Race 1. (11:45) Tab Highway Hcp (C2) 1400m
9 Melody Again… (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) she’s getting close to D-Day surely? Ran two weeks ago in the Highway here where she got back off the speed and did loom to win when asked for the big effort but couldn’t quite get there when third to Overlord. Think she’s been crying out for 1400m all prep and she gets it here. With that in mind, I think she is the way to go, but it’s last chance territory.
13 Eight Of A Kind (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is heading in the right direction for Danielle Seib, a trainer that is no stranger to winning a Highway. Impressive all the way winner at Goulburn last time, producing sustained speed from the front and gave nothing else a look in to win impressively. Good test here and a query at 1400m, but with her racing style, she’ll give herself every chance.
12 Miss Thatcher (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Tim Martin trained mare that I am not penning. She ran two weeks back in the Highway won by Overlord and she was a real eye catcher, warming to the task nicely from near last on the turn to be beaten just over three lengths. Has a gate to settle much closer and still be effective at the end.
Race 2. (12:20) Bankstown Sports (Bm78) 2000m
2 Wineglass Bay (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is fourth up from a spell and should just about be ready to go. Thought he was good to go when racing here two weeks ago but had every chance on speed. Was there to put the race away but couldn’t finish it off, nabbed late by Travelling Kate. That is two runs on the bounce at 1800m so I think getting to 2000m…it’s last chance territory.
3 Travelling Kate (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is flying for Brad Widdup and is one of the key threats. Let down nicely to win at the midweeks at Canterbury two back before proving that was no fluke with a win over 1800m here a fortnight back, wearing down Wineglass Bay to win well. 2000m should be fine and hard to knock the way she’s racing.
I’m very wary of 4 Mayfair Spirit (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) for Maher/Eustace. Three weeks between runs since racing over 2000m at Flemington where he got a mile out of his ground in a sit/sprint and was never a winning factor but really did like the way he found the line. He strikes a very winnable race here and off last start, he’s certainly a winning threat.
Race 3. (12:55) Mounties Group (Bm78) 1500m
8 Marquess (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks a really nice horse for James Cummings and confident he can make it 2/2 to start the prep. He resumed at the midweeks at Warwick Farm where he got back off the speed, wide with cover, before blending into the race with purpose on the turn and drew clear late for a dominant win. Progressive, heading in the right direction, the one to beat.
6 Green Shadows (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has had two runs on the bounce at 1400m to start the prep so third up at 1500m, it looks an ideal set up. He was specked late when racing here a fortnight back and tried his guts out, looming to win, but had no answers for the finale of Chorlton Lane. Has good upside to come and home track advantage, so don’t pen her.
4 Danish Prince (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and give them something to chase. He did that two weeks back over 1400m here and gave a solid kick but couldn’t quite finish it off behind a nice horse, Chorlton Lane. Tim Clark sticks and if he leads, getting some level of control, he’ll take beating.
Race 4. (13:30) Midway (Bm72) 1800m
Fitter and up to 1800m, I am keen on 3 Casual Connection (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) running well. John Sargent trained gelding that resumed over 1500m here two weeks ago. He got back to near last in the run and while he was never a threat, I did like the way he found the line late in the piece behind Strait Acer, a horse I do have time for. Might want one more and 2000m+, but has more upside than most and will be strong at the end.
10 Monfelicity (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has found winning form and she can go on with it. This mare looked an absolute moral when racing last Thursday at Hawkesbury and #They got it spot on as she made a mess of them over 1800m and was far too good, relishing the drop to Provincial grade. Back to town, Midway, in form, home track advantage…the one to beat.
6 Dreamdeel (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has run well at 2150m and won at 1800m previously so stepping up to that trip here, he appeals. He ran a fortnight back in the Strait Acer Midway here. He was solid from off the speed, getting the suck run and found the line pretty well, beaten 2.5L. Like him up in trip and with a more positive ride, he can take this out.
Race 5. (14:05) Cabra-Vale Diggers (Bm78) 1100m
7 Smashing Eagle (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should prove hard to beat. Ryan/Alexiou trained gelding that ran two weeks ago here where he was back near last in the run and it looked like it would be a horror show again but things fell into place, he got the splits and showed good change up speed to win impressively. Now he has got a win on the board, he can certainly go on with it.
9 Xtravagant Star (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) commands respect IMO. First run for Maher/Eustace came at the midweeks at Warwick Farm when wide no cover for the trip and was entitled to knock up but she kept finding and looked the winner, only to be nabbed late by Secaution. If that hasn’t busted her, she has the quality to take this out.
1 Delacour (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is one I can entertain for wider multiples. This mare ran in the Smashing Eagle race from two weeks back here. She got into a tricky spot from the wide gate and the early burn just told late in the piece behind the Ryan/Alexiou horse. With a more economical run in transit, she certainly has the quality to pinch this at a big price.
