The Parks track at Morphettville is where SA racing heads to this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (6) and the rail is out nine metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; Out six metres for the remainder.

Race 1. (12:57) Afl Masters (Bm62) 1550m
3 Free Vino (Bet Now:Β $4.20) looks like he will eat up 1550m. He ran in the 1300m maiden from two weeks ago here when back, wide with cover and on the back of the eventual winner. He just lacked the change up speed when asked but picked up and was good late when third to Commander Meroo. He won’t be far away with the small field and should be strong late.
1 Merchant Boss (Bet Now:Β $2.45) will jump on the bunny and prove hard to beat. Attempted to lead throughout a fortnight back over 1400m here and looked all over a winner when he kicked, just getting nabbed on the peg by Anphina. Last bit will test, but gets a kind map.
5 More Reward (Bet Now:Β $2.70) is knocking on the door to win. This filly is still a maiden but she’s been close up her past couple, the latest coming here when off the speed and didn’t stop chasing behind Anphina. 1550m is the little query but I think off last start, it should be okay.
Race 2. (13:32) Furphy (Bm72) 1950m
1 King’s Charisma (Bet Now:Β $3.60) should be winning this if they decide to come this way. Four weeks between runs since racing at Warracknabeal where he had no luck in the straight and should have won when a narrow second to Pres De Toi. He has panels on these and hopefully they decide to come this way.
5 Trumpsta (Bet Now:Β $5.00) will be strong late if he’s within range. He ran behind Exalted Ruth a fortnight back here where he was back off the speed in a slowly run race but picked up when clear and was okay late in the piece. The run prior behind Moscow Red was good and that horse won last Saturday, so the form reads well.
4 Ichibansan (Bet Now:Β $3.50) is hit and miss but is racing a bit more consistently this time in. Ran over this track/distance two weeks ago where he sat on a moderate speed and fought on really well, only getting nabbed on the peg by Exalted Ruth. If this track is playing towards those on speed, he’ll take beating once again.
Race 3. (14:07) Thomas Farms Mdn Plate 1000m
10 Pompeii Empire (Bet Now:Β $3.10) on top but not really a race I want to get involved in. He debuted on the course proper here back in April when kept quite safe in betting and wasn’t beaten far behind a handy enough horse, Prairie Flower. Jumpout was good, lands on speed and stable is in form.
9 Pinchbeck (Bet Now:Β $8.00) is in with a shout. Trialled up quite well prior to debuting over 900m at Murray Bridge where he was near the speed throughout and stuck to the task pretty well, albeit held late when third, beaten three lengths. I think his best chance to win will be jump/run because IMO the last bit will test.
13 Big Feelings (Bet Now:Β $18.00) looks a jump/run type so the 1000m on the Parks track from the good draw is an ideal set up. She debuted last Sunday at Mindarie-Halidon when on speed and fought on really well in defeat when third to Sugar Glider. Last bit will test, but she has the right pattern it seems to command respect.
Race 4. (14:42) Fleurieu Milk Company (Bm82) 1250m
3 Manhatten Times (Bet Now:Β $2.90) is a quality four year old for the Macdonald/Gluyas camp that resumes. He hasn’t raced since The Goodwood where he was down the track in a race shape not suited to him behind Lombardo. Thought he moved well in a recent jumpout and fresh at 1250m tells me he’s here to rock and roll. Watch the market.
6 Melba Storm (Bet Now:Β $3.30) is a key threat. First run for Tom Dabernig came on testing ground at Geelong and while she was never a threat, I didn’t mind the way she finished her race off behind I Am War. Better for the run and finding Vorster from a soft gate, she’s hard to beat.
1 Bold Star (Bet Now:Β $7.50) is a hard horse to catch but the return was encouraging. That came a few weeks back on the course proper here and he was good late without threatening when fourth to Noname Lane. He’s a good second up performer and we know at his best that he is a Stakes class animal.
Race 5. (15:19) Spring Carnival At Morp.(Bm68) 1400m
11 The Map (Bet Now:Β $8.50) is a handy mare that resumes. This four year old was heading down the Oaks path when last in work but didn’t gain a run. That said, she was far from disgraced in the lead ups and then the Fillies Classic. Trial and jumpout to get ready and I like that she resumes at 1400m, a trip which is long enough for her to run a positive race.
