Race 1. (11:40) Midway (Bm72) 1200m
14 Be Quiet (Bet Now:Β $31.00) should be suited up to 1200m. Got too far out of her ground behind Melanite two weeks back but really liked the way she finished her race off in defeat. If within range, she has the finale to be dangerous.
7 Zulfiqar (Bet Now:Β $27.00) is a Richard Littt trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since March 4 when down the track on shifty ground at Warwick Farm behind Conchiero. He is a good fresh horse and looks to have trialled well for the return.
10 Agita (Bet Now:Β $51.00) is first up for David Payne and is in the mix. His last run was April 22 when down the track over 1900m at Canterbury, getting off speed and whacked late. No trials, but can sprint well fresh so watch betting.
Race 2. (12:15) Kosciuszko Tickets At Tab Highway Hcp (C2) 1100m
1 Tom Vegas (Bet Now:Β $10.00) is here to play I feel. Dean Mirfin trained gelding that resumes, with his last run coming in the Country Championships Final when down the track. Looks to have trialled super and maps to get good cover. Like him each way.
10 Magic Speed (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) was big odds when resuming in the Highway a fortnight back, but she defied that SP, working home with real purpose from off speed when third to Ready To Rush. Fitter and up in trip, back to Class 2, she appeals for sure.
14 Kakoda (Bet Now:Β $14.00) ran in the Highway several weeks back at Rosehill and was very good in defeat, closing well from near last behind Sneaky Pee Cee. Back on firmer footing, she’ll likely spot them a start but be strong late.
Race 3. (12:50) Jersey Day Andrew Wisemantel (Bm78) 2400m
These staying races see them take their turn and they are nothing races. With that in mind, I am more than happy to back 16 Autafinna (Bet Now:Β $101.00) each way. He should have won at Gosford last start but had zero luck at a vital stage and it ended up being a horror show. He’ll love getting down in the weights, bigger track…and these 2400m races in recent weeks, they have been very low rating, so I think a maiden can certainly measure up.
3 Le Troisir (Bet Now:Β $2.35) is racing well for Chris Waller. He ran second to I Park two weeks ago here, trying hard from off speed but found the Kiwi a touch too strong in the run to the line. Hard fit, racing well…he gets a great chance to get his turn.
9 Forbidden Riff (Bet Now:Β $21.00) steps up to 2400m after racing over 1900m at the midweeks at Canterbury, trying hard from just off speed but had to settle for a second. 2400m is a query but maps to do no work in the run.
Race 4. (13:25) Drinkwise (Bm78) 1600m
2 The Creator (Bet Now:Β $7.00) is racing really well at present for Price/Kent. He ran fourth to The Mona Lisa two weeks ago, finishing his race off strongly from off speed when beaten a couple of lengths. Racing well, knocking on the door, he appeals.
1 King Of The Sea (Bet Now:Β $1.85) is a very interesting horse. I think he could be a sleeper for Ciaron Maher for staying races later in the Spring. He resumes after a solid Winter prep where he showed good talent but at times, was given none by the rider. J Mac booked fresh signals intent, so watch betting.
3 Montpellier (Bet Now:Β $9.50) is third up from a break and should be at peak fitness. He ran several weeks back at Eagle Farm when off speed and just whacked in the run to the line. Hit and miss but his best is clearly good enough.
Race 5. (14:00) Premier's Cup (G3) 2000m
2 Thebudgiesmugla (Bet Now:Β $5.50) is a beauty for Bjorn Baker and with residual fitness, I think he’s a clear top seed. He hasn’t raced since taking out the Caloundra Cup where he found under pressure and was strong to the line. Tick over trial was pretty good and despite coming back to 2000m, he appeals big time.
9 So You Are (Bet Now:Β $3.70) is capable. He was stiff in the Grafton Cup, given a 0/10 by Looker after getting into a plum spot early. Back to 2000m should be fine, he’ll be strong late, residual fitness…he can win.
10 Elliptical (Bet Now:Β $10.00) is racing very well for Chris Waller. He ran two weeks back in the Prelude where he got back off speed and was held up at times. He was good late when clear behind Eliyass. Not sure he wins but can run first four.
