A nine event meeting has been set down for Doomben on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out 2.5 metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (13:03) Racecourse Village Hcp 1050m
7 Party For Two (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is short enough but she looks the most obvious in a weak race now after scratchings. Two runs to date, both at the Sunny Coast. Ran a game third on debut before giving them an absolute spanking last time and ran good time without being fully extended. With the early toe, he should find the front and from there, I think she’ll dominate proceedings.
1 Quasimoto (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) deserves another look. On face value, he was pretty plain in the Nugget at the Gold Coast behind Royal Entrance but he was back on a day up/in was the pattern. This race has been hit hard by scratchings, so I want to give him another chance because his runs prior were good behind likely types.
4 Rothafella (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Rothesay colt on debut for Danny Bougoure. This youngster has had two trials this time in to get ready for start one, the latest coming over 900m at the Gold Coast where he seemingly moved well when third, but could have finished much closer IMO. This stable can get them ready to go with their juveniles so watch the market and see how he parades.
Race 2. (13:38) Sky Racing (Bm72) 1200m
2 Tsarina Sophia (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) should appreciate the bigger track. Class got her home fresh at Wyong before going to Canterbury on New Years Day where not much went right for her when it came to getting clear air and should have finished much closer behind Euros. Should get clear air from the outset this time around and off the first up/debut win, she can take this out.
6 Alfa Lily (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is heading in the right direction for Michael Nolan. He is on the back up after bolting up last Saturday at Ipswich over 1200m where he was a few weeks between runs but lobbed into a dream spot and really, once KWT pushed the button, she dashed and was much too good for them. The depth here, as a whole, isn’t overly strong, so she commands respect.
3 Centre Bounce (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has been well placed in recent times but is a filly in form. Dominant maiden winner two back at Ballina before proving that was no fluke with an all the way win on the home deck at Murwillumbah where she was there to be run down but found plenty under pressure. Has done a good job since heading this way and is one of the main contenders.
Race 3. (14:13) Cascade (Bm72) 1200m
I think you have to take a punt on 6 Hang Five (Bet Now:Β $SP.00), who resumes for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp. He had a two run Winter prep, where there was talk he could head to Melbourne for the Spring, but he failed to fire each time and was spelled soon after. Been given a good break, he has the runs on the board from his 2YO days and if the market is firm with him, it’s a lead that he’s ready to go.
4 Busting (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks hard to beat against this lot. Put together a couple of sharp wins on the bounce to start his career before going to the Gold Coast two weeks ago where he was given every chance by KWT and was there to win but couldn’t get past Junqueira, who looks a sharp filly, so the form does read quite well and if there is petrol left in the tank, he appeals big time.
Back to 1200m I do like for 1 Better Rain (Bet Now:Β $SP.00). He is three weeks between runs since contesting the Vo Rogue over 1350m here where he found the trip and class a bridge too far, but was far from disgraced in defeat behind Fashion Legend. 1200m is probably as far as he wants it at this level, but should land near the front and run a much improved race.
Race 4. (14:52) Brc Membership Plus (Bm78) 2020m
3 Ashgrove (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) could have run in the Subzero on Thursday but they have kept him on ice with this race in mind. He ran in The Wave last time out at the Gold Coast and kept finding the line in a really good effort, finishing a narrow second to Deficit. He’s racing like 2000m will suit and most of these are midweek/provincial class whereas he does look Saturday class. I am in his corner.
4 Green Flash (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is racing in a purple patch for Chris Waller and is one of the main contenders. He had been teasing to win a race for a while but kept letting punters down. The run of outs ended here two back when winning over the mile before a more impressive win at Eagle Farm. There has been good placement involved but with the Waller polish, 2000m should be fine.
1 Hostage Of War (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will make sure this is a proper staying contest. He led at a good clip at Ipswich last time and despite being out of petrol tickets late, he had enough in hand to win comfortably in a strong effort from the front. Not a noted city class horse, but on speed, he’ll give himself every chance and run a bold race.
Race 5. (15:32) 35 Eureka Graduates In 5Yrs-C3 1200m
3 King Kapa (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) just has to stretch his brilliance to 1200m to look the winner again. 2/2 this time in, winning with ease fresh over 1110m here before going to 1000m at Eagle Farm where he was given a peach by Maloney and in a driving go was too good for them. Yet to tick the 1200m box but I think with a soft gate, it should be fine, and he does have electric change up speed.
