A bumper ten event program has been set down for Caulfield this Saturday for William Reid Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:05) Ladbrokes Odds Surge (Bm78) 1200m
I think 6 Ka Ying Cheer (Bet Now: $SP.00) can measure up here. 2/2 this time in, the latest coming at Seymour just over four weeks ago when giving them a start and a beating in an impressive display. Tick over jumpout was good and sitting off a fast speed, he should be strong late.
1 Immortal Star (Bet Now: $SP.00) is five weeks between runs since placing in the VOBIS Prelude down the straight at Flemington when near the speed and fought hard but had no answers late for Perilous Fighter. Looks to land on speed here and gets in well after the claim.
3 Dancing Storm (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes through the SA Magic Millions two weeks back at Murray Bridge. He got back to near last in the run and while he was never threatening, I liked the way he finished off in defeat. Maps to settle much closer and be effective late.
Race 2. (12:35) Ascend Sales Trophies (Bm78) 2400m
4 Bluestone (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very consistent galloper who never puts in a bad run. Two starts ago he won really well at Caulfield and this doesn’t look any tougher. Did a few things wrong at Sandown last start and if he can settle better and find some open air in the straight which he should in the small field he should go very close.
1 Flamin Romans (Bet Now: $SP.00) was kept relatively safe in betting last start in the Torney Night Cup and he did try quite hard but seemingly had his chance and had no answers for the sustained finale from Bright Legend. He’s found positive form again, he can maintain it.
5 Cable Dancer (Bet Now: $SP.00) steps up to 2400m after racing over 2100m in the Stony Creek last start where he got back in the run and made up some ground but was never really a threat. Has good upside to come and is proven at this level so I wouldn’t dismiss.
Race 3. (13:10) Valley Pearl 1200m
Hard to get away from 1 Rich On Bubbles (Bet Now: $SP.00). Really liked the way she knuckled down to win first up at Pakenham before proving that was no fluke with a dominant display in the SA 2YO Magic Millions. 1200m should be fine, she’s hard to beat.
3 Fawlty Towers (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate getting to 1200m after debuting over 1000m at Muswellbrook when back off speed and was under pressure early but ran through the pain barrier and kept chasing in a really good effort. Like her up in trip, she appeals.
4 Blue And Gold (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Cindy Alderson trained juvenile that debuts. He has had a couple of jumpouts to get ready for start one and for the most part, hasn’t looked too bad. I’d say watch betting and see what it does.
Race 4. (13:45) Alexandra Stakes 1600m
2 Getta Good Feeling (Bet Now: $SP.00) was a big first up winner of the Inglis Sprint, giving them a start and a beating and really knuckled down with purpose late to finish best and win. She’s got enormous upside to come, has class and will be strong late.
Great to see 1 Strictly Business (Bet Now: $SP.00) back at the races. VRC Oaks winner makes her return, I dare say with eyes on Adelaide. Her Spring had to be seen to be believed with how good she was. 1600m is on the short side but is the class factor.
7 Just Kick (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Team Browne trained mare that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since Ethereal when down the track behind Spicy Lu. Looks to have jumped out well enough for the return, watch betting and see what it does.
Race 5. (14:20) Manhari (Bm96) 1200m
I am convinced that 4 King Zephyr (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Stradbroke horse so very keen to see how he resumes. He last raced Oct 11 when second in the Weekend Hussler over 1400m here to Zou Sensation. He has looked very strong in jumpout work and class will carry him a long way.
8 Verdoux (Bet Now: $SP.00) is flying for the Corstens/Larkin camp. He is 2/2, the latest being down the straight at Flemington two weeks ago where he found plenty under pressure to fend them off and get the job done. 1200m should be fine, he’s one of the hardest to beat.
9 Red Galaxy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Greg Eurell trained gelding that resumes. He last raced on Jan 17 at Flemington over 1200m when off speed and held up at times but overall, had his chance. Looks to have jumped out well, I’d watch betting and see what it does.
