21/2/2026 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Ascot, Detonator Stakes day

A nine event meeting has been set down for Ascot this Saturday for Detonator Stakes Day. Weather is fine, track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

1 Castle Road (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has class on his side and I’ll bank on that getting him home here. He had a mixed Spring/Summer prep. He ran so well in the Placid Ark behind Luana Miss but at other times, he was quite plain. Given the break and his trial work has been very good, so keen to see how he goes.

6 Sharpassa (Bet Now:  $SP.00) placed last Wednesday at Belmont, settling off speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite get there when second. Has done little wrong in her three start career, she commands respect.

3 Swingman (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Jim Taylor trained three year old that resumes. His last run was via the Placid Ark when outclassed on paper and ran accordingly. Looked sharp in a recent trial win at Belmont so I’d say watch betting and see what it does.

Landed the way of 3 Wicked Venom (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Rhys Radford trained gelding that won last Wednesday at Belmont when back near last in the run but loved the way he closed off late behind Tycoon Harry. Likely gets back again but with a drag into the race, he takes holding out.

4 Ripper Farooq (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is on the quick back up after racing here on Sunday when on speed and he tried his guts out but just couldn’t quite see it through when second to Who’s Bent. Good racing style and he finds a race with little depth.

8 Rise To Glory (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since racing over 1100m here when off speed and was okay late but never really threatening behind Avoidance. Back to a fast run 1000m, dangerous if he’s not too far back in the run.

3 Morning Thunder (Bet Now:  $SP.00) to make a winning debut. Luke Fernie trained juvenile that has had a couple of preps, so the grounding is well and truly there. Latest piece of work was an impressive win over 1000m at Belmont. Pretty keen on his chances against these.

1 Ruthless Angel (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key chance for Dan Morton after her sharp debut win two weeks ago at this track/distance. She gave them a start and a beating, producing a very strong finale from off speed to score. Harder here, but she’s got the runs on the board.

9 Biscuits (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is six weeks between runs since a debut over 1100m here behind Man Crush when fourth. She sat near the speed and tried hard but condition just gave out late. Better for for the run and a recent tick over trial was strong. One for exotics.

5 Bohemian Diamond (Bet Now:  $SP.00) for me. Was keen on her when she resumed four weeks ago at this track/distance and she made a mess of them late, getting better as the race went on. Looks to have returned in super order and with good upside to come, she’s clearly top seed here for mine.

6 Rolling Ruler (Bet Now:  $SP.00) steps up to 1200m after racing over 1000m here a fortnight back. He got into a decent spot in transit just off speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite get there. Maps ideally again, he should be around the mark.

4 Repeater (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a talented gelding that resumes. His las run came on Aug 30 at Belmont when down the track and producing an end of prep run. He is a horse who can sprint well fresh and a recent trial was encouraging. Market and yard watch.

3 Siberian Siren (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has class on her side and I’ll bank on that class getting her home. She last raced on May 10 when an impressive winner over 1400m at Ascot. Been given a good break, has trialled well for the return, goes well fresh and does have class on her side.

7 Immortal Bliss (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one of the hardest to beat for Dan Morton. He has been given a mini freshen up since the Mungrup Sprint at Mt Barker. It was a day where up/in was dynamite, and given he was back, wide, making a sustained run, he couldn’t quite get there. Fresh legs at 1200m, he appeals.

5 Trio (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Team Williams trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since Dec 20 over 1400m here when back near last and was solid late without threatening. Likely spots them a start but should be strong at the end.

5 Lillian (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a progressive mare heading in the right direction for Michael Grantham. Loved the way she was ridden two weeks ago over 1800m here. Got the sweet sit in transit before angling wider into clear air and got better as the race went on to win well. Hard to beat against these.

3 Kimberley Rose (Bet Now:  $SP.00) commands respect after a track/distance win a fortnight back, giving them a start and a beating in an impressive performance to score. Racing in career best form and is one of the leading contenders against this lot.

1 Snazzler (Bet Now:  $SP.00) steps up to 2200m after racing over the mile three weeks back here when off speed in a slowly run race and did try hard but just couldn’t quite see it through behind Battle Commander. Like the rise in trip, he’s one for exotics.

7 Asif (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has been pretty good in two runs this time in and commands respect. He ran fourth to Fancy Red a fortnight back here, sitting off speed and was solid late despite seemingly having his chance. Hard fit, 1600m, he’s in the mix.

1 Fancy Red (Bet Now:  $SP.00) steps up to the mile after a win over 1400m here two weeks ago, getting the sweet sit in behind before angling clear and knuckled down with purpose to score. Runner up Platinum Shot won last Saturday to frank the form, so it reads well and 1600m suits.

3 Ginger Green (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance when just off speed and tried hard but just battled late behind Redback Flyer. Not sure he is good enough to win but can run first four at odds.

Despite the rise to Stakes grade, I do think 14 Soldanelle (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can measure up here. She is flying at the moment, her win two weeks ago being quite dominant, giving them a start and a beating in an impressive win. Harder here, but hard to knock the way she’s racing, and 1800m should be fine.

3 Arcadia Park (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is five weeks between runs since a placing at this track/distance when off speed and kept trying with purpose but had to settle for a third to Our Paladin Al. Good upside to come, has a touch of quality, he can take this out for sure.

12 Fly With Caution (Bet Now:  $SP.00) ran second in the Our Paladin Al race from five weeks back. He sat near the pace and I thought was going to kick back and win but he just couldn’t quite finish it off. Not sure he is good enough to win but a must for exotics.

11 Old Mate Henry (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks the straight bat play. He resumes for the Casey camp after finally putting it together towards the end of last prep with a couple of wins after a run of placings. Just one quiet trial for the return but he strikes a winnable race and will be strong late.

8 Snippety Legend (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying and has earned a crack in town. He has been dominant in recent times at Geraldton, the latest seeing him give them a start and a beating in an impressive effort. Good test here but confident he can measure up.

7 Pharoah Show (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Michael Grantham trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since Oct 11 over 1800m here when off speed and was good late without threatening. Like him fresh at 1400m and a recent trial was more than encouraging. He’ll be strong late and a win wouldn’t shock at all.

NEXT BEST: Race Three Number 3 Morning Thunder

LONG SHOT: Race Two Number 3 Wicked Venom
