23/4/2022 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Ascot

A solid nine event meeting has been set down for Ascot on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

4 Miss Drakova (Bet Now: $3.70 TOP ODDS) looks the straight bat option. Neville Parnham trained filly that resumes, having not raced since her debut back in November when far from disgraced in defeat behind a handy one, Street Parade. Liked the way she has trialled leading and gets run of the race from the draw.

1 Swear To God (Bet Now: $1.70 TOP ODDS) has been pretty good in two career outings. Debuted with a dominant win over this track/distance before stepping up to 1100m a fortnight back when third to Snowdome. Back to 1000m I do like for him, he has early speed and gets in well after the claim.

7 Balayage Babe (Bet Now: $10.00 TOP ODDS) is a Grant Williams trained filly on debut and with this stable, she has to be respected. Has had a couple of trials in readiness and hasn’t moved too bad to my eye. 1000m might be on the short side for her, but this stable can get them ready for start one.

3 God Has Chosen (Bet Now: $2.25 TOP ODDS) on top in what looks a two horse race. Resumed at this track/distance two weeks ago where the market said he would need the run and that’s how it panned out. He was there to threaten 300m out but condition gave way. Better for the run under the belt, I’m willing to give him another chance.

1 Staralign (Bet Now: $2.70 TOP ODDS) looks the only other key threat. Peach front running steer from Holly Watson saw him win the race mentioned above, getting complete control in front and the mid race slow down no doubt won him the race. Creeping up in the weights, but should get control again and prove hard to run down.

6 Denim Pack (Bet Now: $11.00 TOP ODDS) is on the seven day back up after racing over 1200m here last Saturday. He was wide no cover on speed for the trip and couldn’t finish it off after the early burn behind Mood Swings. Better set up this time around and down in the weights with an economical trip, he could cause problems.

5 Kaymay (Bet Now: $3.40 TOP ODDS) can bounce back with a clean jump. She didn’t get that when racing here three weeks ago and her chances were gone soon after when down the track behind Otheroneson, who should have won last week with normal luck, so the form reads well and she finds a thin race.

3 Blow Me Out (Bet Now: $4.80 TOP ODDS) has found winning form for Brett Pope. Query being can she hold it. Blessed in the run at Pinjarra last start but she took advantage of it and was able to get the win, beating Pennys Afield, who won well on Good Friday. Maps well again and you’d like to think there is a hint of upside left.

7 Celtic Diva (Bet Now: $51.00 TOP ODDS) might need another run or two, but given the lack of depth, I think she’s in with a shout. Resumed over 1400m here on Good Friday and was okay late without threatening behind Elafella. 2000m+ is when she’ll come into her own but small field and weak line up has her in the mix.

4 Trade War (Bet Now: $2.70 TOP ODDS) is bursting to win a race and I think he gets his chance here. Connections, whilst happy they are getting cheques, must surely be frustrated with him with the run of placings and near misses, the latest a narrow second over the mile here two weeks ago. Like him up in trip and hopefully gate one is used to advantage.

3 Lonehand Larry (Bet Now: $5.00 TOP ODDS) is a query at 1800m but has upside to come compared to most engaged and CJP sticks from last start, which was a win over the mile here, beating Trade War in a close finish. Tricky draw to overcome, but the win last time from off the pace had merit and the small field should ensure a gentle tempo, which means it won’t be a hard 1800m.

8 Piccola Signora (Bet Now: $5.00 TOP ODDS) is dangerous if she can be within range. Ran over this track/distance last Saturday where she just got a mile back, run off her legs due to the strong tempo. Never a factor, but her finale was strong, as it should have been, behind Buster Bash. If she can settle closer in the run, she’ll take holding out.

7 Michelada (Bet Now: $3.80 TOP ODDS) is flying for Simon Miller and I think she can make it three on the bounce. Strong winner over 1200m here two back before coming back to this trip and she was even more dynamic in a dominant win. Gets in really well after the claim, maps super and brings a fitness edge.