Race 6. (14:40) Campbelltown Catholic (Bm78) 1500m
10 Howgoodareyou (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks a smart mare for GaiBott and confident she can win again. She is a few weeks between runs since an all the way triumph on the Kenso, where she was there to be beaten but she found under pressure and was strong to the line in winning. Tick over trial was solid enough and with her racing style, she’ll give herself every chance.
5 Call Di (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a talented mare for Ryan/Alexiou that should prove hard to beat. She resumed a fortnight back over 1400m here where she looked all over a winner when presented by Clark but being first up, condition just gave way when second to Powerful Peg. Fitter and up in trip, and I reckon with a bunny to chase, more conservative steer, she’ll be far more effective.
2 Pierossa (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a talented mare for Team Snowden that resumes. She did a reasonable job in the Autumn, highlighted by a placing in the Kembla Grange Classic and a fourth in the Vinery Stud. Better suited over further, but her trial work has been more than encouraging.
Race 7. (15:15) Up And Coming Stks 1300m
10 Griff (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1300m. This colt was well specked at odds when racing in the Rosebud two weeks ago. He got back in the run before angling wider and letting down strongly despite doing a bit wrong, beaten just over 1.6L by Tiz Invincible. Fitter and up to 1300m, if he brings better racing manners, he can take this out.
3 Caballus (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a good colt and he can certainly take this out. Can easily make a case to say he should have won here a fortnight back at this track/distance but nothing went right for him and it ended up being a very ugly watch from a long way out, eventually running third to Kintyre. Impressive win the start prior, I am not dismissing him.
4 Kintyre (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has done little wrong in two runs back from a spell. Did more than enough fresh in a solid Newcastle maiden before racing two weeks back at this track/distance and yes, the rub of the green went his way, but credit to him, he took advantage and was able to get the win. Harder here, but is in with a shout.
Race 8. (15:50) San Domenico Stakes 1100m
The gate is tricky for 9 Kandinsky Abstract (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) but he does look a very nice horse. He resumes for Chris Waller, having not raced since an electric debut win at Canterbury earlier in the year, and was spelled soon after with the Spring in mind. If he gets luck from the gate, I thunk he’ll be strong late.
4 The Instructor (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks one of the hardest to beat for GaiBott. He was kept quite safe in betting when resuming a fortnight back in the Rosebud where he was on speed throughout and he just kept finding under pressure in a solid return when a narrow third to Tiz Invincible. Good racing style and with the run under the belt, he appeals.
11 Moravia (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a nice horse. He debuted over 900m at Newcastle where he was hard in the market as favourite and despite doing a bit wrong, he went through his gears and was impressive in winning. He’s got an engine under the hood and wouldn’t shock me at all if he measured up.
Race 9. (16:30) Dooleys (Bm100) 1400m
Think there is a good roughie in 9 Caprice Des Dieux (Bet Now:Β $SP.00). Former French galloper that made his Australian debut two weeks ago at Rosehill where nothing really went right for him in terms of getting clear air, that said the horse was green, but when eventually clear, I didn’t mind his finale. He could be a camel, potentially, but IMO there is enough upside/progression to say he’s worth a throw at the stumps.
12 Glint Of Silver (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. He has had two runs back from a spell, both coming here. Latest was a fortnight back where he loomed and tried his guts out after leading but couldn’t quite finish it off behind a good horse, Pericles. Good racing style and hard fit, he’ll take running down.
4 Mission Phoenix (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks to be in for a good prep. He had his first run for Joe Pride two weeks back over this track/distance where he was near the speed throughout and battled away pretty well in defeat without threatening behind Pericles. Good upside to come and has shown previously he can measure up in races like this.
Race 10. (17:05) Merrylands Rsl Club (Bm88) 1200m
11 Arts (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is better suited over further but she is a quality mare for Ed Cummings. She resumes, having not raced since the SA Oaks where she just looked a tired horse when down the track. She did a super job in her first prep and with two trials under the belt, she’s forward enough to run well, and will be strong at the end.
4 Munitions (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is sneaky flying for Richard Litt and can certainly take this out. He hasn’t raced since July 22 when a real eye catcher late at Rosehill behind the in form speed demon Omni Man. Been kept on ice but did look very nice in a tick over trial. Spots them a start but should be strong at the end. Hard to beat against these.
7 Brosnan (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has only won the one race but he is a horse with a decent engine under the hood. He resumes for Ryan/Alexiou, having not raced since the QLD Guineas when close up in defeat albeit had every chance behind Kovalica, who went on to win the Derby. I think being trained as a 1400m/1600m horse, he could jump out of the box and become a very good horse.
