25/4/2023 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Gawler, Anzac Day races

Gawler will play host to a seven event meeting on Tuesday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

8 Queen In The North (Bet Now:  $SP.00) gets her D-Day and in a thin maiden, I will side with her. She was kept quite safe in betting at Oakbank last time but didn’t seem to handle the track at all, finishing down the track behind Storyteller. Back onto a bigger track and with Blinkers first time, ideal gate, she gets her chance to get into the winners list. But it is well and truly D-Day.

5 Ballon D’Or (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks the main and perhaps only threat. Clarken/O’Shea trained filly that debuted at Clare where she didn’t quite seem 100% happy on the tight track and tried hard but couldn’t finish it off when third to Aunty Doll. The depth here is very much on the thin side and with upside to come, good camp, rates as a key winning chance.

6 Missile Star (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a daughter of Smart Missile that resumes for Team Jaensch. She hasn’t raced since November 23 at Balaklava when doing work to hold a forward spot and that early burn told late when down the track behind Aesculus. Been given a good break and his trial on Thursday was a pretty good piece of work and with a prep under the belt, she can run a much improved race.

9 Solar Blast (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has had a few chances to break the maiden tag but I think he gets a great opportunity here. He ran over this track/distance last time out where he was just off the speed and and kept finding the line, just missing out on the win when a narrow second to Tosen Water. He was first up there so with improvement to come, he rates highly against these.

12 Even Sharper (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should prove hard to beat for the Macdonald/Gluyas camp. He debuted at the Easter Monday meeting at Oakbank over 1100m where he attempted to lead throughout and gave a strong kick under Voorham but couldn’t quite get there when second to Cullen Skink. He gets a jockey upgrade and being gelded, he rates highly against these.

Not sure 3 Miami Star (Bet Now:  $SP.00) wins but I think for wider multiples, you can entertain him. He ran at Oakbank on Easter Monday where he was wide with cover and tried hard to get involved. Far from disgraced but safely held to the line behind Barbra’s Wish. The gate makes things tricky but if he is able to get decent cover, he could pinch a first four spot.

10 Just Joking (Bet Now:  $SP.00) gets the Blinkers on first time and a rise in trip, plus a bigger track, so she’ll do me. She has caught the eye in three career outings, the latest coming over the mile at Strathalbyn where she got a mile out of her ground and was never threatening but did make up headway and was solid enough in defeat behind Vee Rod. Holder on, Blinkers on, rise in trip, happy to be in her corner.

11 Puissy Galore (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the key and perhaps only threat. Team Jolly trained filly that has been strong in two runs. Did more than enough fresh at Strathalbyn before going to Balaklava where she got back in the small field and took a while to wind into her work but was pretty good to the line when a close up third. Blinkers on and up in distance, she appeals.

12 Vic Reel (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has had a few chances to break the maiden tag but she is a filly who did show promise when last in work. She resumed over 1500m here and was a bit on the plain side I thought in defeat behind Wine Barron, running up to the late market drift. Moved well enough in a trial on Thursday and with luck from the wide gate, I wouldn’t totally pen her.

Fitter and up to 1200m are two big ticks for 2 Jacks On Ice (Bet Now:  $SP.00). He was well specked at odds when resuming a few weeks back over 1050m at Morphettville and while he wasn’t a winning threat, he wasn’t too bad in the run to the line behind a handy sprinter, Magic Max. Good second up record and getting a rise in trip, more positive ride, he can certainly take this out.

Fitter and up to 1200m are two big ticks for 4 Super Sharp (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Macdonald/Gluyas trains this gelding, who was kept relatively safe in betting when resuming over 1050m at Oakbank where he was near the speed throughout, somewhat against his pattern, and he tried hard but couldn’t quite finish it off when fourth to Classy Kenny. Like him up in trip and will be dangerous with a more conservative steer.

9 Proud Mary (Bet Now:  $SP.00) doesn’t have the best of winning strike rates but she will be strong late if they overdo it in front. Her last couple of runs have come over 1350m at Port Lincoln, the latest being a few weeks ago where she got back in the run but saved ground and was solid late when third to Axecapital. More so a first four contender than a winning contender but gets in very well after the claim.

3 McCain (Bet Now:  $SP.00) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. He was specked at odds when resuming at Oakbank on Easter Monday but unfortunately for his fans, he got a mile out of his ground and was never a factor, but was pretty good late in the piece behind Classy Kenny, beaten four lengths. He was building nicely but he just ran out of condition. Has the run under the belt and can settle much closer.

4 Fourth Power (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the one with upside/progression and a good racing style. Did more than enough on debut on the Parks track at Morphettville before going to Port Lincoln where he looked a moral on paper and duly saluted, leading throughout and giving nothing else a look in. The rise to 1100m is interesting but if this track is playing up/in, he’ll be hard to get past.

13 Sanbuck (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and give a sight. He was specked at odds when racing at Morphettville last Saturday and he gave a sight but couldn’t quite finish it off behind Celsius Star. This looks more his go, provincial, and this track can play up/in, so if that eventuates, he’ll take running down.

15 Mojo Classic (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks ready to rock and roll and finds a very winnable race. He’s had a few runs for the Clarken/O’Shea camp, the latest run being a few weeks ago at Morphettville where he kept finding the line from off the speed but was no match late for Crown Mint. He’s fourth up from a spell so he should be at peak fitness and the depth here is nowhere near as strong.

9 Flight Deck (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has found winning form and he can certainly go on with it now. He had to find a very moderate Class One to get the win, but it came at Oakbank, when ridden somewhat arrogantly by Neindorf, but he had lengths on them so that was the way to ride him. Ride him like a good thing and he was. He can measure up here for sure.

5 Ace Attack (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should appreciate racing back to this level. He ran at Oakbank in the Country Cup where there was depth to it and he was one of many for the two days that struggled on the tight track behind Havaduel. He has a good record at Gawler and the rise in trip, plus a soft gate I think he can run a much improved race.

3 Tanaawol (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win again. He was an eye catcher two back at Oakbank before going to Strathalbyn last Wednesday and was good from off the speed when second to Santelmo Fuego. His lone win this prep did come at this track/distance and I do think getting back to 1500m is a big tick. Hard to beat.

5 Allusion (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has come back in pretty good order and is one of the leading chances. He has placed in both runs back from a spell, the latest coming over 1400m at Oakbank on Easter Monday when back in the run and was good late without threatening when third to Fight For Freedom. Gets in well after the claim and with two 1400m runs under the belt, a rise to 1500m should suit.

2 Master Of Zerprise (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is capable with his best. He was thrown in the deep end last time out in the Mount Gambier Cup and found the class a bit rich when down the track behind Clever Man. Back to 1500m I find interesting but the depth is far weaker and if they overdo it in front, he’ll be strong at the end, stronger than most.