9 Eyes Never Lie (Bet Now:Β $3.90) should get a suck run from the inside gate and 1400m will be okay because of the map. She ran behind Cool Magnum here a fortnight back where she had the suck run behind the speed and battled away well enough. Has been costly from a punters perspective but maps ideally.
10 Fox Gem (Bet Now:Β $12.00) has a few loose screws upstairs but does have an engine under the hood. He got a fair way out of his ground last Wednesday at Balaklava but was very good late when second to Improvident. The rise to 1400m is a big tick. Just needs luck from the draw.
Race 6. (15:59) The Junction (Bm76) 1000m
8 Keep Reading (Bet Now:Β $4.60) is a hard horse to follow and trust but the market keeps finding him so he must be doing something at home that’s impressing someone. He was on speed three weeks ago and seemingly had every chance but tired late behind Noname Lane, who franked the form in the Balaklava Cup. If he brings his best, he wins, but he’s getting close to D-Day.
3 Solar Gale (Bet Now:Β $5.50) is knocking on the door to win one for Michael Hickmott. Looked like it would come here two weeks back but just found one better, just, in the well tried Daring Move. He’s yet to run a bad race since a mini freshen up and with his racing style, he’s suited at the Parks 1000m.
1 Thompson’s Reward (Bet Now:Β $16.00) is dangerous back to 76 grade. His recent runs have come in 82 company and he has been far from disgraced, the latest being three weeks back when close up behind Noname Lane, the subsequent Balaklava Cup winner. Clearly reads well for this.
Race 7. (16:39) The Fotobase Group Hcp (62) 1000m
11 Lockdown Sally (Bet Now:Β $4.20) on top but I wouldn’t be declaring her. Looked a moral when resuming on Balaklava Cup Day in a maiden and despite a few nervous moments, class came to the fore and she was dominant late. They tried to stretch her to 1200m last prep but I do think 1000m is her go in life. Hard to beat.
6 Jimmys Edge (Bet Now:Β $6.00) comes back to town in ripping form after making a mess of his rivals last Wednesday on Balaklava Cup Day, sitting near the speed before being clicked up by Neindorf and away he went. Scratchings has thinned this race out so he’s a leading contender.
14 Fields Of Athenry (Bet Now:Β $7.50) is knocking on the door. Forgive run two back at Murray Bridge behind Cheloon. They then rode it with a sit a few weeks back on the course proper here and she ran a much improved race, looming as the winner but just failing to pick up Elsa’s Pride. Ridden with a sit, she can take out a race like this.
Race 8. (17:19) Quayclean (Bm60) 1550m
11 Graceful Eagle (Bet Now:Β $4.40) is flying. Ran on Balaklava Cup Day last Wednesday where she got back in the run but Vorster was able to slice his way through the field and the mare did the rest, drawing clear to spank them, confirming her teasing runs prior. If she holds her form, she’ll take beating.
8 Imposing Secret (Bet Now:Β $10.00) is a Peter Hardacre trained gelding that is showing good promise. Was okay on debut at Bordertown before going to Murray Bridge where they rode him stone cold and the end result was an electric maiden win from the back. Stable rarely misfire when coming to town so he’s in the mix.
Fitter and up to 1550m are two big ticks for 1 Neodium (Bet Now:Β $4.60). He resumed over 1250m on the Parks track a few weeks back when near last in the run and while he was never a factor, he was good late behind Montign. The rise to 1550m is ideal and has more upside than most.
Race 9. (17:55) Grand Syn.-Join Team Grand-62 1250m
10 Salt Bay (Bet Now:Β $5.00) is knocking on the door to win one and I think she gets a great chance here. First run for Will Clarken came on the course proper here last Saturday where she looked to be trucking on the turn but was no match late for Turfitt. Ran second but comfortably beat the rest. On the back up, she’ll do me.
8 Scenic Host (Bet Now:Β $4.50) was scratched from Coleraine on Friday in preference for this. She has been excellent in two runs back from a spell, fresh seeing her run second at Murray Bridge before going to Morphettville and was good late when second to Nana Dulce. Hard fit now, with the claim, she appeals big time.
6 So You Can (Bet Now:Β $4.60) is suited up to 1250m. Three weeks between runs since racing over 1050m on the course proper when chasing from the outset and wasn’t suited at all when down the track behind Taunting, who ran well last Saturday in the Whylie. That reads very well for a moderate 62.
