24/11/2018 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Doomben, Recognition Stakes day

The Brisbane Summer Carnival continues this Saturday at Doomben where it is Recognition Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out 6.5 metres for the entire circuit.

I think you have to believe what you see when it comes to the debut win of 1 Master Jamie (Bet Now: $4.20) at Rockhampton. Showed good toe from the gate to lead and from that point on, it was a rather painless watch as he increased the lead with every stride and really put them away to win by a space and run time. Confident he can measure up.

11 Vincere Volare (Bet Now: $3.60) is a Tony Gollan trained filly having her first start. Bred to come to hand early and that looked the case with the trial win here on Tuesday. Showed good speed and won the trial, albeit narrowly, but she looked sharp. 1200m on debut is a tricky ask, but she’s in the right stable.

9 Luana (Bet Now: $15.00)  is a Helen Page trained daughter of Bel Esprit who debuted on her home track at the Gold Coast two weeks ago over 900m where she was tardy away and settled near last in the small field but did get clear and worked home well late. Up to 1200m with the run under the belt, she appeals.

The Ben Currie stable hasn’t quite shot the lights out when it comes to the Saturday metro meetings this season, but I think 3 Mishani Vaidra (Bet Now: $5.00)  can get the job done for him. Resumed on his home track at Toowoomba and sprouted wings late to win before racing here on Cup Day and closing off well to run second to Impasse. Third up, he should be hard fit, ready to go, and gets run of the race from the gate.

10 Sofie’s Gold Class (Bet Now: $4.40) is a Debbie Newham trained mare who put together a couple of sharp wins to kick off the prep before racing over 2000m here on September 29 where she got back and worked home well late when third to Impavido. On the fresh side at the mile, I think she can be quite competitive.

He didn’t beat much last time, but I think you have to stand up and take note of the arrogance 2 Fanx (Bet Now: $7.50) produced last time at Ballina. Aggressive tactics by Plumb saw the horse lead, comfortably, and really, after 200m he was never getting beat and romped away. If they adopt similar tactics, I think the mile will be okay.

3 Trusty Lad (Bet Now: $3.50)  is a Matty Kropp trained colt who resumed over the 1350m here three weeks ago and given that was short of his ideal trip, I thought he ran a beauty in defeat when third to Light Up The Room, with Plumaro ticking that form last Saturday. Winner at the track/distance, with upside, he’s likeable.

1 A Man To Match (Bet Now: $2.40)  is being touted as the good thing beat of the Spring and when watching the replay from the Sunny Coast a fortnight ago, it’s hard to disagree. He should have bolted in but just had no luck in the straight when full of running. The fact he got so close in the end was enormous. He’s the obvious…but you’ll be taking severe unders.

8 Mishani Roman (Bet Now: $14.00)  is a Ben Currie trained three year old who was down the track in the Light Up The Room race mentioned above before going to the Coastal Prince race that A Man To Match was unlucky in. He got back and made some ground, but never really threatened. Perhaps from the better draw he can sit closer.

Looks to be a stack of speed here so each way I’ll have something on 12 Ours To Keep (Bet Now: $15.00), who resumes for Chris Munce. Hasn’t raced since Ipswich Cup Day when down the track behind Envy Of All and racing like a tired horse. Two of his three career wins have come first up and he draws to get the run of the race.

3 Gracida (Bet Now: $4.00)  is a speedy seven year old resuming for David Vandyke. This bloke won the Chief De Beers at this track/distance during the Winter Carnival before being outclassed in the Healy. Thought the two trials at the Sunny Coast were pretty good to the eye and he has a very good first up record. How much pressure he cops on speed will be the query.

Class lies with 2 Irish Constabulary (Bet Now: $13.00)  and he’ll be flashing at the end. He’s been an absolute ripper for the Symons/Laxon team and is back for another prep with the Magic Millions in mind. Better suited on bigger tracks but has run well in the past at Doomben and the recent trial looked very good to the eye.

9 Bronzegate (Bet Now: $7.50)  will do me but this race is anyone’s for the taking really. He ran over 1700m at Ipswich last time and savaged the line late when clear, just missing out on picking up Cedarwood. Got plenty of upside and will love the rise in trip, plus Lloyd remains on. Just has to overcome the tricky gate.

