Race 1. (12:05) Mrc Membership Renewal Hcp 1200m
5 Chopin (Bet Now: $8.00 TOP ODDS) is a colt I have plenty of time for. James Cummings trained juvenile that debuted on the Synthetic at Ballarat where he was off the bit on the turn but he kept finding and surged hard late to nab the odds on pop on the peg for a big win. Stable think he could be a Spring horse, so keen to see how he goes.
6 River Ribble (Bet Now: $2.50) is a Ribchester colt that the stable thinks could be a Caulfield Guineas horse. He didn’t beat much fresh at Cranbourne, and the time was nothing to jump up and down about, but the arrogance in which he put them away was very impressive. What level he can reach, not sure, but he looks a colt with talent and the early money has been sustained.
2 Cusack (Bet Now: $9.00 TOP ODDS) is a query at 1200m but gate one, I think they’ll try and dictate from the front. They rode him cold several weeks ago over 1100m at Caulfield and while he found the line okay behind Thron Bone, he was never a winning factor. I like him as a go forward horse and with a more positive steer, it wouldn’t shock me if he ran an improved race.
Race 2. (12:40) Vobis Gold Ingot 1400m
8 Boogie Dancer (Bet Now: $2.15 TOP ODDS) looks quite a progressive juvenile for Peter Moody and is hard to beat here. Lot of quality about her win last Wednesday at Sandown. Not sure she was entirely happy on the bog but she made an absolute mess of them in a commanding performance. Keen to see how she goes at this level.
2 Blakmax (Bet Now: $8.50 TOP ODDS) is a colt of some promise for Lindsey Smith. Narrow second on debut at Donald before going to Warracknabeal where they rode him with a sit over 1200m and the end result was a dominant win, really surging to the line with purpose, suggesting that a rise in trip would be ideal. He gets that here and is hard to beat.
1 Manhattan Thunder (Bet Now: $3.00 TOP ODDS) is a winning threat. John Sadler trains this Manhattan Rain juvenile, which produced a strong finale from off the speed to win on debut over 1100m at Sale, coming with a well timed run under Jamie Mott to score, producing good late splits. Jumps straight to 1400m but is bred to eat it up.
Race 3. (13:15) Royal Meeting All Class (Bm70) 1400m
Fitter and up to 1400m are two big ticks for the former Kiwi filly 4 Unusual Culture (Bet Now: $6.00 TOP ODDS). Australian debut came a few weeks back at Caulfield where she was on speed and tried hard but lacked the turn of foot when third to Chain Of Lightning. Good form at this distance and beyond, so she deserves another look.
6 Minouche (Bet Now: $4.00 TOP ODDS) looks to have returned well for James Cummings. Resumed at the midweeks over 1200m at Sandown and was quite good from off the speed when a closing third to the enigma that is Hello Broadcast. Really good promise was shown from her in the early part of the Autumn, so keen to see her at 1400m.
8 Mrs Sippy (Bet Now: $26.00 TOP ODDS) is one I can entertain for wider multiples. She ran fourth to Free Flying Star last Wednesday at Sandown and I actually thought she did a good job in defeat given the race shape was against her behind the Payne mare. If the tempo is more genuine here, she can bounce back and run a much improved race.
Race 4. (13:50) Mrc Chairman's Club Hcp 2400m
5 Sing For Peace (Bet Now: $3.60 TOP ODDS) doesn’t seem to have a turn of foot but the tick is that 2400m will be no issue off what I’ve seen to date. He beat nothing at Wodonga last time, but the win was enormous given he was wide no cover for the trip, the trip being 2050m. Has the P Payne polish and clearly got upside.
4 Shadow Hawk (Bet Now: $4.80 TOP ODDS) is a key threat for me. Busuttin/Young trained three year old that ran last start in the Mahogany Final where he got badly held up at a crucial stage. Whether it cost him the win, I doubt it, but he should have finished much closer when fourth to Calmsir. He’ll be strong at the end and hopefully gets clear air.
3 Forest Diamond (Bet Now: $4.20) will have no issue with 2400m given she ran a game second to Calmsir in the Mahogany Final. She was given a peach by Mott and was there to win but couldn’t quite hold off the outsider in a surprise result. Gets weight relief after the claim and stable is flying with their stayers.
Race 5. (14:25) Vobis Gold Stayers 2400m
2400m is a query with 3 No Effort (Bet Now: $3.20) but she does have a class edge and will be out of trouble on speed. I can’t and don’t blame Lachie King riding the way he did on the mare here last time, pushing the button on the turn and kicking several lengths clear. She looked home but fell in a hole and was bloused late. I think with more patience re pushing the button, she has enough class to get home.
