Nine races will be run and won at Doomben on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (11:33) Tab Long May We Play Hcp 1600m
2 Belissimi Amici (Bet Now: $5.00) should love the rise to the mile for Rob Heathcoate. Was on her two weeks ago over 1350m here and I think she should have fought the finish out. Adin Thompson went for a narrow inside split but the gap closed and the filly lost all momentum and winning hope. Think she’s going well this girl and can win with better luck.
3 Eelloh (Bet Now: $2.20) is a Desleigh Forster trained filly that was heavily backed when racing over 1350m here a fortnight back with the small field and stepping up in trip suiting her ideally and she finished over the top for an impressive win. Off that, 1600m here should be fine and she’s got more to come given she’s only third up here.
6 Calm Seeker (Bet Now: $8.50) is an interesting runner. Matty Kropp trained youngster that was a drifter in betting when debuting at Ipswich but gee you had like to his finale when building the revs and producing an excellent burst late to score an impressive debut win. Comes straight to Saturday grade, but I think he can measure up.
Race 2. (12:08) Souths Sports Club (bm90) 2000m
5 Bargannon (Bet Now: $5.00) has been racing as if he wants 2000m and now he gets it, so I’m going his way. Last couple of runs have come at the mile, two back finishing a close up fourth in the Rockhampton Cup before racing over the mile here two weeks ago and finding the line nicely. If Maloney can use gate one to advantage, he’ll take some beating.
I like that 3 Mushaireb (Bet Now: $4.00) is on the seven day back up for the Freedman camp. Attempted to lead throughout over the mile at Eagle Farm last Saturday and Wiggins rode him a treat…but that Eagle Farm straight is a long one and he was grabbed late by Momentum To Win. Like him on the back up, up in trip, lands in front…hard to beat.
4 Romakash (Bet Now: $14.00) is a Matty Kropp trained stayer who is knocking on the door to win one again after putting together a couple of wins at the Gold Coast in May. Comes through the Sir Barnabus race from three weeks back at Eagle Farm and while he had his chance, he closed off alright to run third. He’ll be around the mark again.
Race 3. (12:43) Brc Membership Renewal (c3) 1200m
If 7 Chauffeur (Bet Now: $5.00) produces anything near his best, he wins this. Quality galloper who has had a few homes throughout his career, but now finds himself under the care of David Vandyke. No public trials for him under Vandyke, so fitness levels are unknown, but he’s rated 86 (next best is 72.5) yet is only 1.5kg over the minimum. Perfectly placed.
1 Astro Toy Boy (Bet Now: $3.40) has a touch of quality about him for Team Edmonds and his confidence should be high after winning first up over 1200m. Didn’t look like he would get there, but the last 50-75m, he really attacked the line and got up to win. Proven Saturday class performer and looks to find, overall, not a strong Class 3.
14 Rising Star (Bet Now: $17.00) is a Gillian Heinrich trained four year old that was well backed when resuming on his home track at the Gold Coast in a maiden where he settled just off the speed before Wilson-Taylor found clear air and the son of Deep Field finished off strongly t get the job done. Harder here, but he looks a likely type.
Race 4. (13:18) Mount Franklin Plate (c6) 1350m
10 Voila (Bet Now: $3.40) on top. The Chris Waller stable in QLD is humming at the moment and this mare was one of the first to kick off that purple patch when surging hard late to win at the midweeks at the Sunny Coast. Proven Saturday class performer…1350m is as far as she wants it I think, but overall, not a strong Class 6.
3 Snowzone (Bet Now: $5.00) is a son of Snitzel for Kris Lees who tends to save his best for Doomben. Appreciated a fast speed when winning here two back before stepping up to 1350m a fortnight back and seemed to have his chance, but was far from disgraced in defeat behind Roman Aureus. He’s going well and is hard to beat.
Interesting placement from Team Snowden when it comes to 11 Napoleon Solo (Bet Now: $17.00). I assume they have sent him this way to find firmer footing, and that’s what he will get compared to what is on the cards in Sydney. Resumed at Canterbury where he had no chance given the way that track has played recently and ran accordingly behind Emeralds. Might need one more, but has the class/quality to beat these if he’s right.
Race 5. (13:57) Xxxx Dry (bm78) 1600m
5 Fastnet Cyclone (Bet Now: $4.60) is eight years of age but not sure he could be going any better. Seems to be loving life at the Sunshine Coast under the care of Stuart Kendrick and should prove very hard to beat. Ran over this track/distance two weeks back where like usual, he hit a flat spot, but picked up and surged hard late to just miss. Loves Doomben and can bounce back into the winners list.