4 So You Wish (Bet Now: $6.00)  is three weeks between runs for the Bevan Laming team after winning at this track/distance three weeks ago, coming with a well timed run out wide to nab them near the peg. Think the depth here is a bit stronger, but hard to knock the way he’s going at the moment and has to be respected.

3 Colour Of Money (Bet Now: $20.00)  was near two months between runs when racing over the mile at Ipswich last Wednesday where he settled off the pace and tried but for mine the tight track was against him when finishing just behind Fomo. Would love him on the bigger track, but up in trip, he could be a sneaky first four hope.

Giving 7 Awesome Pluck (Bet Now: $1.85) another chance. Just ran out of puff first up in the Kosciuszko behind Belflyer before racing at the Sunny Coast where he just got too far back from the wide gate and when they’re running home in 33.5, he would have had to run sub 33 to win. Near impossible. He can bounce back big time up in trip.

1 All Important (Bet Now: $8.50) is a Tony Gollan trained mare who looks to have really turned the corner this time in. Won his first two starts for the prep, both at Ipswich, before racing over 1200m at the Sunny Coast where he ran a close up third to Snitch in a race which looked to have good depth. Back to this level, he’s well placed.

3 Cedarwood (Bet Now: $14.00)  is a Chris Waller trained gelding who took an absolute eternity to break through for another win but it finally came last start at the Ipswich midweeks. On the turn it looked as if he’d won by an absolute space, but he only just fell in. He’s a hard one to trust, but at his best he can certainly beat this lot.

1 Volkhoff (Bet Now: $8.00) on ratings looks so well in at the weights. She’s a 99 rater and is only a kilo over the minimum so she’s the one I’ll side with. Carried half a kilo less than what she’ll lump on Saturday when winning impressively over 1050m here three weeks back, and that form doesn’t read too bad. 1200m the unknown, but the way she’s racing, I’ll side with her.

3 Plucky Girl (Bet Now: $3.20) is a talented daughter of Pluck resuming for the Toby Edmonds team. This girl really came of age when last in work, the highlights being a Tamworth Cup win and a placing in the Gai Waterhouse Classic at Ipswich. Very good fresh horse and looks ready to go off the back of two trials.

5 Of The Day (Bet Now: $17.00)  is a five year old mare for Tony Gollan that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since the Rockhampton Newmarket where she didn’t handle the wet track when down well beaten by Peacock. Not the greatest of fresh records, but first up here tells me there’s a bit of intent to run well first up.

I’ll have a throw at the stumps on an each way basis via 5 Dreams Aplenty (Bet Now: $9.50). Was on him when he resumed at the Sunny Coast a fortnight back where he attempted to lead all the way and gave a decent enough kick but just ran out of puff late. He likes racing at Doomben, should lead this field and give a bold sight.

2 Niccanova (Bet Now: $3.90)  is back and off the back of a confidence boosting prep where he bolted up at this track/distance on October 6. Always a fan of horses that are tipped out after a win. They return with confidence and this horse does seem the perfect example of a horse racing best when he has confidence.

Huge watch on 1 Gold Symphony (Bet Now: $27.00) , a former Snowden galloper that is now with Tony Gollan. This bloke hasn’t raced since the Winter Challenge at Rosehill back in July where he ran down the track behind Mister Sea Wolf. He can certainly win this if he’s anywhere near right, so he’s a yard/market watch.

8 Bat A Kat (Bet Now: $5.00)  is a beauty for the Darryl Hansen team and I can only see him running well here first up. Hasn’t raced since January 20 when running a narrow second over 1350m at this track. Been given a good break and I thought his trial last week behind the well performed Gracida was very good and Lloyd is booked.

11 I’ve Gotta Nel (Bet Now: $4.60)  returns to Brisbane for Barry Lockwood after a hit and run trip to Rosehill a fortnight back where he attempted to lead all the way and gave a kick but was no match late for the brilliance of Bon Amis. Serious doubts on him at a strong 1200m, but if he can land on speed without doing too much work, he’ll take beating.

If they go silly in front, look for 10 Denarius (Bet Now: $17.00)  to be warming to the task late. He hasn’t raced since early April at Beadesert when running a narrow second to a handy galloper in I Am The General. Can sprint well fresh and he likes racing at Doomben. Will spot them a start but will be strong at the end.

LONG SHOT: Race Eight Number 5 Dreams Aplenty
