Race 1. (11:33) Xxxx Dry Hcp 1200m
All you can do is win and that is what 4 Oceans Of Energy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has done in two career outings. Debuted with an electric win at Grafton before racing three weeks ago here where she got the dream sit behind the speed before Mallyon angled her into clear air and she finished best for another impressive win. Only has to hold her form to be around the mark once again.
2 Russian Alliance (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has done little wrong in a four start career and commands respect. She is 3/3 this time in, the latest being over 1000m on the home deck at Toowoomba where she probably found them a bit sharp but class came to the fore and she was too good. The win prior was at 1100m and she was dominant. Off that, 1200m is fine and is one of the leading chances.
1 Shamedy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has been a busy juvenile but he’s a tough customer that will give a sight near the front. He is over a month between runs since a dominant all the way win over this trip at Rockhampton where he produced sustained speed to the fore and gave nothing else a look in. Harder here, but with his racing style, he’ll give a sight I am sure.
Race 2. (12:08) Sky Racing (Bm78) 2200m
Firmer footing and back in depth, I think 3 Iowa (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) can take this out for the very much in form Mark Newnham camp. I was quite keen on him when racing at Warwick Farm last time but he struggled to pick his feet up on the wet ground, finishing down the track behind Deniliquin. He is clearly a much better dry track horse, so he gets conditions to suit, and the depth here is on the thin side.
13 Gambu (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. Chris Waller trained gelding that ran over 2040m here two weeks ago where he tried to make a sustained run from the back but being second up, he couldn’t finish it off and tired late to finish down the track behind Stuck With You. Like him up in trip and with a more conservative steer, he’ll be dangerous I am sure.
2 Tappy’s Lad (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) can certainly take this out. He had a two run Sydney prep and didn’t measure up at all, but understandably so given he contested the Tancred at Group l level and then the Chairmans. This is clearly more his level and provided there is petrol left in the tank, he is good enough to win, and you’re getting a decent price.
Race 3. (12:43) Bjorn Again 2 June Plate (C6) 1615m
1 Rousseau (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) could be a moral. Chris Waller trained gelding that I think is absolutely flying. Trialled up enormous prior to the resumption at the 1350m here two weeks ago where he got a mile out of his ground from the wide gate but loved the way he found the line late when fourth, beaten two lengths. Is a second up winner and love that he gets to the mile. More positive ride here, he’ll take a power of beating.
5 Alburq (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has returned in super order and is one of the hardest to beat. Market kept him quite safe in betting when resuming over 1350m here two weeks ago. He was given a lovely ride by Thornton and was there to threaten, but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second to Mississippi Prince. Great second up record, he’s become very genuine since joining Brian Smith and is the one to beat.
Fitter and up in trip, have to respect 10 Without Revenge (Bet Now:Β $SP.00). David Vandyke trained gelding that resumed over 1350m two weeks back here. The market did suggest he might need the run and that’s how it panned out, but didn’t mind the way he found the line late without threatening behind Mississippi Prince. He has a good record at the trip and with upside to come, he rates highly.
Race 4. (13:18) Stradbroke Season (Bm72) 1200m
11 South Parade (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a fascinating runner. Formerly with John Sadler, he now finds himself with Mark Currie. He has been an enigma right throughout his career but no doubting that when he is right, he is Saturday class. Hasn’t raced in a month and back to 1200m, he will likely be spotting them a start but will be strong late if he’s ready to go. Watch the market.
2 Canadian Dancer (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) commands respect for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp. This mare resumes, having not raced since New Years Eve over the Randwick mile in a pretty strong 78 when third to Banju, who of course went on to be Stakes placed, so the form reads really well. Moved well in a trial on Tuesday, she can sprint well fresh and is the class of the field.
10 Beaux Rumble (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win. Gillian Heinrich trains this son of Maurice, who ran second to Birriecart two weeks back here. He sat outside the speed throughout and was there to put the race to bed but couldn’t quite finish it off and was nabbed late by the O’Dea/Hoysted horse. Only has to hold his form to take beating here.
Race 5. (13:53) Mekka Fest 19 August (Bm90) 1110m
10 Fifteen Rounds (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a ripper for Barry Lockwood that resumes. He ended his Spring/Summer prep on a high, winning three on the bounce, the latest being at this track/distance on January 21. Not a noted fresh horse but loves racing at Doomben and his trial here last week was a lovely piece of work. Good speed in front, he’ll sit back and launch at them late.
15 Shamrock Lu (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) can be an improver up in trip for Tony Gollan. He resumed over 1050m here several weeks back where he did a bit of early work from the wide gate and that burn just told late in the piece behind Situation Room, beaten just over two lengths. His recent trial effort was a good piece of work and his best is good enough, so don’t dismiss him.