10 Fairy Me Home (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Chris Waller trained galloper that was somewhat of a surprising drifter in betting when winning at this track/distance two weeks ago given the form around him had read well and he was going to be strong late at the end of 1600m, which is exactly what he was in a close finish. Stable in QLD is going super and he can win again.
Think a leading chance here is 6 Reiby The Red (Bet Now: $15.00) for Lindsay Gough. Ran over the mile at Eagle Farm three weeks back and I thought he was good in defeat from off the speed behind Prometheus, looking like a horse that wants a bit further, but third up from a break, should just about be at peak fitness, and his best is good enough.
Race 6. (14:37) Ascot Green Plate (c3) 1200m
Think Tony Gollan finds a lovely kick off point for his mare 9 Ingear (Bet Now: $2.80). Four year old who hasn’t raced since the Summer/Autumn when putting together some very consistent performances, including a spank job of her rivals in an identical race to this at Eagle Farm. Trial win was sharp and should prove very hard to beat.
7 Amiche (Bet Now: $3.30) is a David Vandyke trained mare that has been somewhat of a punters pal, winning a couple on the bounce in really impressive fashion, but that changed at Eagle Farm last time out when on speed and looked to travel well, but couldn’t shake them off and was nutted near the peg. Tick over trial was good and like the booking of Maloney.
Up to 1200m I do like for 3 Lady Appleton (Bet Now: $14.00). Barry Baldwin trained mare that produced a brilliant finale to win two back at Ballina before going to the 1110m here two weeks ago where she closed off strongly late from the inside gate when third to Say Haya. Off that effort, 1200m here should be fine and is hard to beat.
Race 7. (15:17) Tab Long May We Play (78) 1050m
13 Say Haya (Bet Now: $2.90) is a short course horse so the 1050m here I do like for her. Just found the 1200m a bridge too far two back behind Snowzone before stepping back to 1110m a fortnight back and aided by a lovely ride from Maloney, surged hard late to nab The Great Boombino on the peg. Hard fit, racing well, hard to beat.
The best version of 14 Moonshine Lady (Bet Now: $11.00) is certainly capable. Forget she went around fresh at the Sunny Coast given she reared at the start, which cost her any chance given she’s a mare who looks to run along in front. Provided she jumps clean, gets a great chance to do that here, and with only 52.5kg on her back, she’ll run a race at odds.
15 Princess Cordelia (Bet Now: $17.00) has the engine under the hood to be more than competitive here. Daughter of Bel Esprit for Mitch Beer that resumes, having not raced since winning a Highway at Randwick in impressive fashion under a lovely steer from Brenton Avdulla. Has residual fitness and strikes a winnable Saturday metro race.
Race 8. (15:57) Quincy Hcp 1110m
Provided there is no second up syndrome, 3 Mr Marbellouz (Bet Now: $4.60) will take a power of beating here. Kevin Kemp trained gelding who was first up in nearly 14 months when racing over 1050m here two weeks ago when supported, which was a good lead considering he hadn’t trialled publicly. Led and gave a really good kick, but his condition just gave out. If he improves off that, very much hard to beat.
1 Just Orm (Bet Now: $5.50) is a son of Falveon for Tony Gollan that was completely unwanted in betting when racing over 1050m here a fortnight back but despite the lack of friends in the market, he surged hard late, hit the front and was able to cling and fend off Niccnova in a close finish. He seems to save his best for 1000m, so 1110m a little query, but he’s a last start winner.
Keen to see how 5 Hanger (Bet Now: $9.50) goes. Mitch Beer trained gelding that resumes for a Queensland prep and you go through his form, yes he’s better suited over a bit further, but he has a touch of quality about him when right. Can sprint well fresh and looks on track if his Wagga trial win is any guide. Knockout chance for sure.
Race 9. (16:33) Gallopers Sports Club Hcp (75) 1350m
Looks a lovely race for the Michael Costa trained 10 Getyourgreyon (Bet Now: $3.60). Very good here fresh when second to Snowzone before going to the Gold Coast where he took on three rivals and although he was in a bit of trouble early on in the straight, his class came to the fore and was much too good. Eats up 1350m and is the one to beat, clearly.
Good little test here for 3 Run For Glory (Bet Now: $3.00) but Rob Heathcoate has him going super and deserves a chance at Saturday grade. His last two runs have come at the Sunny Coast, winning each time and what I have liked is the ticker he has shown because each time he has had to knuckle down to win and he has done so successfully. Think he can measure up, especially from the gate.
4 Shijin (Bet Now: $20.00) could give a sight at a price. Scott Morrisey trained mare that attempted to lead throughout over 1350m here two weeks ago and gave a reasonable kick, but couldn’t quite see it through when fourth to the in form Roman Aureus. Has the speed to overcome the wide gate and run a bold race at odds.
