Group l racing continues at Randwick this Saturday, with the Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) highlighting the ten race program. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out five metres from the 1600m-Winning Post; Out three metres for the remainder.

2 Comedy (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the way I am leaning for James Cummings, who seemingly has a strong hand in this race. This guy does look #1 seed given he closed off strongly in a trial here on Tuesday, his second trial, so he’s sure to be well educated for start one and I think McEvoy has been given the #1 seed for the stable given he trialled a couple of them but rides this guy.

5 The Little General (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of All Too Hard for GaiBott. This colt trialled at Randwick earlier in the monthw here near the speed and fought on well enough in defeat I thought when second to Comedy. In the right camp when it comes to babies, he’ll press forward and run a bold race I am sure.

8 Lapis Lazuli (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is on debut for James Cummings off two trials, running third each time. First trial came at Rosehill before going here on Tuesday when asked for the effort but kept on in a good piece of work. Maps to get a soft trip in transit and I think she’ll be strong at the end.

9 Mad Darcey (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a proven Midway performer and has to be forgiven for the first up flop. She resumed at Hawkesbury and on face value, she was terrible, but she was found to be 2/5 lame post race so a clear excuse for the flop. Good record at Randwick and had trialled up super prior to the return. Giving her another chance.

6 Lancaster Bomber (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Richard Litt trained gelding that has run well at the Midway level previously and comes here in positive form after racing at the midweeks on the Kenso when just off the speed and he tried hard but found one better, just, in a good horse, Crafty Eagle. That from reads well for this.

4 Putt For Dough (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Mick Attard trained gelding that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since August 15 at Rosehill when doing work to land on speed and fought hard but couldn’t quite see it through when tiring late behind Gold Pattern. Good record at Randwick, good racing style, he can run a forward race fresh.

4 Volcanic Love (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Scott Henley trained gelding that has an engine under the hood. He comes through the Castillian race from two weeks ago at Eagle Farm where he was a bit flat footed when the sprint went on but he kept finding the line in a good effort. Up to the mile, more positive ride, I think he’ll take beating.

17 Straight Fire (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is bursting to win for Todd Smart. She has run in Highways her past two, the latest being at Rosehill a fortnight back. She got back to near last and covered ground but she kept finding the line in a strong effort behind Who Ever Thought. 1600m is the query but with a more economical run, she takes beating.

8 Mazita (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should love the rise to the mile. He has run well at 2000m previously so getting to 1600m should be ideal after racing in the Who Ever Thought Highway from two weeks back. He got a mile out of his ground but was good late in the piece. Gets a rise in trip and I think with a more positive steer, he’s a leading contender.

4 Smashing Time (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a nice horse for Team Price on the up and comes here off a win at Kembla where there were a few nervous moments in the run but in the end, class came to the fore and he was too good. He has the potential to be a very good horse and off the return, I say he’s one of the leading chances here.

8 Amazing Eagle (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a maiden but has looked to have had an engine under the hood since day one. He resumes, having not raced since the Black Opal where he placed and was game in defeat behind Holmes A Court. He has trialled up like a rocket for the return and while he’d be $1.10 in a maiden, this is very interesting placement, so watch the market.

7 Don’t Forget Jack (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has to be given another look. He was too bad to be true at Doomben when resuming. He got back to near last in the run and just never got involved behind stablemate Scripted. Maps to settle much closer, gets Nash…I think he’s quite dangerous against these.

6 Depth Of Character (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has to be given another look for Neasham/Archibald. He comes through the Dulcify from three weeks back where they rode him very warm on speed and it backfired, dropping out to finish last behind Swiftfalcon. He has the quality to measure up. Just want to see a patient steer.

2 Just Party (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door for Ryan/Alexiou. He comes through the Tapp-Craig when back on the fence, spotting those in front a tidy start, but I really liked the way he found the line late in the piece behind Anode, just missing out on the win. Up to the mile and a more positive ride, he takes beating.

5 Althoff (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to be back on track for Chris Waller and is a threat. Sneaky good run from him behind Anode two weeks back. He was near last and while he was never threatening, he worked home with real purpose in a good piece of work. Up to the mile, bigger track and fitter, he can win.