Race 6. (14:35) Toy Show Qlty (G3) 1100m
5 Catch The Glory (Bet Now:Β $18.00) is a talented mare for Jason Coyle that is first up. This girl last raced in the Ortensia at Scone when back near last in the run and worked home with real purpose late in the piece. Likely will spot them a start but if she can get a drag into the race, she’ll launch late.
1 Savvy Hallie (Bet Now:Β $3.10) is a beauty for Brad Widdup that resumes. She was fabulous in the Autumn, highlighted by her win in the Light Fingers and a narrow second in the Surround. Looks to have trialled super and will be out of trouble on speed.
8 Stardom (Bet Now:Β $15.00) appeals for GaiBott. She was last seen during the Brisbane Carnival when fourth in the Darby McCarthy. Two strong trials under the belt signals clear intent for a Stakes win first up so watch betting.
Race 7. (15:15) Silver Shadow Stakes (G2) 1200m
1 Cherry Bomshell (Bet Now:Β $3.90) is a beauty for Team Archibald. She resumes, ending the Autumn with an impressive win in the Percy Sykes. Not sure what she is, whether she is a 1200m sprinter or can she stretch her brilliance to the mile. Whatever the case, I think she’s here to play and is top seed.
4 By Choice (Bet Now:Β $15.00) takes beating for GaiBott. She last raced in the Magic Night, trying to get into the Slipper, but was no match for Pembrey. Trial work has been sharp and looks to have been given a good grounding for her return.
11 Screen Icon (Bet Now:Β $12.00) is a John Thompson trained filly that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since the Percy Sykes when down the track, producing an end of prep run behind Cherry Bomshell. Looks to have trialled well for the return, watch betting.
Race 8. (15:50) Show County Qlty (G3) 1200m
7 Matcha Latte (Bet Now:Β $7.50) is first up for Nacim Dilmi and is dangerous. He is better suited over slightly further I feel but his recent trial was a sharp piece of work and on paper, I think he sets up really well to run a bold race fresh.
3 Enriched (Bet Now:Β $4.80) is first up for Michael Freedman, having not raced since The Goodwood when down the track after sitting just off speed. Two strong trials under the belt, goes well fresh, his best is good enough to win.
2 Disneck (Bet Now:Β $12.00) is a handy galloper for Bjorn Baker that resumes. I think he’d love this track to dry out but he does have a sharp turn of foot on him when right and his trial work has been encouraging so watch the market.
Race 9. (16:30) Winx Stakes (G1) 1400m
Hard to get away from 8 Autumn Glow (Bet Now:Β $1.75). She was stunning in the Autumn, and many have been quick to somewhat dismiss her after the QEll. That was her first look at 2000m, and it was brutally run. She got beaten but was just as good in defeat as she was in winning beforehand IMO. Trials have been super, she is elite fresh…good luck beating her. Get back on the Baby Winx train.
Keen to see 9 Aeliana (Bet Now:Β $14.00) resume with an eye towards the Cox Plate. She is a star mare in her own right and loved the way she moved in a recent trial…just needs luck from the gate and I think she’ll run very well.
2 Gringotts (Bet Now:Β $23.00) is one runner here that is here to play I feel. He resumes for Ciaron Maher and is a pretty solid 1400m/1600m horse and his trial work indicates he’s quite forward for his return. Must for exotics.
Race 10. (17:05) Tajima Wagyu (Bm78) 1200m
1 Columbia Blue (Bet Now:Β $3.90) is a nice horse for Joe Pride. He is Stakes class IMO but mentally, he’s not there. That said, I thought Hippo didn’t give him the best of steers here last start when back and held up before getting clear and charging late. Nash back on, he takes beating.
7 Call Me Gorgeous (Bet Now:Β $5.50) should take beating up to 1200m after resuming over 1000m two weeks ago here, getting a fair way out of his ground but was good late. Fitter and up in trip, can settle closer, he takes holding out.
2 Sovereign Hill (Bet Now:Β $13.00) is three weeks between runs since resuming at Rosehill when on speed and tried hard but felt the pinch late behind Annie’s Rose. Better for the run, good racing style, he’s an improver at odds.
