22/12/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Sandown

Sandown Hillside will play host to an eight race card on Wednesday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out eight metres for the entire circuit.

14 Tempest Charm (Bet Now: $1.95) is the knocking on the door to win her maiden for the Griffiths/De Kock camp. Ran over 1300m here a fortnight back and if you backed her, how she didn’t win I do not know. Even watching the replay, you swore she won. But, the photo went the other way. Hard to beat, but she has had a few chances.

5 Moktaffy (Bet Now: $4.20) is the knocking on the door to win her maiden for the Griffiths/De Kock camp. Ran over 1300m here a fortnight back and if you backed her, how she didn’t win I do not know. 1 Heljinsky (Bet Now: $15.00) is in with a shout if he gets luck from the wide gate. Forgive the last start effort at The Valley when wide and trying to make a sustained run but the effort just told late. Run prior at Ballarat was sound and off that effort, I think he’s a first four threat here.

Staying at 1300m is the knock with 10 Newley Wed (Bet Now: $3.60) but the stable/jock combo is flying and she’s got more upside than most. Debuted at this track/distance where she just took a little while to wind into her work but was good late when fourth to Perceptive. If this was 1600m, she’d be a good thing. But staying at 1300m, she’s on top but not entirely confident.

2 Pagan (Bet Now: $3.50) looks to have some talent for Team Hayes. Market didn’t want a bar of him when he debuted at Pakenham. Sat wide no cover for the trip and boxed on really well when second. Liked his tick over trial last week at Traralgon. Tricky draw again, but he has to be respected.

9 Midivani (Bet Now: $17.00) has upside to come and I think has ability. Debuted on Werribee Cup Day and while she was never really a winning threat, her finale was more than sound when fourth. Should get a suck run from the inside gate…doubt she wins, but is one for multiples.

2 Can’t Go Wong (Bet Now: $3.40) for me. Maher/Eustace trained four year old that was backed at odds with confidence when debuting over 1400m when sitting wide with cover before blending into the race with clear air and he produced good change up speed to win and win well. Up to the mile no issue and in the right camp to keep winning.

3 Soarhi (Bet Now: $2.40) is a Team Hawkes three year old that is racing well. Had a great struggle with Stay Gold at The Valley last time out and really, the only thing that beat him was the bob of the head. Small field helps his cause and stable/jock combo is in really good touch.

5 Carlisle (Bet Now: $23.00) lacks the class of some of these, but he’ll put himself on speed and try hard, which was the case when breaking the maiden tag last time out on Werribee Cup Day. The form around him this prep doesn’t read too bad. Not sure he wins, but a first four contender.

4 Rising (Bet Now: $3.20) looks the best on the card. Maher/Eustace trained colt that was helped by the track pattern on debut at Stawell, but even allowing for that, gee he was impressive from the front and won with arrogance, winning by a space and running faster time than the other 1300m race on the same day. He’s heading in the right direction and confident he wins again.

3 Corona Lad (Bet Now: $9.00) is a Nathan Dunn trained colt that is 1/1 to start his career, his debut resulting in a sharp display from off the speed at Hamilton, running good time as well. Has a tricky draw to overcome, but if they overdo it in front, look for him to blouse them late.

10 Gorgonado (Bet Now: $14.00) is the interesting runner. Lightly raced mare for Cindy Alderson who resumed in a Mornington maiden. Sat back in the field before getting a drag up into the race, peeling into clear air and her change up speed was electric, putting the race to bed in a few strides. Off that, she commands some level of respect here.

3 Tigertiger (Bet Now: $2.50) is the straight bat option. Rob Blacker trained gelding who is racing so well this time in. Gave them a spanking at this track/distance two weeks ago. Had the A1 run in transit behind the speed and really, it was just a matter of Higgins pushing the button and once he did, away he went. In well after the claim, it all points to him winning.

6 Annunciate (Bet Now: $7.50) hasn’t really run a bad race this time in, placing in all three runs. Latest of those three runs came behind Tigertiger in that race mentioned above where he was near the speed throughout and battled on okay when third. On weights, he can’t turn the tables, but Ben Allen sticks whereas Tigertiger gets a 3kg apprentice.

2400m I find interesting with 9 Deserved (Bet Now: $7.50). Ben Brisbourne trained mare that ran over 2040m at the Valley last time out and was close up in defeat in a solid effort behind Maid Of Iron. The run didn’t scream out of a horse wanting 2400m, but lightly raced with upside and loves a firm deck.

1 Tycoon Bec (Bet Now: $4.00) deserves another chance. Matt Cumani trained mare that was kept quite safe in betting when racing at Pakenham a few weeks ago. She just went too keen on speed and was left a sitting shot late in the piece behind Lyrical Lad, who looks above average. If that hasn’t busted her, she can take this out.

7 French Moon (Bet Now: $4.60) deserves another chance. Market loved her big time last start at Geelong and in the run, she was absolutely trucking, but as soon as the button was pushed, she found nothing and was terrible. She’s better than that and good lead that Johnny Allen sticks.

10 Wheal Rose (Bet Now: $14.00) looks the most progressive of this lot. The query with her is that whether or not she’s ready for a race like this because even though she is a last start winner, she was first up and with respect, it was an ordinary 1600m maiden. Does need to improve big time, but in the right camp to do so.

14 Kanzai (Bet Now: $8.00) on top. Nigel Blackiston trained mare that resumed over 1300m here two weeks ago. Dragged back to near last in the run but really liked the way she finished her race off. Like her up to 1500m and if she can sit closer in the run, I think she only runs well here.

2 Adandiman (Bet Now: $5.00) is the map horse. Led throughout and was too strong for them two back before a close up third here a fortnight back behind Mister Yu Shu, a proven Saturday metro performer, so the form reads well and he maps to get the A1 run in transit.

6 One Man Band (Bet Now: $20.00) has done a super job since joining Darryl Blackshaw. There was merit in his effort over 1500m at The Valley last time. Did a stack of work to find the front early and gave a good kick but just felt the pinch late behind Stay Gold. Should lead this field up and give cheek.

15 Ocean’s Jen (Bet Now: $5.00) for me in the get out. Maher/Eustace trained mare that resumes, having not raced since June 16 when close up on the Lakeside track here in what has turned out to be a strong form reference. Looked sharp in a recent Stawell jumpout and gets run of the race from the draw.

4 Nicolini Vito (Bet Now: $7.50) is racing well for Team Hayes. Nolen rode a 12/10 race on the horse at The Valley last time where he looked the winner on the turn but had no answers late for Savannah Cloud, who ran well on the weekend at Flemington. Maps well again and is knocking on the door.

14 Sweet Sixteen (Bet Now: $11.00) should be suited back to 1300m for Team Snowden. Ran over 1400m at Pakenham last time out and for mine, the seven furlongs at that level found her out, especially given how strong the tempo was. Back to this distance, her best is good enough to be dangerous.

NEXT BEST: Race One Number 9 Only Human

LONG SHOT: Race Seven Number 14 Kanzai