Race 6. (14:55) Don Casboult Classic 1200m
1 Ferivia (Bet Now: $SP.00) would be my early pick for the Sangster. I think she’s a rocket for Phillip Stokes and I think has come back in beast mode. Just one trial under the belt for the return, but it was behind Tom Kitten and she was absolutely jogging in behind. Weighted right up to her best but I think she is the best of these.
12 Bassett Babe… (Bet Now: $SP.00) what a fascinating runner she is. 2/2 to start her career for Andrew Gluyas, the latest being over 1250m at Morphettville Parks when leading throughout and ran really good time in winning. Tick over jumpout win last week at Flemington was sharp, I am confident she can measure up.
9 Expulsion (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks well suited in this with the small field where she should get a good sit in the running and if they get a few slow splits early I think she can sprint the fastest and be hard to run down after getting the run of the race from the barrier.
Race 7. (15:30) Sunline Stakes 1600m
2 Damask Rose (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the each way bet. Bob of the head was the difference between a loss and a win in the Matron, driving hard from the back when beaten a lip by Ahha Ahha, defying the pattern in defeat. Lands to stalk Treasurethe Moment and will be strong late. Good each way gamble.
8 On Display (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks suited up to the mile after resuming over 1400m two weeks ago at Flemington. It was a real up/in day so she had excuses when third to Scheelite but I actually thought she ran really well. Fitter, 1600m, back to Mares grade, she appeals.
5 Suntora (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been given a mini freshen up for Nick Ryan, her last run seeing her win over 2000m here in strong fashion. Good test here and is better suited over slightly further…maybe has eyes on the Easter Cup? Either way, she’s one for exotics.
Race 8. (16:15) William Reid Stakes 1200m
1 Jimmysstar (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the bet of the Autumn for me. There are horses who do get better with age and racing, and this guy fits that criteria. I can make a good case that if he drew well in The Everest, he could have given Ka Ying Rising an almighty scare. He made amends for that with arrogant wins in the Russell Balding and CF Orr. He’s the best sprinter we’ve got in Australia and my goodness his jumpout work has been electrifying.
2 Jigsaw (Bet Now: $SP.00) is absolutely humming for Cindy Alderson and will give Jimmy a run for his money. He was arrogant last Saturday at this track/distance, leading throughout and he gave nothing else a look in. Looks the leader once again and will take running down.
8 Magic Time (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a class mare for Grahame Begg that resumes. 1200m is on the short side for her but she is so dynamic on the fresh side and loved the way she closed off in a recent jumpout. She’ll be strong late. Just depends what start she concedes.
Race 9. (16:55) Alister Clark Stakes 2000m
1 Planet Red (Bet Now: $SP.00), all things being equal, should make an absolute mess of these. The case for him is that if drew well and was able to be as effective late, then he is every bit as good as Observer and arguably wins both the Autumn Stakes and Australian Guineas instead of running second. He has lengths on these and if 2000m is fine, then good luck beating him.
4 Dad And Dave (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. He has been given a mini freshen up since winning both the Launceston Guineas and Tasmanian Derby, finishing best and showing real staying prowess. Tick over jumpout was quiet and while he likely spots a start, he will be quite strong late.
3 Autumn Mystery (Bet Now: $SP.00) steps up to 2000m after resuming over 1400m here four weeks back. He was beaten for early speed, distance was short of his best, and he was never really a factor. Tick over jumpout was good and his best is clearly good enough to give this a shake.
Race 10. (17:35) Caspers Pies & Pastries (Bm84) 1400m
5 Porter (Bet Now: $SP.00) takes beating here after a second over this trip a few weeks back at Caulfield when leading and he gave a strong kick from the front but just felt the pinch late when run down by Harry’s Yacht. Front end control, he’ll take running down.
13 Enamorada (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a really progressive galloper who gets in really well in the weights here. Her win at Sandown showed a bit of class and this doesn’t look too strong of a race. If she can get a bit of luck from the wide barrier she will be hard to beat.
10 Taung (Bet Now: $SP.00) was a big winner at Wangaratta a few weeks ago. The margin was narrow but I say big because he was first up, over an unsuitable trip, and was there to be beaten but loved the way he dug in late when he needed to. Good upside to come, he commands respect.