1 Reuber (Bet Now: $10.00) is one who will appreciate this being a proper 2400m contest and not a sit/sprint. He appreciated the staying test when winning at this track/distance last time, albeit the depth was nowhere near as strong as what it was here IMO. But, he has found that winning feeling now and can certainly hold it.
5 Royal Crown (Bet Now: $17.00) is sneaky flying for Mick Kent and is a definite winning threat. Could easily make a case to say he should have won last Wednesday at Sandown but had little luck in the straight, which was quite amazing really given it was a five horse field and he got held up. But, he’s in a good staying camp and has been knocking on the door for some time.
Race 6. (15:05) Senet Gambling Law Experts Hcp 1200m
2 Pascero (Bet Now: $3.30) is in with a shout. He resumed in the Creswick and was far from disgraced behind some smart types, a race won by Passive Aggressive. Fitter, he is Stakes placed behind a high quality animal in Pinstriped, so he has to rate highly here against this lot.
3 Kooled (Bet Now: $6.50) just needs to tick the 1200m box at this level to be rated as one of the hardest to beat. Got a dream run here a fortnight back over 1100m and once he got the inside split, away he went and he was too good. If the six furlongs is okay, he’s hard to beat.
7 Soobooma (Bet Now: $20.00) looks suited up to 1200m for Ray Besanko. Last couple of runs have come over 1100m, the latest being here two weeks ago when back in the run and closing off well when third to Kooled, who had a suck run behind the speed and finished best. Track/distance winner three back, he appeals.
Race 7. (15:45) Stow Storage Solutions Hcp 1200m
6 Sigh… (Bet Now: $6.50) if you were on her two weeks ago, sorry for bringing it back up. She should have won, but McDougall just rode a poor race on the filly. He could have easily got into three wide line on the back of Cloudy, but chose to stay in and it ended up being an ugly watch. Give her clear air this time around and I think you’ll see a dynamic filly winning.
3 Snapped (Bet Now: $2.80) is a Team Freedman trained filly that resumes. She did a good job in her first prep during the Autumn, winning the first two before being thrown in the deep end in the Typhoon Tracy when far from disgraced in defeat. Jumped out well, lands in a plum spot from the gate and gets J Kah.
12 Niccolite (Bet Now: $19.00) is a filly with good talent for Grahame Begg. Eye catcher two back behind Inundation before going to the 1100m here where she was luckless in the straight and you could easily make a case to say she should have won instead of a second to Ojosan. Like her up to 1200m and should be strong late.
Race 8. (16:20) Bletchingly Stakes 1200m
7 King Of Sparta (Bet Now: $5.50) will take a power of beating here I’d suggest. He resumed in the Healy at Eagle Farm where he sat back, pulled hard in the run and had nothing left for the straight behind Juan Diva. Tempo will be hot here, he’ll do no work and be strong at the end.
10 Mariamia (Bet Now: $7.50) has the Joe Pride polish and is a mare in really good form. Chased Taksu hard in the Civic several weeks back and was good in defeat when a close up fourth to the stablemate. Given a let up and back in trip with J Kah on board, she commands respect.
4 Sartorial Splendor (Bet Now: $8.50) will get the staggers late, but he’ll look the winner for a fair distance. He attempted to lead throughout in the Monash and gave a very strong kick but got tired late. Still, he was very good in defeat when third to Mileva. He’s a must for multiples.
Race 9. (16:52) Catanach's Jewellers (Bm78) 1400m
I’m with 4 Lucky Decision (Bet Now: $5.00) in the get out. Quality three year old for Peter Moody that resumes, having not raced since the Alister Clark back in the Autumn when far from disgraced in defeat behind Prix De Turn. Given a break and with two solid jumpouts under the belt, I think he’ll take beating in the last.
11 Mayfair Spirit (Bet Now: $9.00) has a good second up record and finds a winnable race. Resumed at Caulfield over this trip when beaten five lengths by a promisng horse in He’s Our Bonneval in a good effort for a resumption. Better for the run and does get Jamie Kah to steer, so he’ll be popular.
15 Aiguilette (Bet Now: $15.00) has been in work forever it seems like but he is holding his form. Seemingly had every chance last time at Gawler when tracking the speed and being presented at the right time, but the fence was red hot and he was beaten by two horses who made their run nearer the inside lanes. He’s flying and can bounce back into the winners list.