3 Doctor Zous (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Darryl Hansen trained gelding that resumes. This guy has been around the black in Queensland and for the most part has done a really good job. His last run came in during the Summer Carnival when close up in the Falvelon behind King Of Sparta, who went on to win on Magic Millions Day and was Group l performed soon after. Loved the way he went in a Sunny Coast trial win and can sprint well fresh.
Race 6. (14:32) Gallopers Sports Club (Bm90) 1350m
20 Argyle Pink (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a consistent animal for Tony Gollan that should be around the mark. Market wanted her three weeks ago over 1350m here where she got control in front under Angela Jones and that control allowed her to see out the 1350m and in a driving finish, she was able to hang on. Like her down in the weights, she’ll land on speed and prove hard to run down.
19 Rathlin (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) hasn’t won in forever but he is usually around the mark in races like this. He ran a few weeks back at Doomben where he got a fair way back in the run and made up some level of headway without really threatening behind Dune Forty Five. He is a very hard horse to follow with confidence but he appeals as a contender in a race like this.
4 Legal Esprit (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a very genuine animal for Donald Baker that has the 1350m run under the belt, which should hold him in good stead. That run was two weeks back here where got into a lovely spot behind the speed and was there to threaten in the straight but couldn’t quite finish it off when fourth to Irish Songs. Not sure I could back him to win but a must for exotics.
Race 7. (15:12) Princess Stakes 1615m
I was keen on the locals all in but they have drawn terribly here and the Sydney fillies have map advantages, including 11 Street Gossip (Bet Now:Β $SP.00), who won at the trip at Wyong last time where she wasn’t quite 100% happy around the tight track but once she balanced up in the straight, class came to the fore and she was much too good. Bred to eat up a truly run mile and the Mark Newnham stable is flying. She’ll do me.
5 Madame Odette (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has to be given another chance. Tony Gollan trained filly that was met with good market support several weeks back when resuming over 1400m at Eagle Farm. Unfortunately, she got a mile out of her ground and just couldn’t get involved, only warming to the task late in the piece behind Our Magnus. Fitter and up in trip, she has the runs on the board to give this a shake.
2 Tyresa (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a filly who I think can measure up in the QLD Oaks. Kelly Schweida trains this filly, who ran over 1350m here a fortnight back off a break and while she was never a threat, I didn’t mind the way she found the line late in the piece behind Mississippi Prince. Love that she gets up in trip and back to her own age/sex, she is one of the leading contenders.
Race 8. (15:48) Tails Stakes 1615m
3 Cepheus (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate the significant drop in grade/depth after contesting The Doncaster Mile where he found them a bit too sharp in the testing conditions, finishing down the track behind Mr Brightside. Dominant win in the Ajax the start prior and that form is certainly good enough to take this race out, so I think he is the way to go.
14 Dune Forty Five (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is flying under the care of Rob Heathcoate and it’s hard to get away from him. Both wins have come at Doomben, the latest being three weeks ago over the mile where he was the only horse in the run you wanted to be on. Just a matter of getting clear air and once he got it, he dashed and gapped his rivals. Can only see further improvement with fitness and a more genuine tempo. Hard to beat.
Fitter and up to the mile are two big ticks for 6 London Banker (Bet Now:Β $SP.00). Kelly Schweida trained gelding that resumed over 1350m here two weeks back where he paraded like he would need the run and that’s how it panned out but I thought he was far from disgraced in defeat behind Irish Songs, who is flying this prep. Might want one more, but has a good second up record and will be strong at the end.
Race 9. (16:28) Mick Dittman Plate 1110m
8 Lady Laguna (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks beautifully placed in a race like this. Her last three runs have come over 1200m, the latest in the Arrowfield Sprint two weeks ago where she tried her guts out from off the speed but was no match late for a potential star, Aft Cabin. Like her back to 1110m, she’ll sit off the fast speed and with a class factor, I think she’s a near good thing.
10 Chinny Boom (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) deserves a crack at this kind of race. Very sharp filly for Clinton Taylor that resumed over 1050m here two weeks ago and would have an absolute moral beaten had he not got clear air but thankfully she did and launched late between runners for a big win. Races best when she can land on speed and I think with race fitness on her side, that is her best chance of winning.
2 Spiritualised (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a quality sprinter for Tony Gollan that resumes. He had a pretty solid Summer prep, which ended in the Magic Millions Guineas when far from disgraced in defeat behind Fashion Legend. I reckon 1400m is a bridge too far for him so like him back at the sprint trip and gee he trucked in front when winning his trial here last week. He’ll take a power of beating.