12 Delyth (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a promising mare for Chris Munce that resumes. She had a busy Autumn/Winter prep but did an excellent job and established herself as a Saturday class horse. Trial was good and first up at 1200m tells me she is ready to rock and roll, so I’d watch the market and see what it does with her, whether it says she’s ready to go.
11 Preach (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has done little wrong in a six start career for Team Edmonds. Led throughout and spanked them two back over 1100m at the Gold Coast before stepping up to 1200m at that track where he was near the speed again and battled on pretty well when second to Arentee. who ran super in The Gateway next start. His racing pattern is suited to Doomben and will give a stack of cheek.
Race 6. (16:12) Girls Day Out 4 March (Bm90) 1615m
Looks a perfect race for 3 Wairere Falls (Bet Now:Β $SP.00). Did more than enough fresh behind Petronius before going to the Gold Coast two weeks ago and he was very good late from the back when a close up third to surprise winner Bold Warrior. He’s a very good miler at this level and he gets to the trip for the first time. If he’s within range on the turn, he’ll take beating.
5 Indispensable (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) appears spot on to run well. Resumed with a good effort over 1200m before going back to 1000m and was good behind The Bopper. He then went to 1400m at the Gold Coast and savaged the line from near last when second Bold Warrior, beaten under a half length. Love seeing him at the mile and he can settle much closer in the run if need be. Leading contender.
Fresh legs and back to the mile can see improvement from 2 Pancho (Bet Now:Β $SP.00). He is three weeks between runs since a down the track effort in the Shoot Out here where he led at a decent clip and tired late when down the track behind Irish Playboy. Trialled up well enough to my eye last week and back in trip, his best is certainly good enough.
Race 7. (16:52) Xxxx Dry (Bm72) 1350m
6 Ayahuasca (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has to be given another chance. Tony Gollan trained mare that won like a jet first up in her first run for the new camp. She then raced three weeks ago where she was odds on and seemingly had every chance under J Kah, being quite weak late in the piece behind Fleetwood Maca. Third up now so she should be at peak fitness and off the first up win, she’ll take beating.
11 Vaccine (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has the recent form to give this a shake. She ran on Wave Day at the Gold Coast in a strong Class 4 where she got a few pairs back in the run and was good to the line when third to impressive winner and stablemate Latakia. Prior form is very strong, she maps to get a good run in transit and won’t mind a drop of rain.
1 Magnus Bellagio (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has the right form around him to give this a shake. Glenn Thornton trained gelding that was backed with confidence at odds three weeks ago at this track/distance and finished off his race with purpose, just missing out on the win when a narrow second to Fleetwood Maca. He doesn’t have the best of racing patterns but with a more positive steer, he can take this out.
Race 8. (17:32) Ladbroke It Plate (C6) 1350m
13 Tilianam (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks ready to win for Tony Gollan. Last few runs have come at 1200m, the latest coming here three weeks ago where she chased strongly in the straight when near the speed but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second to The Big Goodbye. Yet to tick the beyond 1200m box but is racing like 1350m will suit and should get a suck run from the gate. That, and the claim, it all points to her.
6 Petunia (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is flying for Kelly Schweida and should be around the mark here. She has been excellent in two runs back, winning fresh here before producing electric change up speed to win at Eagle Farm. They have been in somewhat moderate races and there is clearly more depth this time around, but it is hard to knock the way she is going at the moment.
8 Field Regiment (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and look to give himself every chance. He did three weeks back at this track/distance and gave such a bold sight but couldn’t quite finish it off, but was able to cling on for third to Fleetwood Maca. I reckon the end of 1350m is the acid for him but if he finds the front and gets some level of control, he’ll make sure they have something to chase.
Race 9. (18:12) Gallopers Sports Club (Bm85) 1110m
8 Orbisyn (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a jump/run type it appears so back to 1110m looks a big tick. Three weeks between runs since racing over 1200m here where he attempted to lead throughout and gave a strong kick but six furlongs at this level just found him out when third to The Big Goodbye. He was five weeks between runs there so 1110m on speed look ideal and he’ll take catching.
7 Majestic Shot (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a quality mare for Grant Allard that has a touch of class on her side. She has been kept on ice since Dec 12 at Eagle Farm when a definite pass mark behind Palladas when wide for the trip against the pattern. Tick over trial was pretty good at Deagon and with better luck in running, I think she has the quality to take this out.
9 Acrobatic (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Kelly Schweida trained gelding that resumes. He hasn’t raced since October 5 at Ipswich when a narrow but strong winner over 1200m in what has turned out to be a good form race. Not a noted fresh horse but while some of these will get the staggers late, he’ll be strong at the end. Certainly a winning threat.