2 Mercanto (Bet Now: $3.90 TOP ODDS) is a Per Incanto gelding for Team Gangemi that resumes. He hasn’t raced since December 22 when a dominant winner over 1200m here, sitting wide with cover before coming with a well timed run to draw clear. Just one soft trial leading in, but he has quality.

4 Guns Of Navarone (Bet Now: $11.00 TOP ODDS) is a greybeard for Neville Parnham that is on the seven day back up after racing over 1100m here last Saturday where he got back, wide with cover, and tried to finish it off but couldn’t quite behind Our Boy Dylan. Fast run 1000m I like and should be strong late.

4 Galactic Storm (Bet Now: $2.80 TOP ODDS) looks a promising animal for Adam Durrant. Resumed at Pinjarra over 1200m where he did plenty wrong in the run and the saddle shifted in the straight but he produced class when it mattered and was impressive. Fitter, up to 1400m, he’ll take beating.

3 Success Play (Bet Now: $3.70 TOP ODDS) has returned in pretty good order. Resumed for Neville Parnham two weeks ago over 1200m here. Had a good run behind the speed and tried hard, but couldn’t quite get there when nabbed late by My Dilemma. Maps super from the gate and the extra 200m is ideal.

8 Maximum Impact (Bet Now: $101.00 TOP ODDS) is still a maiden but has been thereabouts and could pinch a first four spot. Ran here on Good Friday in a Maiden when on speed and battled away pretty well when second to True Moon. Couldn’t back him to win, but could be there for a first four finish.

6 How’s The Serenity (Bet Now: $1.85 TOP ODDS) does seem more effective at 1000m but her track/distance record is very good. Three weeks between runs since giving them a spanking over 1000m here, getting back to her brilliant best after a somewhat disappointing third at 1200m. If she gets on speed without spending too many petrol tickets, she’s the one to beat.

4 Chantorque (Bet Now: $4.20 TOP ODDS) looks suited up to 1200m. Ran over 1000m here last Saturday where she got the suck run nearer the inside and drove hard late, just missing out on the win behind the bonny mare Express Time. 1200m should be idea for her and hopefully the gate is used to advantage.

2 Reflectivity (Bet Now: $26.00 TOP ODDS) can be an improver. Market said he had none when resuming over 1000m here and ran accordingly when failing to fire behind Express Time after doing no work in the run. He gets better as the prep goes on so an improved showing is on the cards.

The map looks ideal for 2 Snipillicious (Bet Now: $4.00 TOP ODDS). Talented four year old for Adam Durrant that is four weeks between runs since an impressive first up win here, beating up a similar quality field with something in reserve. Kept on ice for the Final, does no work from the gate, hard to beat.

8 Premium Choice (Bet Now: $3.80 TOP ODDS) deserves another chance. Luckless behind Snipillicious two back before racing two weeks ago where he did everything wrong and I’d say three the race away. Has talent, tempo should be more genuine and he’ll get his chance to launch late.

12 Lord Lonsdale (Bet Now: $9.00 TOP ODDS) has returned well. Just whether he wants further is the query. Resumption came three weeks back over 1100m and he closed off with real purpose late when second to Lord Lonsdale. If he’s within range on the turn, he can threaten against this lot.

I want to give 11 Sniparoochy (Bet Now: $3.60 TOP ODDS) another chance. Real eye catcher first up behind Metallon before going to the 1100m here again where they rode her a tad warm and I just don’t think she finished her race off. I reckon with a cold steer, she’ll be more effective. Hopefully that eventuates here.

9 Harmika (Bet Now: $3.10 TOP ODDS) gets another look for me. Ran over this track/distance two weeks ago and she was pretty plain after leading when down the track behind My Dilemma. She is best with cover, so from the gate, I think that eventuates here, and her prior form was strong.

5 Dance Cockey (Bet Now: $101.00 TOP ODDS) is better suited at the Provincials but he has a good second up record and I thought he had excuses last time out when resuming at this track/distance when wide no cover on speed and tired late. Maybe wait til he gets back home to Geraldton, but I could see him sneaking a first four spot.

LONG SHOT: Race One Number 4 Miss Drakova
