke. Handy mare who has built a strong record and is more often than not around the mark. Led throughout to win at this track/distance a month back in a race which had good depth to it. Tick over trial was good and tends to save her best for her home track, which is here.
7 Couldn’t Refuse (Bet Now: $8.50) is a Desleigh Forster trained four year old that resumes. This gelding hasn’t raced since June 13 when down the track over the mile at Eagle Farm behind the Stakes performed Barefoot. Resumes without a public trial, but his first up form is good and two of his three career wins have come here.
Race 8. (22:00) Wimmers Premium Soft Drinks-c1 1800m
Bit surprised there is double figures on offer for 1 Thatfridayfeeling (Bet Now: $6.50). He ran over 1800m at the Gold Coast two weeks ago and looked to be in the right spot just off the speed. Just thought young Lloyd waited a bit too long to press the button and with that, he was left flat footed when the sprint went on. Senior rider takes over now and with that 1800m run under the belt, better off here I assume and $12+ seems silly.
2 Well Well Well (Bet Now: $3.30) is a Barry Baldwin trained mare that took a little while to break the maiden tag but it finally happened and she made sure it was an impressive win, which came at this track/distance when leading throughout and giving her rivals a spanking by over four lengths. Lands near the front here and is hard to beat.
Fitter and up in trip I do like for 8 Cash Bundle (Bet Now: $18.00). Ran over 1400m here two weeks ago where he was back near last in the run and never really a winning factor, but liked the way he found the line late in the piece behind Cubic Zirconia. Like him up to 1800m and should do no work from the gate. One to include in exotics.
Race 9. (22:30) Butler Mcdermott Lawyers Mdn 1300m
In the corner of 10 Strictly Physical (Bet Now: $8.00), resuming for the Darryl Hansen team. Debuted in a strong race at Rockhampton and was more than sound in defeat when third in a race where the form out of it has been good. Liked the recent trial and do like the booking of Fradd for the resumption. Hard to beat.
16 Semifox (Bet Now: $3.50) looks to have her share of ability for Desleigh Forster. Resumed over 1350m at Ipswich when somewhat unwanted in betting, starting double figures, and I actually thought she ran a solid race when third to Kaaydeh. She will come on from that, draws soft, and back 50m in trip is no issue.
15 Miss Gold Bounty (Bet Now: $6.50) should be suited up to 1300m. Resumed over 1000m here and just looked in need of the run. Didn’t show any real early toe and was odd the bit a fair way out. Made up some ground but never really a winning threat. Gets a good gate and extra ground, with fitness, knockout chance.
Race 10. (23:00) Access Insulation S.coast Mdn 1300m
6 Brazen Breccia (Bet Now: $2.25) looks a standout here. Formerly with the Price/Kent stable in Victoria but now finds himself in Queensland with David Vandyke. Had two runs down south and the second run was very good on speed when third to Miss Conduct in a race which has produced four winners. Looks the way to go, comfortably.
14 Lady Grazier (Bet Now: $7.00) is a Tony Gollan trained filly that has had a couple of runs back from a spell, each coming at 1200m. Latest run she didn’t exactly quicken but picked up late and was sound, looking like a horse that would appreciate further, and that is what she gets this time around. Leading chance.
13 Topline (Bet Now: $7.50) isn’t a horse I could back to win with confidence but could certainly entertain for multiples. Raced at the Gold Coast on Cup Day where the market didn’t want a bar of her and it was spot on as she was dreadful after seemingly getting every chance. Has been costly for punters but her best would see her run well and finish in the first four.
