Adam Page gives us his runner by runner preview for tomorrow’s VRC Sires Stakes at Flemington racecourse, view his analysis, tips and selections.
1. Masthead
Was a huge run in the Blue Diamond. He got a long way back, was pushed very wide on the home turn and made up a stack of ground to finish third behind Sepoy. He is the one to beat on form.
2. Delago’s Lad
Another that finished off well in the Blue Diamond. He finished sixth after being run off his legs early so the 1400m should suit him perfectly. A definite threat.
3. Helmet
Two runs this time in for two very good wins at Rosehill. Plenty to like about this colt and I think that the fact Snowden has sent him to Melbourne tells me that this horse will be very hard to hold out.
4. Grand Britannia
Another eye-catcher from the Blue Diamond. Got checked several times in the run and did well to finish as close as he did. He has talent, but there may be a couple others that can put forward a stronger case than him.
5. Rockshaft
Toughed it out for a narrow but gutsy win in the Breeders Stakes in Adelaide. Not sure about the depth of form in that race and he did have a very good run sitting outside the speed. I’m prepared to leave him out.
6. Running Tall
Couldn’t keep up with the hot tempo in the Blue Diamond. Had a soft run behind the leaders but when the sprint went on he was left behind. The 1400m looks ideal and trained on the track by Danny O’Brien. He looks an e/w chance.
7. Cash For Matt
Plenty to like about his first up run behind Anevay. Got a fair way back in the run but really attacked the line to finish second. He is still a maiden but I give him a strong chance.
8. Covered In Class
Won like a superstar on debut but three subsequent starts he has failed to flatter. He was ok when third in the same race as mentioned above but the 1400m will test and the wide barrier is no help. Don’t think she can feature.
9. Minute By Minute
A maiden from the Hayes yard. Didn’t mind his run at Ballarat when closing off well from the back. Not sure he is up to these but if the pace is on, look for him late.
10. Dericles
Was ok without being spectacular last Saturday behind Golden Archer. Another O’Brien runner, stepping up to 1400m will be a plus and from the handy barrier he can finish in the first four with the right run.
11. Isopach
Was dreadful on debut so he was sent for a spell and was gelded during that time. Ran at Morphettville first up and was solid without threatening. Happy to pass.
Selections (Not in order): 1 Masthead, 2 Delago’s Lad, 3 Helmet, 6 Running Tall