2 Fawkner Park (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has these on toast if he’s going any good. The question being, is he indeed going any good? Not sure he was ridden the best in the Underwood but that said, he was quite plain late in the piece. Fitter, back miles in grade/depth…he just looks to have lengths on these I feel.

3 Lindermann (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a big improver here for Chris Waller. He resumed in the Alan Brown where he was pretty much there for a barrier trial, ridden very negatively and finished down the track. Has a gate to settle much closer, Moreira rides, good upside…dangerous.

10 New Endeavour (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will put himself on speed and look to give his all. He was there to be a threat in the Hill Stakes but he couldn’t quite see it through and just felt the pinch late in the piece behind Attrition. Hard fit, will press forward and his best is more than good enough to be dangerous.

I am going to keep the faith with 3 Henlein (Bet Now:  $SP.00). On face value, just a run in the Gloaming two weeks ago, but I will say the ride from Tommy was that of a barrier trial. He jumped well but dragged back all the way to last and he was just never a factor. He’s been crying out for 2000m, a big track…just needs a positive steer and he will only run well.

2 Swiftfalcon (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a good horse and is clearly hard to beat. He spanked them in the Dulcify two back before backing up a week later in the Gloaming where he was ridden like a barrier trial but his finale in defeat was excellent behind El Castello. Love the rise to 2000m for him and is a definite threat.

4 Firm Agreement (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is in with a shout. The maiden win was impressive at Newcastle and then he stuck to the task really well in the Gloaming. I think he’ll get across via El Castello and should that eventuate, I think he can run a positive race and represents slight overs.

Grahame Begg has openly stated that this is the Grand Final for 2 Magic Time (Bet Now:  $SP.00), with the Rupert Clarke there as an afterthought, but it’s chips in for this and it is chips in for me. She has lengths on these surely? Did more than enough first up, she’s a track/distance specialist, handles all conditions, has versatility re racing pattern and is the class factor, by some distance.

7 Makarena (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has to be given another look for Team Hawkes. Total forgive in the Alan Brown for mine, sitting wide no cover throughout and that early burn just told in the straight when down the track behind Here To Shock. Off the win prior in the Golden Pendant, that is good enough to take this out.

3 Belclare (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is getting back to somewhere near her best I feel. Bjorn Baker trains this former Kiwi and I think she’s back on track via the Alan Brown where she had the suck run and loomed to win but just couldn’t quite see it through behind Here To Shock. Hard fit now and back to Mares grade, she takes beating.

12 Territory Express (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is humming for the Five Diamond and I think this will be ideal tune up. He resumed two weeks ago in the Alan Brown where he was one of the real eye catchers of the meeting, closing off with real purpose late in the piece behind Here To Shock. Fitter, up in trip, bigger track…I think good luck beating him.

6 Amor Victorious (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks the leader and from there, he’ll take running down. He got control three weeks back in the Shannon and the end result was an all the way triumph. He’s found winning form and he can certainly go on with it. One of the leading contenders.

11 Iknowastar (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will put himself on speed and look to give his all. He did that when resuming in the Alan Brown and although held late, he stuck on and was very good in defeat I thought behind Here To Shock. If he leads and gets some form of control, he’ll take running down.

7 Zoology (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will be the each way speck for me in the get out. This guy made his Australian debut three weeks ago at Rosehill where he drew widest, was wide, had 61kg…just forgive and forget the run. Maps to settle much closer in the run, gets serious weight relief, this isn’t a deep race and his overseas form reads so well.

4 Communist (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one I can entertain as a first four contender. He was held late by Desert Lightning at Sandown a few weeks back but his last 100m or wasn’t bad I thought for a horse who was a month between runs. He’ll take good improvement off that and is a Group l winner at the mile. Doubt he wins, but a first four threat.

9 Sounds Of Heaven (Bet Now:  $SP.00) needs to run well here I say to warrant a trip to Melbourne for a race like the Matriarch. Thought she did more than enough first up in the Golden Pendant before going to the Angst last Saturday where she was a bit on the plain side behind Lekvarte. If she brings her best, she can win.
