New writer for JustHorseRacing.com.au ‘Adam Page’ shares his tips and selections for tomorrow’s Super Saturday at Flemington Racecourse with the headline race being the 2010 Victoria Derby.
Race One: I was impressed by the way Mr Chard attacked the line last start when beating home Skilled. He
meets that horse 1.5kg worse at the weights from last start but I am more confident about Mr Chard running
a stronger 1600m than I am with Skilled. Williams should have him in the perfect spot from barrier three and
the rain forecast only enhances his prospects. Dangers are Skilled, Goldstone and Jalash.
Race Two: Forgive and forget Once Were Wild’s run in the Geelong Cup. She was travelling big time but
upon straightening she got checked severely and made no impression after that. The bigger surroundings of
Flemington will suit her and I think that she and stablemate Herculian Prince can dominate the race from the
front and that suits Once Were Wild more so than Herculian Prince. Dangers are Herculian Prince, Linton
and Moudre.
Race Three: There is one I like her at really good odds and that is Wave Dancing. I liked her maiden win
three starts back then came from last to finish fourth behind Ilovethiscity at Newcastle then was never a
hope at Randwick in a leader-dominated race. She’ll drift back from barrier five but there appears to be good
speed in the race and she has placed on a slow track and trainer Anthony Cummings doesn’t bring them to
Victoria unless he thinks they can perform. Dangers are Dizlago, Brazilian Pulse, and Zutara.
Race Four: General Truce is an iron-horse. He doesn’t know how to run a bad race. Ran a good race
behind Set For Fame last start when battling away strongly after trailing the speed. Down the straight six,
Yendall will have him near the speed and he’ll give a great sight at odds. He nearly won the Danehill but
was grabbed on the line by two very good horses in Soul and Buffering. They are dangers as well as The
Ruffian.
Race Five: No speed at all here. So You Think and Descerado will dominate from the front and I am going
with the Caulfield Cup winner. Obviously blowing the cobwebs out for Tuesday but there is no reason
why he can’t win here. Huge effort to win last start and he is a very tough horse, as you’d expect being a
Waterhouse runner. He might just have too much for So You Think, who looked like a tired horse on the line.
Dangers are Shocking, Shoot Out and Faint Perfume.
Race Six: Forget Smokin’ Joey went around last week. He choked down so the blinkers are off and the
Tongue Tie is on. Form prior to that was very good and he looks like a 2500m horse. Due to that run
last week, his price has blown out to $12, which I’ll take. Dangers are Retrieve, Rekindled Interest and
Shootoff.
Race Seven: Very keen on Culminate beating Typhoon Tracy here. If the rain falls, Typhoon Tracy is
vulnerable and that sets up the race for Culminate. Wonderful ride by Michael Walker to get the mare home
last start and she’ll be cherry ripe for this. Third up over a mile on a heavy track… she ticks all the boxes for
me. Dangers are Typhoon Tracy, No Evidence Needed and Yosei.
Race Eight: Beaded is a lovely mare. Hasn’t raced since the Winter Stakes at Eagle Farm but the Darley
team will have her primed for a first up win. McEvoy has plenty of options from barrier six and the $13 on
offer is very good considering she has form around some very good horses eg Melito and Hot Danish.
Expect her to be hitting the line hard and she can handle rain affected going. Dangers are Black Piranha,
Catapulted and Eagle Falls.
Race Nine: Jungle Ruler gives 110% every start. Grabbed right on the line on Caulfield Cup day by
Rothera and Sniper’s Bullet. He’ll press forward here and get a cart over from Poor Judge. If the rain comes
down, he’ll be the last one standing as he loves to put the flippers on. Dangers are Dao Dao, McClintock
and Demerit.
BEST BET: RACE SEVEN 3 CULMINATE
NEXT BEST: RACE NINE 4 JUNGLE RULER
VALUE: RACE THREE 17 WAVE DANCING
BIG 6 (RACES 4-9)
