Race 1. (12:45) Lone Pine Mdn Plate 1400m
1 Convergent (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is one of the better each way gambles across Australia for the day. He is on debut for Team Lee after formerly being with Anthony Cummings. His two trials for the new stable have been excellent to my eye and he looks to have an engine under the hood. Big price and keen each way.
8 She Rex (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is knocking on the door to break the maiden status. She resumed over 1300m at Warwick Farm when near the speed and she tried hard but just couldn’t quite finish the job. Fitter and up in trip, she appeals.
7 Ivy Legend (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes back to 1400m for Team Hawkes after racing over 1500m at Newcastle. She landed on speed and tried hard but just felt the pinch late. Not sure I could back her to win but she is a knockout hope with her racing style.
Race 2. (13:20) The Passchendaele Mdn Plate 1250m
4 Kundabung (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) on top in what looks a two horse race. He ran over 1200m at Newcastle last start where he got back off the speed and took a little while to wind up but when clear, he was very good late. If he can use the gate, settle closer, he’s the one to beat.
5 Maori Chief (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is an interesting runner. Stablemate of Kundabung that is first up, where he has shown promise throughout his career but hasn’t quite put it together. Just one soft trial but he has talent so watch betting.
2 Faceoff (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1250m after racing over 1100m last time behind Extreme Diva where he seemed to have his chance but was far from disgraced in defeat. Up in trip is a positive and stable is going well.
Race 3. (13:55) The Somme Classic (Bm64) 1250m
2 Engine Room (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks to have returned in really good order and is one of the hardest to beat. He resumed over 1300m at Warwick Farm where he gave them a start and a beating to win impressively. Heading in the right direction snd no reason why he can’t make it 2/2.
3 Hell To Pay (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is an O’Shea/Charlton trained three year old that resumes. He hasn’t raced since Feb 1 at Newcastle when off speed and kept chasing in a good effort. Liked the way he has trialled leading in, I’d watch the market and see what it does.
5 One Last Shot (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is one I can entertain for exotics. He resumed at Hawkesbury when on speed throughout and he tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through. Good racing style and should be better for the first up run.
Race 4. (14:30) Home Front (Bm78) 1800m
4 Misterkipchoge (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is interesting up to 1800m. He ran over 1500m at Hawkesbury where he was a real eye catcher, working home with real purpose late in the piece when fourth to Enter The Dragon. Up in trip I like, he is talented and good enough to win.
6 Bestower (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1800m after racing over 1500m at Hawkesbury last time out where she got back to near last in the run and while she was never a winning threat, she did make up headway and was good in defeat. Hard fit now and up in trip, she appeals.
7 Highborn Harry (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran third in the same race that Bestower contested. He too got a fair way out of his ground but you had to like the way he finished his race off in defeat. He will love the extra ground and the stable does have a good record on the Kenso track. Definite winning chance.
Race 5. (15:05) Anzac Day Cup (Bm78) 2400m
3 Sun God (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has had a couple of runs down under for Chris Waller and is one of the leading contenders. He was a pass mark first up here behind Stay Focused before jumping straight to 2100m at Sandown where he tried hard but condition just gave way late in the piece behind She’s A Hustler. Hard fit now, I think he’s a leading contender.
4 Campaldino (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) commands respect for GaiBott. He won the Orange Cup last time and yes, he beat nothing, but it was over 2100m and what impressed me was how strong he was to the line in winning, suggesting 2400m is ideal, and this race is thin.
1 Double Cherry (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is fourth up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness after racing behind Philipsburg a fortnight back when near the speed and he tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through. Hard fit, firmer footing, his best is clearly good enough.
Race 6. (15:40) The Kokoda (Bm72) 1250m
2 Iconic Treasure (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. He ran over 1200m at Newcastle last start where he seemed to get a decent enough run in transit and had his chance but couldn’t quite finish the race off. He was a few weeks between runs there so upside/improvement, he’s dangerous.
4 Botanica (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a key threat. He was plain first up so he had a few weeks off snd ran a much improved last time when attempting to lead throughout and gave a strong kick but felt the pinch late. Fitter, he appeals.
9 Miss Checkoni (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) doesn’t win out of turn but given this isn’t a deep race, she’s in with a shout. She comes back to 1250m after racing over 1350m at Wyong when off speed and just battled late. I doubt she wins, but she can run top four.
Race 7. (16:15) Battle Of Fromelles (Bm64) 1400m
2 Hallett (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) had been freshened up for GaiBott since March 19 when racing at Wyong and was a bit on the plain side late in the piece. Tick over trial was pretty good to the eye, she’ll press forward and gets in well after the claim. Her best is good enough to beat these.
11 Pelosa (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a key threat. She was big odds when winning her maiden at Hawkesbury but you have to give credit to her, she spanked them and ran time. The knock is that win, she was $14. Now at metro level, she is $3.30. But, she looks promising.
4 Linwood (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1400m after resuming over 1200m where she raced off speed and was held up at times but did have her chance. Racing like she wants more ground, she gets that here, as well as the claim…I’d watch betting and see what it does.
Race 8. (16:50) The Gallipoli (Bm78) 1400m
11 Kadall (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1400m after resuming over 1300m at Hawkesbury. He got a decent enough run in transit and tried hard but just couldn’t quite get there when third to Written In Code. He has good upside/improvement to come and up in trip, he appeals.
9 Sydney Bowler (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should just about be at peak fitness and has a touch of quality about him. He was a few weeks between runs when racing over 1300m at Hawkesbury. He got off speed before angling wider and finished his race off strongly in defeat behind Written In Code. Fitter and up in trip, he appeals.
3 Well Timed (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is capable with his best. He comes through the Provincial Midway Final where he got back in the run and in a race dominated by the front few, he couldn’t quite get involved when down the track behind Matcha Latte. His best is good enough to win.
