26/3/2022 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Doomben

Tricky juvenile race on paper but I do feel that 5 Steady Ready (Bet Now: $2.40) has talent. This colt debuts for Team Sears and he comes here on debut off the back of an absolute spank job in a 650m trial win at Toowoomba when leading and going about his business under a hold. Has gate one and Tarrant, who rode in the trial, remains on.

9 Luna Rosa (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Danny Bougoure trained Lonhro filly that is having start one. Didn’t fire in a trial in the Spring before being spelled. Trialled at the Sunny Coast when leading throughout and looked to move pretty well. Not sure she’s good enough to win but one for multiples.

10 Titain Goddess (Bet Now: $7.50) is a stablemate of Luna Rosa that is also on debut. This girl trialled a couple of weeks back at the Sunny Coast and I thought she moved pretty well when second. Didn’t trial as well as Luna Rosa to my eye but interesting that Jimmy Orman is booked.

10 Knight Mariner (Bet Now: $1.95) looks one of the better bets on the program. He was a massive pass mark fresh at Doomben behind Cracker Essgee. He then went to Toowoomba where he led and that just isn’t his pattern, run down late by Dealmaker. Hard fit now and with a more conservative steer, he’ll take beating.

7 Deep Sceiva (Bet Now: $4.00) is knocking on the door to win one. Three weeks between runs since racing at Toowoomba when on speed and tried her guts out but couldn’t quite finish it off behind Tamilaide. Lands on speed here and in a race lacking overall depth, she is a threat.

3 Slow Hands (Bet Now: $8.00) is knocking on the door to win for Kelly Schweida. Comes back to the mile after racing over 2000m at Toowoomba where he tried hard but he just found ten furlongs a bridge too far behind Stardome. Like him back to 1600m and love Wilson-Taylor going on.

1 Menazzi (Bet Now: $4.00) has come back in super order for Stuart Kendrick. Tiff Brooker rode a peach race on the filly when winning two weeks ago at Eagle Farm. Got into the dream spot behind the speed before angling into clear air and she surged hard the final 50m to get the win. Back to her own age, she’ll take beating.

2 Sweet Margot May (Bet Now: $2.30) hasn’t done much wrong in a five start career for Natalie McCall. Lovely ride from Jaden Lloyd saw her win at Eagle Farm last time, coming with a well timed run from off the speed to score. Bit more depth here I feel, but she commands respect.

4 Mister Larrabee (Bet Now: $8.00) is a key chance. He was 1000m to 1300m when racing at Eagle Farm last time. He was trucking in the run and once he burst through, he looked the winner, but condition just blew out late behind Sweet Margot May. Now he has the 1300m run under the belt, it should hold him in good stead here.

5 Lekvarte (Bet Now: $2.35) is racing like she will eat up 2000m for Joe Pride. Just got too far out of her ground in the Kembla Grange Classic at Goulburn last time but was good late behind Pretty Amazing. The rise to 2000m looks ideal, she has solid form around her and stable is in form.

2 Southern Stock (Bet Now: $7.00) deserves another chance. He was kept quite safe in betting two weeks ago at Eagle Farm against Gypsy Goddess, with a bit of support to suggest he could beat the star filly with race fitness on his side, but he was too bad to be true, beating just one runner home. Prior effort was sharp and with no Gypsy Goddess here, he can bounce back.

1 Military Gambler (Bet Now: $7.00) is a query at 2000m but is an honest animal that should be around the mark. Sat on speed and battled away okay behind Gypsy Goddess. The trip is the unknown with him but if he gets a cheap run on speed, I think he will be okay and is a threat.

6 Ostermeir (Bet Now: $5.50) deserves a crack in town. He’s flying at the moment for Team Sweeney. He has won three on the bounce, all of which have come at Ipswich, the last two over 2150m, so the 2000m here is no issue. Just all depends if he can produce his best form away from Ipswich.

9 Fortified (Bet Now: $6.00) is knocking on the door to win one for Chris Waller. Looked like it would come two weeks ago at Eagle Farm and after looming, he just couldn’t quite finish it off and got the staggers late when third to Savvy Oak. He is a winner at Doomben, so giving him one last chance.

13 Lady Solerno (Bet Now: $12.00) looks much better suited at this level. Ran in a strong 90 three weeks back at Toowoomba and just found them a bit sharp when down the track behind Stardome, who ran well at Stakes level last Saturday at the Gold Coast. She can bounce back against this lot.

Keen on 13 Aidensfield (Bet Now: $1.85). First run for Desleigh Forster came over 1000m at Eagle Farm two weeks ago where she chased and kept closing off but was no match for a hard fit Osamu. Fitter and up to 1200m from a soft gate, bit of juice in the track, I think she’s a great bet.

7 Tickler (Bet Now: $16.00) is doing a really good job this time in for Ryan Tyrell. Toughed it out best to win two back on the Poly at the Sunny Coast. He then went to Eagle Farm when ridden with a sit and I liked the way he finished his race off behind Menazzi, finishing third. He commands respect on current form.

14 Contessa (Bet Now: $18.00) is a daughter of Headwater for Chris Waller that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since November 17 here when down the track behind a pretty smart animal in Fetch. Looks to have trialled up quite well leading in and can handle a bit of juice in the track.

13 Shamaton (Bet Now: $6.00) is a son of Whittington for Tony Gollan that resumes. He hasn’t raced since November 20 at the Sunny Coast when a close up second to the then in form Gee Tee Tee. He usually comes to hand early and he looked to truck in a recent trial here. Market will tell you if he’s ready.

16 Streaka (Bet Now: $2.10) has some quality form around him and looks to have returned in strong order. Resumed on the Poly at the Sunny Coast and he spanked them from the front, romping in by over four lengths. Clearly more depth here, but like him at the short course and down in the weights.

18 Xerri (Bet Now: $13.00) is a hard horse to catch but generally he is around the mark in these kind of races. That was the case at the Sunny Coast several weeks ago and he battled on pretty well in defeat when third to Shamrock Lu. His best is good enough to beat these. Just rather see him do it first.

John Smerdon looks like he will have some fun with 2 Get The Idea (Bet Now: $7.00). First run for the stable came over 1200m here a few weeks ago and I thought his finale was excellent in restricted room when fourth to Montenegro Man. Good second up record, extra 150m, he’ll take beating.

3 Parksville (Bet Now: $4.00) is a talented animal for Brett Dodson. He hasn’t raced since the Grafton Qualifier of the Country Championships when on speed and battling away okay when third to Far Too Easy. Given a mini break and has trialled up super. Wet track is also a tick.

11 Riot Act (Bet Now: $11.00) is a query on wet ground but he has returned in super order. He bolted up to win fresh at the Sunny Coast, and that effort followed some excellent work at the trials. Trialled up super since. The wet track and wide gate are two negatives but he’s flying.

6 Sir Rocket (Bet Now: $6.50) looks like he will be suited at 1350m here and is in form for Michael Costa. Didn’t disgrace himself at all two back at the Gold Coast behind Eleven Eleven before going to Doomben where he got a fair way out of his ground but was good late behind Dreamreacher. The way he’s racing, fresh legs here should be fine.

16 Lunakorn (Bet Now: $8.50) is certainly capable of taking this out if she brings anywhere near her best. Resumed in the Triscay at Randwick where she failed to fire a shot behind Snapdancer in a race shape that was totally against her. Back to this level, she appeals I feel.

8 Academy (Bet Now: $14.00) has now had a full prep with Tony Gollan so I am keen to see how he resumes. He had one run for the stable at the end of last prep when down the track at the Sunny Coast. Given a good break, and I thought his recent trial win was a strong piece of work. Keen to see how he goes fresh.

NEXT BEST: Race Six Number 13 Aidensfield

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 6 Sir Rocket
